I just love the natural light at Wormsloe. Its an amazing experience every time I do photography there. Alexandra and I emailed for a while before the couple selected Wormsloe Plantation as the location for their Engagement Portraits.  Michael is an officer and is stationed at a nearby military base and Savannah is the perfect little getaway location for this engaged couple who lives miles apart for the time being. Alexandra and Michael are perfect together and  it was amazing to meet them and to spend this session capturing their love.

Tell us about yourselves. We met when I was a Freshman and Michael was a Sophomore at St. John’s University. We were both at the local college bar, Traditions, anden I went up to Michael and said, “You’re cute!” The rest is history and we’ve now been together for more than 5 years.

I am originally from Troy, NY and I now live in Queens, NY. I work in Human Resources at a financial company in Manhattan. Michael is originally from West Islip, NY and he now lives in Savannah, GA. He is an Infantry Officer in the United States Army. What Hobbies do you enjoy together?  Michael and I don’t get to spend a lot of time together, since I live in New York and he lives in Georgia, but when we are together we like to drink margaritas, go mini-golfing, and catch up on Impractical Jokers, our favorite tv show.

Plans for wedding location? We are planning on getting married in 2018, when Michael is out of the Army. We’d like to get married in Saratoga, NY, which is near my hometown.

What made you select Wormsloe as the location for your Engagement session? Our Engagement Photographer, Nikki, recommended Wormsloe as one possible location for engagement portraits. When we saw pictures, we absolutely fell in love. Our favorite thing about the location was all the trees with the Spanish moss. It was a perfect day to take pictures and we left feeling so happy that we chose Wormsloe.   What do you like most about Savannah? How does it compare to other places that you have lived/visited? The thing I love most about Savannah are the trees with the Spanish moss. They are so beautiful to me and when I first visited, I fell in love, so we had to have the pictures taken at Wormsloe!

What is your favorite place/activity here?  We’ve visited Savannah quite a lot since Michael has moved there, so we have done many things around town. Our favorite thing to do is go on the haunted tours. We also love learning about all of Savannah’s history. After our engagement portraits, we went to our favorite restaurant, Tequila Town. Two of my friends came to Savannah with me that weekend, so they met us there along with Michael’s roommates. It was a great last day in Savannah. It is one of our favorite places to dine in Savannah. Michael and I also really enjoy Savannah’s open container policy. Its very different from New York!

Favorite local places to dine or shop? We also love Clary’s Café for breakfast. That weekend we also went on a haunted pub crawl with our friends. Michael and I have done one before, so it was really fun to bring our friends this time!

Tell us about yourselves. How did you meet? We met in college. Both of us came from out of state to Austin, Texas for school. Rayce was a music major and played at almost every school function. I probably got caught starring at him a few too many times and one night he approached me after playing.

How did you choose your dress for the session? My gold dress is by Gianni Bini which I bought at Dillard’s totally as a last minute outfit for pictures. Neither of us actually knew what to wear and Rayce forgot his belt and tie that he was suppose to wear for those photos. But I couldn’t be more happy with the way they all turned out.

Tell us about your ring!!! SO unique and pretty!  My ring is so special and I had no idea Rayce was going to do the sapphire. I had mentioned to him before that I had wanted a unique ring and I’m so glad he remembered. The sapphire represents both of our birthstones and its also the month that we met. It probably would have been the month he proposed but being military we never really know till the last minute when we will get to see each other again ( and August was close enough).

Plans for wedding location? Our wedding is in May and will be in New York. We could not be more excited!

What made you select the Northern end of Tybee Beach as the location for your Engagement session? What did you like the most about the location?  I chose the north side mostly because of the lighthouse. Once there I was so excited at all the possiblities and the rather empty beaches. It was completely perfect.

