We have loved each and every wedding at Oldfield Plantation. Just had to share this gorgeous sunset wedding. The bride, Janel was radiant in her blush tone wedding gown. Janel & Austin said their wedding vows in a romantic ceremony as the sun set behind them. The backdrop and warm colors that we captured as the sun set were amazing and I loved the blue accents in the wedding party attire. The Oldfield Plantation River Club is a private location for weddings and its always a treat to go there!

On the blog today we have Tasha & Brandon’s beautiful Wedding. Both the bride and groom are from Minnesota and flew into Savannah along with their family and friends to celebrate their intimate destination wedding. The wedding ceremony which was officiated by Reverend Schulte, took place in the Forsyth Garden. Afterwards the ceremony, there was a champagne toast on the balcony of the charming Forsyth Inn, which overlooks Forsyth Park. The couple and their guests had rented the Inn for the wedding. We then took a group portrait and photos of the bride, groom, family and friends at the Forsyth Inn, The Forsyth Park Fountain and we also traveled to Monterey Square. After portraits commenced, the couple and their guests then took a carriage ride throughout historic Savannah before going to their wedding reception. They celebrated with a reception dinner at The Olde Pink House, located in Reynold’s Square.

Ima & Jason live in Atlanta and came to Savannah to wed at The Unitarian Church in Troup Square. Ima got ready at the Westin on Bay St and Jason got ready at The Hamilton-Turner House in Historic Savannah. We did Bridal Portraits for Ima in Lafayette Square and Portraits of Jason in the Hamliton-Turner House which is a local Inn on Lafayette Square that was recently renovated. It is a gorgeous space with vibrant colors and plenty of windows to let in natural light.  The couple then had a first look in Lafayette Square which was where we also decided to do some pre-wedding portraits with their immediate family. Afterwards, the couple walked to their church for their ceremony witnessed by their friends, family and bridal party. After the Ceremony, the couple took more photos with extended family in Troup Square. It was a beautiful day for a wedding in downtown Savannah for this couple who is so much in love. Ima is a make up artist and model in Atlanta where she and Jason live. Jason’s family has a home in Hilton Head, so many came from South Carolina and local areas to attend the wedding. Ima’s family lives in Atlanta and some members of her family even traveled from as far as Persia to attend the wedding weekend in Savannah and their wedding reception at The Westin.

Quinney Oaks Plantation in Millen, Georgia was the beautiful venue for the wedding of Elizabeth and Mark. The plantation itself is not very far from Savannah and is situated on a sprawling hillside, surrounded by an apple orchard and beautiful gardens. Elizabeth and Mark were an amazing couple to work with and are so perfect together. The entire month of March and April seems to have had so much more rain than usual and this wedding was almost delayed due to the weather. This decisive couple decided to move forward and the weather ended up cooperating. It turned out to be a wonderful day for a Southern Wedding! The outdoor garden ceremony was officiated by a close family friend and part of the ceremony included a bible signing. Afterwards, the couple celebrated their wedding day with over  300 guests. A cocktail hour was then followed by dinner, dancing with a live band and several toasts by family and members of the wedding party. It was truly an honor to meet and to work with this lovely local family from the Savannah-Pooler area!

I had gone to visit Mark for the weekend in Waynesboro, GA and it was a really cold weekend. They had called for snow, but we all thought there was no way that was going to happen in South Georgia. Little did we know that when we woke up the next morning we would wake up to snow covered all over the ground and cars. Mark surprised me by having his brother and sister in law run outside and write “Will you Marry me?” on the back windshield of my car. I was still inside trying to make coffee when Marks brother Chad came running in the house and said OMG Elizabeth a huge tree limb feel on your car and messed it up come outside and look. I was still not even thinking about what was going on…and when I walked outside there wasn’t a limb on top of my car instead there was Mark on one knee next to my car with my ring in one hand and a coffee cup that said Future Mrs. Smith on it. IT was a magical day that I will never forget.

What were the deciding factors for you Ceremony and reception location? I had never wanted to get married in a church and had always wanted an outside wedding.

Where did you get the inspiration/ideas for the details? I knew I did not want a white dress…I wanted an ivory dress. My dress actually is a Merlot color (according to the tag) I loved my dress. I purchased it from J ’adore Bridal in Brooklet, GA. I had seen on Pinterest a board of pinks and greens and feel in love with the color scheme so I decided to use that.Mr. Bill Lively is a close family friend of Mark’s family and we thought it was perfect asking him to marry us since he has seen mine and Marks relationship grow.

What made you select Quinney Oaks Plantation as your Venue? Quinney Oaks is actually owned by a friend of Mark’s from when he was growing up. Coincidentally, the owner is also a sorority sister of mine. She had advertised her parents home on Facebook and I fell in love with the plantation home and venue immediately. Mark had already been to the house several times growing up and loved it as well. It is also close Waynesboro, GA,  where Mark and I will be calling home.

