Last Weekend, I met up with Chelsea and David at the Oldfield Plantation for their e-session. Oldfield is a picture perfect location with trails lined with live oak, rustic buildings and docks overlooking the marshes. Their session was unique because it was casual and candid and they found ways to incorporate a few of David’s favorite sports into it. Chelsea later explained that David actually proposed to her on a fishing dock at his family’s lake house, so the couple thought it would make their session more personal with a few fishing photos. They enjoy spending a lot of time outdoors and Oldfield definitely offers that. Chelsea later described how David proposed, “The sun was setting and David ended up catching a fish right before he asked, taking it as a sign of good luck, but, I would’ve said yes even if he didn’t catch one!”

I can’t wait to for this Fall to photograph Chelsea & David’s October wedding. I know its going to be just as amazing as they are!

How did you meet? We met in the Navy two years ago. He’s from Simpsonville, SC and I’m from Grafton, Massachusetts. He’s retired from the military, going to school and I’m finishing my obligation to the Navy.

What made you decide on Oldfield Plantation for your engagement session? What gave you the idea to have a more causal session and to include activities like fishing and golfing? Oldfield is where we are having our ceremony and we wanted to contrast casual with elegant, plus there are so many locations at Oldfield to take pictures, we wouldn’t have time on the wedding day to go to all of the places. We’re a really laid back couple and wanted to take photos doing things we enjoy and again contrast them to the elegance of the wedding day, so not all our pictures are formal.

What do you like most about the Bluffton area? What are some of your favorite places to visit while here? David golfs a lot so he enjoys the diverse golf courses around the  area, and I will hopefully get to enjoy the beaches next time I visit.
We love the Beaufort area, which was going to be our original wedding location but decided on Oldfield instead.

Spring is a great time to visit Wormsloe Plantation and its one of the most beautiful locations in Savannah for an enagement session or a wedding. I met up with Anna and Brad last weekend for engagement photos. We began with portraits at the front gate and then visited various sections of the park. Brad currently lives in Florida where he is a Captain in the US Air Force and Anna lives in New York City as a financial services consultant. It was nice to spend time photographing this couple as they enjoyed their time together.  The couple will be getting married in November near Anna’s hometown of Pasadena, California. Next summer, they’ll be moving to the same city to be together.

How Did you meet?  Our story began in Beavercreek, a quiet town in southern Ohio.  We were both military officers on our first assignment at Wright Patterson AFB.  We met through a mutual friend, and if you asked us then we would have never believed that we would eventually get married! Being a joint military couple, we knew challenges lay ahead.  The reality of having two diverging careers and two different sets of ambitions forced us to evaluate how much we were committed to each other, because the road ahead was not going to be easy.  Fast forward to today: four years of long distance dating in 5 different states and through major career transitions for both of us!   Looking back, I can’t believe we made it work (it sure wasn’t easy!) but that journey will prepare us well for marriage. I feel so incredibly to blessed to have Brad in my life, I never imagined I could love and be loved this much.

What made you decide on Savannah for you engagement session? Savannah was love at first site.  With me living in Manhattan and Brad living in coastal Florida, we had many great options for where to do our engagement shoot: Central Park, New York’s majestic libraries, the beach, on a boat… but there is nothing quite like Savannah.  All at once rustic, romantic, and elegant, it is a city that looks as if time itself stood still to admire her beauty: Spanish moss framing cobblestone paths, plantation houses still boasting their antebellum prime, and majestic oaks watching over lazy rivers and grasslands.

What do you like most about Savannah? It always feels like Sunday morning – beautiful yet relaxed, put on your Sunday’s best to spend the day with family, friends, and good food!

It was equally for important  Ramya and Doug to have both a traditional and modern wedding. During the week, they had a traditional Hindu Wedding Ceremony in Atlanta. For their second wedding ceremony, Ramya and Doug chose the King & Prince Resort  located on St. Simon’s Island in Georgia. We met  everyone for getting ready photos at the King and Prince Cottages. The ceremony was officiated by Doug’s college roommate Will and had several unique elements. First, the couple drank water that Ramya’s Mother acquired after traveling to the Himalayas to the visit the original source of the Ganges River. Guests also threw blessing stones in the ocean.  Afterwards everyone enjoyed cocktails on an open terrace that overlooked the ocean. We then moved upstairs for the reception in the hotel’s Retreat Room Ballroom which has rounded windows with a breathtaking 180 degree view of the ocean and an antique bar and fireplace. Dinner included a culinary treats of authentic Indian cuisine. Guests enjoyed a wonderful night of dancing with the fabulous DJ Tina’s Music for All Occassions. Ramya was stunning in her Maggie Sotero gown which had three versatile looks and changed form as the night went on. Everything about this wedding was amazing and we enjoyed our time with this couple.

How did you meet?
We met while going to school at Georgia Tech in Atlanta.

What made you decide on the King and Prince for your wedding?

We wanted to get married on St Simons Island and the King and Prince was perfect, being located right by the water. It was built in 1941 and it has a quiant and historic feel to it.

Approximate planning time for wedding:

where did you get inspiration/ideas for the colors and unique accessories? Especially the rock throwing and drinking of the water for the ceremony! We also liked the bell ringing… The “blessing stone ceremony” was something my Mom came up with. She read somewhere about a Reverend in a Churchwho practiced this and when she saw it she thought it was very touching and a special way for family and friends to express their good wishes … not to mention, it’s a fun break in the ceremony to get up, walk to the water front and throw the stones in the water, chat a little …

My Mom did a 3 week trek up in the Himalayas before coming here to help us with the wedding planning. She went with a bunch of her cousins – they’ve been talking about doing it for several years and it finally happened this year. She brought water from the very source of the Ganges river, which is one of the spots they hiked up to. In the Hindu tradition, if you have water from the source of the river it is used as part of auspicious ceremonies or weddings. We wanted to have a meaningful ceremony that blended Hindu and Christian philosophies/customs and we did this by Biblical verses having Doug’s Father read some Biblical verses and Doug and I by drinking of the water. Will also taked about the meaning of friendship in a marriage as described in the Vedas (Hindu scriptures)

My Mom and I are both a fan of bells. She actually collects them, so we had to have bells in the wedding

Any planning advice for other couples? When you begin planning you have a set of idea and it changes as time goes on. Just remember that it’s your day and make plan your wedding in a way that will make the two of you happy. And definitely get a wedding planner!! We started doing everything on our own and about 6-7 weeks in realized that we could not do it without help, especially since our ceremony was on the beach.. Doug’s college friend and dorm room-mate (he isn’t really a Minister, he majored in Religious studies with a minor in computer engineering)

What do you like most about the St. Simons area?

The beautiful and serene beaches.

What are some local things you recommend to guests/others? Coastal kitchen was great, where we had our rehearsal dinner.  Definitely enjoy the beach as much as you can! I got only 3 hours of sleep the night before the wedding but we all spent an hour or two on the beach that morning just playing in the water, running around and that made me feel relaxed and more energized.

Honeymoon or Future Plans? We’re visiting India and Europe in the Spring