It was another beautiful morning here in Savannah. For this engagement session, I met Meaghan and Chris on Jones Street. August can be so hot and humid here. It was definitely warm, but we were so lucky that there was a nice breeze which made it another amazing day for portraits!  We spent the entire morning just walking around, taking photos and enjoying Jones Street. The street is in the heart of Savannah’s historic district and is filled charming homes, lush city gardens and boutiques. It was great to spend time getting to know Meaghan and Chris and to photo journal their trip to Savannah and the beginning of their life together. They had so much fun exploring the area, taking in the scenery and mostly just spending time together and being in love.  I’m so excited for them and know they are going to have so much fun planning their wedding! Congratulations!!!

Meaghan is originally from a suburb of Charlotte, NC but grew up in Bucks County, PA. Chris is a Raleigh native. Growing up, I was always counting down the days until I could get back to the south, and I ended up at Clemson for college. Chris attended UNC Charlotte, and we crossed paths during my freshman and his junior year of college. He’s an engineer, and I have a degree in Equine Business. After Chris graduated and moved to St. Louis for his job, we were long distance for almost 2 years while I finished school and had several internships in Dallas. It was hard, but so worth it! He proposed in the most incredible, special way this past June at a Thoroughbred horse farm in Kentucky. We celebrated with my family at Churchill Downs the next day! In his own words, he wanted to surround me with my first love when he asked to be my second. We’ll call it a tie!

We enjoy exploring River Street and City Market in Savannah. We never pass up the peach sangria from the Cafe and Byrd’s cookies always find their way back home! Chris’s favorite is the Georgia peach, but I love the benne wafers and red velvet. A friend recently introduced us to Rocks on the Roof, a fun rooftop bar in the Bohemian Hotel with amazing views of the harbor. In Hilton Head, we’re pretty much beach bums and stay by the water for the most part. Coligny Plaza and Harbour Town are fun for shopping and have great ice cream! We also love the Skull Creek Boathouse for dinner. Anything outside with live music and delicious seafood is perfect for us!

For our outfits, we just wanted to feel like ourselves, as if we were going to any party. We would totally wear something like that on a regular basis. And, of course, it had to be cool enough for humid August weather. In my opinion, my seersucker dress was the perfect choice because it’s so light and breathable. As far as colors, we wanted to coordinate but not match too extensively. My dress had blue and pink in it, so I just told Chris to pick a shirt in one of those colors! Chris wore Southern Tide and Sperrys. My dress was from Lilly Pulitzer, and my shoes were from DSW. They’re my favorites! My amazing earrings were a gift from my mom.

We LOVE the Lowcountry! This was our second time visiting Savannah and Hilton Head together, but my family has been many times over the years. We took a day trip to Savannah with my sister last year, so when my family decided to come back to the beach at Hilton Head this summer, we figured it was the perfect spot for engagement photos! For us, there’s nothing more perfect and comforting than the history, Southern hospitality, and beauty of the area.

I met Codee & Nigel for their Engagement Session at Wormsloe. Nigel is the Army and stationed in the Savannah area and Codee was visiting, so they decided to have their engagement session here, before she returned  to Colorado. This couple sought very natural settings for their photos so we spent the morning hiking on the Wormsloe Plantation trails and just exploring the property together. We had a fun time and discovered several new areas of the park for portrait locations! I’m thankful for my time with all of our military couples. Many of them don’t get to see each other every day, or they’re taking the photos knowing that they are going to be separated for a long duration, so the photo sessions are always an extra special time. After their Fall wedding in Colorado, Codee will relocate to Savannah. They’re looking forward to making a home here  in Savannah and I could not be happier for them!

About Codee & Nigel:

I was born and raised in a small town called Wiggins in Colorado.  Nigel is from Columbus Kansas. We met at college at the small campus located in Rangely, Colorado. Its so small, the closest Walmart was an hour away! I attended there for the dental hygiene program and Nigel was there for Aviation. I became friends with most of the students in his class and I met him through them. The funny thing is we didn’t really hang out much until that summer. There were maybe 10 students total on campus taking classes and because of that, we all became friends.

We are both really outdoorsy. We like camping, hiking, fishing and shooting. We like trying out new restaurant s too!