Any advice to other couples who are in the process of planning their wedding? ALWAYS have a plan B if it calls for RAIN!!!

Jake and I met 7 years ago at work in Boston (Pioneer Investments). It was our first job out of college and we were working in their customer service department, so we bonded over how awful our job was. We’re both from the Boston area and work in the financial services industry. We have a cat named Penny and we live together in Salem Mass. We enjoy going out to dinner, going to the movies, traveling, golfing and just relaxing at home.

Jake, tell us about your proposal: Casey’s family rented a house on Block Island for a week in July 2014. It was the two of us, Casey’s parents, and her two sisters with their (now) husbands. I was the last one to pop the question so it took some effort to make it a surprise. I was lucky enough to drive down with Casey’s parents and was able to ask both for their permission and have a good long talk about the importance of marriage and what they would do to me if I screwed it up (no pressure). I got the ring the night before and left it with Casey’s sister’s husband Mike to avoid getting discovered. I spent the first part of the week scouting out locations, and finally found the perfect secluded spot on the bluffs overlooking the ocean. Her whole family was a great help in disguising my plan, so I was able to get some champagne, orange juice and ice into the car and asked Casey if she wanted to go for an early morning drive to get breakfast. Before we got to breakfast I pulled over to the previously scouted spot on the side of the road and got out. I proposed to her at the top of the look point point at the bluffs and it was a really special moment. It was a great opportunity to get even closer as a family because everyone was involved, and I’ll forever be appreciative of everyone’s help in making that day so special.

What were the deciding factors for you Ceremony location of the Fountain? We wanted to be able to show our wedding guests all of the different aspects of what Savannah has to offer and we thought that the fountain would be such a beautiful backdrop for our ceremony. We also loved everything about the Mansion and having our reception in such close proximity made perfect sense.

Tell us about your Wedding official. Our wedding officiant’s name is Steve Clough and he is one of Jake’s cousins. When trying to find an officiant, we decided that we wanted to make the ceremony more personal by asking someone who knew us both well. Steve is very well spoken, has a great sense of humor and we thought he would be the perfect choice. Luckily, he made us look good!

Casey, Where did you get the inspiration/ideas for the details? Your colors, champagne tone for wedding gown? Accents, Decor, Details? My sisters Rory and Grace and my mom were all extremely helpful when I was planning my wedding so I really got most of my inspiration from them. My Dad also had a great idea to give out copies of Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil to the wedding guests as a memento of Savannah so the entire planning of the wedding was really a family effort. My mom specifically has an incredible eye for all of the small details that made the ballroom look so stunning, like chairs, uplighting, chargers and table cloths. With regard to the dress, my sister Rory actually found it hanging in the bridal salon and brought it over to me, and said I think that you should try this one on. Once I tried it on, we all thought that it was just so stunning and that it would look perfect in Savannah.

What made you select Savannah and the & Forsyth Mansion for your Venue? We had visited Savannah only once before we decided to get married there, but when we had travelled there, we really fell in love with the city. We loved how romantic it felt, how nice and authentic the people that live there are, and we thought it would be a really exciting place for our guests to travel to. Savannah is a place that everybody wants to go, but we were surprised at how few of our guests had ever been. Our guests had such a great time and were so appreciative of the experience.

Any advice to other couples who are in the process of planning their wedding? I would say that, although it’s easy for me to say this now, try not to sweat the small things. There are always things that aren’t going to go exactly as you’ve planned, but at the end of the day, all that matters is that you’re surrounded by people who love you and you will still have the best day of your life, regardless of whether things don’t work out perfectly.

Please List Any Activities or places your guests visited/enjoyed during the week of your event: Welcome Party the night before the wedding at B&D Burger, golfing at the Westin, Tybee Island, drinks on the roof deck at the Bohemian Hotel. We also had an ice cream truck at the end of the night which was a huge hit. We also scheduled trolley tours for the guests between the ceremony and cocktail hour so we didn’t have to miss the cocktail hour for pictures. After party at Casimir’s Lounge at the Mansion. Also, the glow sticks were a really big hit as well, people got very creative with how to wear them and even ended up using the longer sticks for limbo! Last detail, we had a cigar roller during the reception and people were able to smoke their hand rolled cigars in the marble courtyard.

How did you meet?In 2006, I wrote a random late night email on Myspace to a boy who looked like no one I had seen or met in Savannah. I didn’t know what to expect. A few days later, he replied. We exchanged a few emails and it took off from there. What would you like to share about yourselves? We are so happy to call Savannah our home. Ogun is originally from the island of Cyprus and I was born and raised in Rochester, NY. Nothing makes us happier than to eat exotic food, enjoy a craft beer, and explore new places. Savannah is so picturesque and makes it a perfect place to enjoy these simple pleasures. We both work from home and are developing businesses on the side so we are fortunate enough to have the flexibility to explore and enjoy Savannah daily.
Tell us about your proposal: Ogun was living in Atlanta and I was living in Savannah when he proposed. I got home one night and was greeted by my sister who was behaving strangely. Soon after, she opened the door and there was Ogun with a guitar and he started singing to me. After, he got on one knee and proposed. He later told me the adventure he experienced to get to Savannah on time. He literally ran through the Atlanta airport to catch his flight and had help from a local friend to buy the perfect ring and the guitar. It was very surreal and so sweet and sincere.

What were the deciding factors for your Ceremony location? I have always loved historic buildings so having the ceremony in historic place was a natural choice. The Kennedy Pharmacy was perfect choice for an intimate ceremony.

Where did you get the inspiration/ideas for the details? Your colors, wedding gown? Accents, Decor, Details? The colors and the theme were inspired by an Alphonse Mucha painting. It was a perfect blend of colors and had small touches of the Mediterranean. I chose salmon, aqua, gold as my main colors and balanced them with greenery and brown from the grave vines. I also wanted to incorporate the Mediterranean theme with my wedding dress. I chose to have a simple gown with intricate details on the bodice and a drop veil and hair piece to tie in the Mediterranean theme.

What made you select Savannah and & The Distillery for your Venue? We both love craft beer and Ogun is a home brewer so we wanted a place with great beer! We also wanted an intimate setting and a place that had all of the beautiful historic features like exposed bricks and wood floors. Ogun and I were also big fans of their southern wings and burgers! We also wanted a space where we could have a DJ and dance area. Dancing is huge in both our cultures and is a major part of our celebrations.

Any advice to other couples who are in the process of planning their wedding? My main goal was to make sure that everyone enjoyed themselves. Always consider your guests but don’t obsess. The best part of getting married is being able to tell your story and show your personalities. The personalized details make it a special and memorable experience for guests. If you are able hire an event planner, do it. It is worth the expense to be able to enjoy the special moments.

Alisa & Corbin had the most amazing wedding at the Westin of Hilton Head. The day began with getting ready photos in their suites and then a first look near the coy pond located on the main grounds at the Westin. The couple then wed in the upper ballroom area which overlooks the beach and ocean then had their reception in the covered area which also overlooked the ocean.  It was an amazing day and we were so fortunate to spend it with this gorgeous couple!

How did you and Corbin meet? What would you like to share about yourselves? Corbin and I (are both teachers. He teaches high school special education and I teach elementary school. Our careers are a huge part of our lives, so we really connected over that commonality. In our limited free time, we enjoy exploring the Hilton Head and Bluffton area, refinishing furniture, and renovating our new house!
Tell us about your proposal: Corbin proposed in Savannah, Georgia. We took a beautiful carriage ride through the historic district and he proposed in Orleans Square. As he tells the story, “It was perfect October evening in the beautiful city of Savannah, Georgia. There was a light breeze in the air, and not a cloud in sight. It was the perfect evening for a carriage ride through the city. We arrived at our carriage at about 6 o’clock, and I immediately thought that Alissa had it all figured out. The carriage had white flowers all over it, and the driver handed Alissa roses when we boarded. She looked at me and simply asked, ” Did you do this?” I replied with a smile and a “Yes”, and we were on our way. As the carriage lazily meandered through the streets, I thought the ring was going to burn a hole in my pocket. Finally, we arrived at Orleans Square. The driver stopped the carriage, told us a brief love story about the fountain. Legend has it that the fountain was a spot where two lovers could make a wish, and have it come true by tossing a coin into the fountain. The driver then invited us to make a wish in the fountain.
We hopped out of the carriage and walked to the fountain. I pulled a coin out of my pocket, and gave it to Alissa to make a wish. After some resistance and a little persuasion, she agreed to do so. After she tossed her coin in, I pulled the ring from my pocket and took a knee. I told her, “I only have one wish in this world, and this fountain can’t give it to me. Alissa Kozulis will you marry me?” To which she replied with a look of shock and surprise, three “Shut-Ups!”, and an eventual “Yes!” It was one of the best days of my life.

What were the deciding factors for your Ceremony and Venue location? I tried to go into searching for a venue with an open mind. But, the Westin was what I really had my heart set on before we even began! My family had vacationed at the resort a handful of times and really enjoyed it. Additionally, when I moved to the Hilton Head area a couple years ago, my mom and I had stayed at the Westin as I was looking for an apartment and beginning my first year of teaching. I had a special connection to the hotel, and couldn’t imagine getting married anywhere else!

Additionally, the event planners at The Westin Resort and Spa Hilton Head Island were excellent! Throughout the entire process, they were easy to communicate with, did a great job handling the vendors, and set up the ceremony and reception beautifully!