Our wedding is going to be in Colorado and laid back. I’m planning on wearing boots with my dress! It will be an intimate get together at my home town church. My future hubby, family, friends…. what more could we need! I’m excited to move into the warmth and the rain in Savannah. Its definitely going to be a change from Colorado. I wont miss snow but I will miss my family, the small town atmosphere, wide open skies, and going to the mountains. I cannot wait to start out life in Savannah with the man I love. It will be an amazing experience for us both!

Three Colleges One Cause was over at the Forsyth Park Band Shelter hosting an event benefitting The Wounded Warrior Project. They had several great bands with some amazing live performances that set the mood for our session. This couple is so smitten and it really shows in their photos. AND I can’t think of anything more romantic than sitting on Savannah’s famous “love limb” (as I like to call it) while an acoustic cover of Dave Mathews-Crash plays in the background.  I had a great time with this couple and we even snapped a few special photos for their save the date cards. We did two different  versions for those portraits, each with different days and those images will not be revealed until the couple finalizes the plans for their wedding date! I can’t wait to find out which day they select.

I am so excited to share this next Session. Since we posted the last proposal, we have been getting a lot of requests to do more. There’s nothing better than being involved in a well orchestrated plan! For this proposal, Lee got in touch with me and explained that he had he planned to propose in Savannah at the Forsyth Fountain.  Lee pilots his own  plane and had told Juleah they were flying in from NY for a destination date to explore Savannah…He went onto explain that Juleah would think it was not too out of the ordinary, since the couple has taken a trips to St. Augustine, but instead they would be visiting Savannah for this “special date.” On the day of  the proposal, Lee and I texted back and forth so that I knew if the plane was on time and if the plan was going according to schedule.  We even had a back up location in case of rain because there was supposed to be a storm that evening. Lee was doing this rain or shine and didn’t even seem to mind that the proposal (and flying) was on Friday the thirteenth! (I guess its safe to say he isn’t as superstitious as I am!)  Upon their safe arrival, the couple went out for an early dinner then a carriage tour which ended at the Forsyth Park Promenade. Everything was meticulously planned down to the last second, giving me just enough time to pace out where I was shooting and to set up. As they made their way up to our designated location, I pretended to be a tourist taking photos so that I could snap a few shots before the proposal actually happened. The proposal worked out perfectly–Juleah said “Yes” and even the torrential downpour which was supposed to happen held of just long enough for us to finsh the session! It turned out to be an amazing evening for all.

How did you meet? On Valentine’s Weekend of February this year, I volunteered as a chaperone for a retreat with the High school group at my church. Annette (the other chaperone) and I were responsible for a group of 11th grade girls. On Saturday, our group was supposed to participate in a scavenger hunt around town. Annette suggested that we drop by a friend of her’s house to try to pick up some items. Her friend was Lee 🙂 We met that day, Annette and I attended a wedding that night (where I caught the bouquet!!!), and the next day Lee called me and asked me on a date for the following week. A month later he asked me to be his girlfriend…. and 7 months later, here we are!

Did you have any idea the proposal was going to happen? What did you think when Lee had told you about all of the planning that went into it? I was shocked! Lee and I had talked about marriage and knew that was what we both wanted, but I didn’t expect a proposal while in Savannah. I was so, so happy. When I heard about how much work and thought he had put into it, I was touched. It was the sweetest and most thoughtful thing anyone has ever done for me.  I think we’d definitely love to return to Savannah in the future. It’s such a beautiful city and we both really enjoyed it. I think our top 2 favorite places as of now would be Savannah and St. Augustine.

For their second session, Edith and Justin chose a sunrise session at Tybee beach. Justin is in the Navy, so it was important for the couple to have photos at the beach too. We decided to shoot over by the Tybee Pier and Pavilion area since the beach would be quiet that early in the morning. The sunrise was beautiful and I really enjoyed my time with this couple!