Where did you get the inspiration/ideas for your wedding details? Inspiration for the details came from many different wedding magazines and blogs. The “colors” were chosen with the ocean backdrop in mind. I knew that pictures would be taken on the beach, and the reception location overlooked the ocean, so I wanted the wedding colors to complement the natural beauty of the water. I was looking for something rustic with elegant details. We used burlap, lace and wooden elements, complemented by rich metallic accents and candle light. Full flower arrangements with flowers that were different shades of pinks and corals really pulled the entire look together!

Fall is a fabulous season for Savannah weddings! We began Julia and Chad’s wedding day coverage at the Cotton Sail Hotel with getting ready photos of the bride and groom along with their wedding party. We then headed over to their lovely wedding ceremony in Orleans Square.  The bride arrived by horse and carriage and the bridesmaids were transported by pedicabs. After the wedding, the couple shared a scenic ride through Jones Street, Forsyth Park and the Historic Squares of Savannah..  It allowed them some time to relax and created many unique photo opportunities! This thoughtful couple’s attention to detail and focus on their guests made this event even more special.  We loved  everything about this wedding and were so excited to be one of the first photographers to be invited to work at the Cotton Sail Hotel, which is one of Savannah’s newest wedding venues. Above all, we were  most delighted to meet and work with Julia and Chad! Congratulations to this happy couple!

We love how one weekend we can be covering a destination wedding and making new friends and then the next weekend we are covering the wedding of families that we have worked with before!  Sophie & Colby are from the Savannah area and we first met them last spring at Sophie’s brother’s wedding. We were so excited when they told us they were getting married!  We began with the bride’s getting ready photos, then a first look shoot for the couple, as well as one for Sophie and her father Simon. This was  followed by the wedding ceremony under the old tree overlooking the pasture that symbloizes Woodlawn Plantation. Sophie & Colby’s adorable son, Reid, was the best man in the wedding. Afterwards we took group photos and family portraits, then together portraits of Sophie & Colby at sunset. They had a perfect day and were all so excited to be the first wedding to use the newly constructed barn structure for the reception. The soft blue color palette with pops of bright green as an accent color combined with the hanging mason jar lights were a fantastic compliment to the rustic barnyard setting. Last week, Jason and I were so delighted to find out that Sophie and Colby bought a home in Guyton! I know Reid is going to love living in the country! Sophie and Colby are the sweetest couple and  we wish them a lifetime of Happily Ever Afters!!!

Samantha and Jason had an extraordinary wedding day. We began with wedding photos at the First Presbyterian Church in Beaufort and then headed over to their Wedding Venue, Belfair Plantation in Bluffton. Belfair has the most amazing live oak entrance and so we opted to photograph the wedding party there. Afterwards, we spent alone time with the bride and groom and did together wedding portraits at sunset. This couple’s wedding at Belfair was lovely in every way! They are so beautiful together and it was wonderful to meet both families. The bride was so elegant and the groom was charming; their extraordinary night was filled with dinner, heartfelt wedding toasts and so much happiness by all who traveled in from Maryland and Rochester, NY!  The couple ended their night with a sparkler send off. Congratulations to Samantha and Jason and may your life together always be as wonderful as your wedding day!

About us: We met in college at UNC Charlotte. I’m from Maryland and Jason is from Rochester, NY. We live in Charlotte, NC. Jason is the east coast sales manager for a small winery out of Napa, B Cellars and I am in Real Estate. We love to stay active, spend time with family and friends, travel, ect. We look forward to buying our first home next year

What were the deciding factors for your Ceremony and Venue location? We chose First Presbyterian Church of Beaufort because of the old southern feel of the town and church. I love spanish moss and rustic looking buildings, decor, ect. I always wanted to get married in a church, although our ceremony was short and sweet I think getting married in front of God in addition to your loved ones is very important. We chose Belfair Plantation at first because of the entrance, the Avenue of the Oaks. It was like a real life fairytale and the perfect place for a party and amazing photos.

Where did you get the inspiration/ideas for the details? The cake color? The accents and decor? Also the blush curtains at the entrance to the reception… I am a girly girl at heart and wanted to keep our wedding as neutral as possible. Our colors were ivory and blush with the exception of the magenta bridesmaid dresses. I wanted their dresses to be a pop of color against the groomsmen in black and white. Most of all, I wanted to look back at these photos in 30 years and not to be out of date. I wanted to stick to the classics and not be too trendy. The blush drapery that I had installed just screamed romance to me. It was a sign that something big was going on in the room and that it was a special gathering.

Any advice to other couples who are in the process of planning their wedding? Always be gracious and thankful. People will remember how gracious you were and will be happy to have been a part of your day.

I met Jasna and Craig at The Mansion on Forsyth Park for their Wedding Portraits. We began with getting ready photos and then photos near the Mansion on Forsyth Hotel and 700 Drayton. After the ceremony, we went in and around Forsyth Park, Gaston Street and then in Monterey Square. We then returned to take photos at the Forsyth Fountain. The main promenade to the Forsyth Fountain was bustling with activity,  so we decided to photograph in a more secluded area which has a more intimate view of the fountain. As we approached the area, Craig dipped Jasna right in front of the fountain. (So romantic!)   Savannah is full of special memories for this beautiful couple. Craig proposed in Lafayette Square during a trip to Savannah, when the couple had been vacationing at the Hamilton-Turner House. Later, they returned to Savannah for their wedding reception at The Mansion overlooking Forsyth Park. I hope they  continue to return to Savannah to enjoy our beautiful city for many years to come. This couple was so fun to photograph and its completely evident that no matter where they go in life that they will always have the most magnificent of adventures together. Best Wishes to you both!

I was traveling (my occupation is in sales for military connectors) and he was working (he’s a C-130 Aircraft Electrician). I was conducting training at the Warner Robins Air Force Base  for the machinery we sell and he was attending the training. We began talking after the session he asked if we could go out the next time I was in town. At the time I was living in Charlotte, NC and he was in Warner Robins, GA. We talked for about a month and met in Atlanta for a weekend to see each other. From that weekend, we saw each other as much as we could and here we are today (3 years later). Adam is from Warner Robins, and I’m originally from Pennsylvania. I moved down to Warner Robins right after we got engaged (1.5 years) and had 1.5 years engagement. We love doing things together, and actually do almost everything together. We both enjoy staying active and he is very into mixed martial arts-Jiu Jitsu. How did  you select Sea Palms as your Ceremony and Reception location? We had no idea where to do our wedding. For us, it was the hardest decision to make. My family lives in PA and Adam’s family lives in GA. We discovered Sea Palms at a wedding show in Savannah. A few weeks later, we toured Sea Palms Resort and fell in love with St. Simon Island and the atmosphere of the resort. What are some of your favorite local places in St. Simons that you recommend to others?  The downtown area near the pier and lighthouse is great! There’s shopping and places to eat and drink. We love renting bikes and riding all over the island. Where did you get the inspiration/ideas for the details?  All my ideas and inspiration came from Pinterest, it gave me ideas for decorating. My friends and family also helped me along the way, as most of my friends/sister are all married, so it helped out alot. I love the bashful pink and grey look. And I thought it would go great with the environment at the Sea Palms. Since we were having our ceremony outside, I wanted a color that wouldn’t be too distracting so I selected soft tones that would also look good on our wedding party. Do you have any advice to other couples who are in the process of planning their wedding? My advice to other couples, is to take your time, don’t rush and have fun with it!   DJ: Island Sound /Wedding Cake: Betty Zeigler Cakes /Ceremony music: pianist: HeartWORKS Studio / Officiant: Rv. Planning:  Nicole said “I had so much fun planning all of the details of the wedding. I am a really creative person so it was fun to do something that I liked and use my creativity for the details.  I liked it so much that I want to get into wedding planning and am already planning a friends wedding in February! For my bridesmaids, I encouraged them to choose their own dresses because everyone’s body is different and I wanted them to feel comfortable.  I gave them three rules:  The dress had  to be within the color scheme, it had to be something that they loved, and something that they would wear again!  For the guys, we didn’t care for the selections offered at rental shops. It actually worked out to be less money to buy them than to rent them! It was an added bonus that the guys may even wear parts of their outfits again. Zach and the groomsmen opted not to wear jackets because its just too hot in Savannah for all of that fabric! Zach really wanted to give his groomsmen watches. We selected watches with a leather bands and dark gray faces to compliment their attire.”

Lindsay and Justin had a romantic and intimate wedding on Jones Street. We began with candid pre-wedding portraits in Lafayette Square. After portraits, we went over to the ceremony site, located in a secluded garden at 16 West Jones Street. The couple said their own vows in a wedding ceremony that was officiated by Helen P. Bradley. After the ceremony, Lindsay and Justin enjoyed time with their immediate family in the garden and celebrated with a champagne toast and appetizers. Later in the evening there was a dinner in honor of the couple over at over at Elizabeth’s on 37th. Everything was beautiful about their wedding and it was such a happy occasion for everyone involved!