What made you decide on Tybee Island for a Sunrise Beach Portrait Session? Justin loves water, the beach and nature; I got to pick the first location to do  our session and he did not hesitate on suggesting having a second session in Tybee, he is in the Navy and most of his time he spends it around water so he thought it would be a perfect way to show the places we like and enjoy.

What do you like most about Savannah area? What are some of your favorite things to do and places to visit that you recommend to others? Would you visit the area again? Savannah is one of our favorite cities, and now is even more special to us since it was the first time we visited Savannah together and we officially got engaged at. Being one of the most haunted cities in the US Savannah is so mysterious, but charming and romantic at the same time all the beautiful well-kept city squares and old trees with spanish moss, it all looks like is something out of a movie, this city has character to spare. One of the things we love the most is that history is appreciated and even celebrated in Savannah, we also enjoyed our ghost tour and our night walks in River Street, and we cannot express with words our love for the food, Justin enjoyed one place in particular; the Savannah Sweets shop, he has a very sweet tooth and quickly felt in love with all the delicious homemade candies they have in the shop. We are definitely coming back; we are planning on making it a tradition to come back to the place we officially got engaged at and enjoy more of Savannah for years to come. Nothing beats our “official proposal”, we could not be any more pleased on how things turn out for us, the city and location were perfect.

Accommodations while staying in Savannah? We stayed at The Inn at Ellis Square in the Historic District and we were extremely pleased; the front desk staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. Our room was on the 7th floor with an incredible view that we both loved. The location was perfect, you are right in the middle of historic downtown, steps away from restaurants, water and all the entertainment from River Street and City Market.

Spring is a great time to visit Wormsloe Plantation and its one of the most beautiful locations in Savannah for an enagement session or a wedding. I met up with Anna and Brad last weekend for engagement photos. We began with portraits at the front gate and then visited various sections of the park. Brad currently lives in Florida where he is a Captain in the US Air Force and Anna lives in New York City as a financial services consultant. It was nice to spend time photographing this couple as they enjoyed their time together.  The couple will be getting married in November near Anna’s hometown of Pasadena, California. Next summer, they’ll be moving to the same city to be together.

How Did you meet?  Our story began in Beavercreek, a quiet town in southern Ohio.  We were both military officers on our first assignment at Wright Patterson AFB.  We met through a mutual friend, and if you asked us then we would have never believed that we would eventually get married! Being a joint military couple, we knew challenges lay ahead.  The reality of having two diverging careers and two different sets of ambitions forced us to evaluate how much we were committed to each other, because the road ahead was not going to be easy.  Fast forward to today: four years of long distance dating in 5 different states and through major career transitions for both of us!   Looking back, I can’t believe we made it work (it sure wasn’t easy!) but that journey will prepare us well for marriage. I feel so incredibly to blessed to have Brad in my life, I never imagined I could love and be loved this much.

What made you decide on Savannah for you engagement session? Savannah was love at first site.  With me living in Manhattan and Brad living in coastal Florida, we had many great options for where to do our engagement shoot: Central Park, New York’s majestic libraries, the beach, on a boat… but there is nothing quite like Savannah.  All at once rustic, romantic, and elegant, it is a city that looks as if time itself stood still to admire her beauty: Spanish moss framing cobblestone paths, plantation houses still boasting their antebellum prime, and majestic oaks watching over lazy rivers and grasslands.

What do you like most about Savannah? It always feels like Sunday morning – beautiful yet relaxed, put on your Sunday’s best to spend the day with family, friends, and good food!

Akida and Rashad chose Bonaventure Cemetery as the location for their engagment session. Both history buffs fell in love with the timeless beauty of Bonaventure and visit it whenever they travel to Savannah. Rashad has been stationed in Jacksonville and just returned to his military base after completing deployment in Iraq. The couple decided that Savannah would be a perfect place for some much needed together time. Even though it is cemetery, they were certain that Bonaventure would prove to be an amazing place for portraits. Its not only cemetery but more like an outdoor art museum with beautiful sculptures, statues and majestic oaks.