I am so excited to be blogging about another amazing Spring wedding! I met Krista four years ago when she was the maid of honor at her sister, Beth’s Wedding. When  Krista introduced me to her boyfriend Matthew, I just knew that eventually they would be married too! So now, we fast forward  to their wedding at the Woodlawn Plantation in Guyton, GA which is just a hop, skip and a jump from Savannah. With its vintage inspired gardens and natural scenery, Woodlawn Plantation is charming in every way and perfect for anyone seeking a beautiful wedding in the country. Even though there had been significant rain in Savannah, the weather ended up improving  once we arrived to Guyton. met Krista, her sister Beth and bridesmaids at the plantation’s bridal room, while Jason met with Matthew and his groomsmen and began photographing them as they got ready in main house.  There was a light sprinkle of rain before the ceremony, but then it held off with only clouds for the rest of the day.  The couple was able to move forward as planned and said their vows at one of the most beautiful settings on the property.  After the ceremony, Krista and Matthew had group portraits, then photos alone. Later, they hosted an intimate cocktail hour, dinner and dessert of wedding cake for their guests in the glass gazebo, located to the side of the main house. During the wedding toasts,  Krista and Matthew explained to everyone that their wedding day was on their five year anniversary of dating.  After toasts commenced, everyone transitioned to the garden and outdoor bar area for drinks and dancing under the stars. We enjoyed spending time photographing Krista and Matthew and seeing their family again. We wish them the very best in their new life together!

Our Story: Matthew and I met in January of 2009.  After a few “Hi, Hellos, and Have a Good day,” Matthew messaged me on myspace and we began talking. It was an instant connection! We talked all day, everyday for a whole month, smiling at each other every time he came into my work. We decided to hang out, and really enjoyed each other’s company. In march of 2009, he asked me out, and we have been best friends ever since!

These song lyrics sum up our relationship: “How two souls could be miles from one another, but still you and me somehow found each other.” Matthew is from Birmingham, England and grew up in Ireland. He moved to America with his family in 2001. I was born and raised in Savannah, GA.  Our home is now in Pooler, GA.  Matthew works at Protile Renovations LTD, a company he started with with his parents in 2008. I’ve been employed at YMCA since 2006, starting off with the summer camp, then taking an opportunity to work at the front desk where I met Matthew. Now I work back with the one year olds as their teacher, which I am so blessed to be. I absolutely love my munchkins!

Matthew and I enjoy riding 4 wheelers and dirt bikes and taking our boat out during the summer! We also enjoy going to the movies, and driving in Matthew’s jeep with the top down. Whatever we do, we always enjoy each other’s company!

How did you choose Woodlawn Plantation as your Ceremony and Reception location? Matthew and I were looking for a laid back rustic theme. Something outdoors. We came across Woodlawn Plantation. The pictures online really intrigued us so we took a trip out. We absolutely loved it! After taking a tour, getting some info, and asking a few questions, we decided this was it. We had only looked at one other location, but nothing could compare to the positive vibe we were getting from this beautiful venue!

The Dress: The opportunity arose for my mom and I to go to New York. After trying on dresses locally, and not really liking any of the choices, we decided, why not try dresses on in New York?! I made the appointment to Kleinfeld, not even thinking I would find “the one” but just going for the once in a lifetime experience! When arriving at Kleinfeld’s, I felt like a princess, and I hadn’t even tried dresses on yet! I had an amazing consultant who made my experience priceless.

I showed her a few pictures of what I liked and my price range. She returned with about 3 dresses. The first one I saw, I thought looked funny but decided to try it on first. When I put it on, it actually was really nice, completely unexpected! I did a few twirls, then tried on the next dress. It was OKAY, so on to the third! I was just so indecisive, I tried all 3 on probably about 5 times. When the associate saw my frustration in not being noble to make a decision, she told me she would bring a dress completely out of my price range, but exactly what I was describing to her. I thought, “oh great. I’ll fall in love and won’t be able to get it..” WRONG! What I told her I wanted was something simple, no beading, sweetheart cut, ruffles, one shoulder and it was just awful. I thanked her for showing me that I actually didn’t want what I thought, and put that all aside while looking back at the 3 dresses she had chosen. I decided to try on the first one again before leaving. It was like a light had been lit in a dark hallway, I had instantly fallen in love. Having an open mind and looking back on the dress, I realized it was perfect and brought me to tears. It was the perfect experience, with the perfect dress that was UNDER my budget.

The Details:  I looked a lot online for ideas, mainly rustic. Pinterest was my best friend! I wanted things pretty simple, but to have that country/Southern feel. Everything was perfect! I couldn’t have planned a better feel, all thanks to my mom, my sister and our Photographer, Nikki.

The Cake: I wanted it to be fondant, I was just love how it looks. My friend Brittany made the cake and used a marshmallow fondant which was less sweet but still had the same texture. It was absolutely delicious! I wanted it to be simple, with a little but of color, and she captured that perfectly!

The Shoes: I used to wear the same pair of shoes all the time. When Matthew first asked me to hangout, neither of us knew that we liked each other. It was more of a getting to know a new friend thing. I wore my green rocket dogs of course! The next week, he decided to take a chance and ask me out! If course I said yes 🙂 we went to a movie and dinner and I wore those same green rocket dogs. I wore them for the majority of our first year of dating. After moving I lost one shoe to that pair. My mom had an identical pair that I took from her and wore them often. Those are the ones I wore on our wedding day. I have saved that one shoe from when we began dating and I just can’t part with it!

The Flowers:  ordered from Kroger Floral Department!  We wanted the flowers to be casual and fun and to fit with our theme. I selected tons of baby’s breath and a vintage, wildflower bouquet for myself. On Wedding day, my bridesmaids and I assembled the flowers ourselves! We also had baby’s breath at the reception along with fresh cut fuscia Camellia’s to match our Southern theme.

Tossing the Bouquet: I always loved bouquet tosses at weddings, but I never liked that only one person ended up with it. I know the feeling, the anticipation of wanting to catch that bouquet, thinking, “Just maybe if I can  jump a bit more to the left this time, maybe I’ll catch it” and also thinking of how special I would feel if I did catch it.  Why shouldn’t everyone feel this special? Then I thought, maybe everyone COULD catch it. Instead of having one bouquet, I decided to cut the band keeping them all bound, and have about 20 different flowers fly into the sky when I did the big throw. When the bouquet flew into the air, everyone was so surprised! I was so happy with my little surprise for all the lovely single ladies!

Approximate planning time: engaged for a year, started planning in July/August.–about 8 months / # of Guests: 50 /  Rehearsal Party: At our wedding venue the night before.  It was the first time the whole wedding party saw the venue, they absolutely loved it!  Hair: Marrisa Bryant, the braid is an Irish tradition on wedding day / Makeup: Brennan Sarver / Wedding Cake: Brittany Childers / Bride’s Jewelry: Necklace & earrings were from mother; Bracelet was a gift from Simon and Kay (in laws) /Caterer: Quantum/  Wedding Gown: from Kleinfeld in NYC (Designer: Maggie Sottero: Haute Couture / Bridesmaid’s Dresses: David’s Bridal/ Groom / Groomsmen Attire: Simons Formal / Officiant: Reverend Daryl Brown /  Guest Accommodations: De Soto Savannah & The Bohemian Hotel Savannah:  After our wedding, we celebrated and stayed in a suite at the Bohemian Hotel. We had a beautiful view of downtown Savannah and River Street / Transportation:  That evening we took  Matthew’s jeep to the hotel, his father tied the traditional cans and shoes to our jeep! So Fun!

Kim and Rashad had a  wonderful sunset ceremony on the roof top of Andaz Hotel located in Historic Savannah near City Market and overlooking Ellis Square. I met with Rashad for portraits before the ceremony and then headed over to the couple’s amazing hotel suite for bridal portraits with Kim.  After the ceremony the couple rented pedicabs to take us over to  Telfair Square. It was a great idea and so fun to be driving right beside the couple taking photos as they shared some alone time together while many vacationers, already in Savannah celebrating St. Patrick’s Day,  stopped what they were doing to yell “Congratulations!!!” The squares are just beginning to turn green and Telfair square was vivid and alive with blooms.  There were many  trees full of blossoms combined with beautiful buildings which made it the perfect atmosphere for photos. After we finished up wedding photographs in the square,  the couple requested that the pedicab drivers take us over to nearby rustic brick structures for more casual photos. The couple had a fantastic fun time just enjoying each other’s company while taking photos. They’ve been together for over twelve years and were so excited to finally be married. It was wonderful to meet and photograph this couple who is also originally from Western NY area and now call Savannah their home too.

Our Story:  We met each other in high school in Rochester, NY.  We hung out in the same social circle but we didn’t know each other that well.  After high school, Rashad joined the Army and I went to college.  While he was away from home, he remembered to call each year on my birthday.  When his 4 years were up, he returned to Rochester and we began spending more time together (thanks to our mutual friend Douglas).  As I was able to get to know him, I developed a crush.  One night while we were out dancing I decided to kiss him.  And the rest is history. (I found out after we started dating that even throughout high school, he always thought I was cute.)

We decided to leave Rochester and come to Savannah because Rashad loved the area so much when he was stationed at Ft. Stewart.  I was also having a hard time finding a teaching position in NY.  We came here for a St. Patrick’s Day vacation, and while I was here I was offered a teaching position.  The next August we packed up and said good bye to the cold weather forever.  He transferred from his position with  the Department of Homeland Security and I have taught second grade since we moved.  Rashad planned a surprise proposal at a wonderful restaurant in Hilton Head, Michael Anthony’s.  On his signal, one of the staff presented the ring on a plate with a single red rose.  He got down on one knee and of course I said yes.   We love living in Savannah!  We enjoy going for walks to take in the beautiful scenery and eating in the many wonderful restaurants.  Many of our family and friends from Rochester like to visit us here.

What made you decide to have your wedding in Savannah? What made you select Andaz for your location? We chose the Andaz because it allowed us to have our intimate wedding, yet still still offered the elegance we were looking for.

Where did you get the inspiration/ideas for the details? Once we decided on our color scheme (champagne and slate blue) I found a lot of my ideas through Pinterest.  I have to give much of the credit for our beautiful wedding to our planners, Jessica and Ivelisse.

Any Advice to other couples who are in the process of planning a wedding? We wanted an intimate wedding because that just fits both of our personalities. It turned out beautifully thanks to our planners and the staff at Andaz.   I think that each couple has to do what works for them.

Keri and Stewart had a beautiful spring wedding at The Mackey House. The weather forecast called for rain and thunderstorms all week but their day turned out to be perfect. It was obvious that the couple loved the outdoors and we brought as much of that into the photos as possible. We began with getting ready photos and then proceeded to walk the grounds capturing shots of the wedding party. The ceremony followed on the lawn just before sunset under the arbor. Newly joined as husband and wife they proceeded to their first dance under the pavilion to kick of the reception. The band “Majic” provided amazing live entertainment to the energized guests. The night concluded with a sparkler send off  leading the couple into the night and their new future together.

How did you meet? We met at a University of Georgia Football game in 2011, by some stroke of fate we ended up sitting next to each other for the game. During the second half, a lady told Stewart that one day he was going to marry “that girl.” He brushed it off and went on about his way. Six months later we had our first date and the rest was icing on the wedding cake.

Tell us about yourselves and any activities that you enjoy doing together…We are both from Southeast Georgia, Stewart is from Douglas, GA and I am from Baxley, GA. We currently live and work Baxley. I work as the Executive Director of the Baxley/Appling County Chamber of Commerce and Stewart works with AgSouth Farm Credit. We do a lot of different things together. We both enjoy the outdoors which we spend a lot of time in tending to our farms. We grow blueberries and pecans as well as manage timberlands. We both enjoy various sports from tennis to football to golf and snow skiing.  In the summer we like to fish and ski in the Altamaha River. We also enjoy going to the beach on St. Simons Island and Jacksonville Beach. We have a 125 lbs Great Pyrenees Dog named “Castle;” he is basically our child for the time being and he is very upset that he was not included in the wedding, however he was very appreciative of getting to taste some of the left overs from the reception!

What made you decide to have your wedding at The Mackey House in Savannah?  We have always loved Savannah and Stewarts family has roots there and The Mackey House was our choice for a venue for a several reasons. We loved the old plantation vibe that we got when we visited it for the first time. After we left, as we were reading about it, Stewart realized that the owners were actually distant relatives, so that sealed the deal!

Where did you get  ideas for your wedding such as the the cake, centerpieces and the music?  I am an extremely laid back person so I really had very little knowledge of what I wanted as far as colors and “themes”. We both enjoy wine and love the color blue so we decided to incorporate some blue wine bottles and the rest just kind of fell into place with the help of Michelle with Improvisions. We both enjoy dancing so we knew we wanted an oldies band, which we found with no problem in Savannah.

Did you have any advice to other couples who are in the process of planning a wedding? Advice…. hmmmm. I would say to enjoy it. Do not get too caught up in the minor details because honestly people do not notice all the things you think they do. Make it about you and your husband. Also, START EARLY…. there are many small things that you will have to do in the weeks before the wedding so do as much of the work as you can before those final few weeks. As far as obstacles we really didn’t have that many, we waited until the last minute to do some things, but it all worked out in the end. The wedding and reception was a dream come true. To have our closest friends and family there to be a part of our special day was unforgettable and we are so grateful for all of them.

Loren and John were married at the Mackey House in Savannah GA. The Mackey House is a beautiful place to be during the holidays and we were happy to cover a winter wedding there. Rain threatened to dampen the event but held off long enough for the guests to arrive and get situated and for the groomsmen to have photographs taken outdoors. Rain started to fall during the ceremony but added to the romance and ambiance of the ceremony. As rain fell on the roof of the open pavilion the couple exchanged vows in front of a warm crackling fire. Afterwards, everyone adjourned into the main house for cocktails and group photos followed by a reception that offered a myriad of entrees and then two beautiful cakes that were enjoyed by all. As the night danced in the covered deck area enjoyed the Blush photo booth on the Mackey House’s spacious wraparound porch. The rain ended in time for the couple to have a fun sparkler send off and then depart in a 1949 Rolls Royce.

Tell us about yourself: We met during undergrad at Augusta State University. I was studying with a friend and she asked if it was ok if her friend came and sat with us while he ate lunch. I agreed, he showed up and we became really good friends. We actually didn’t start dating until a year later. I’m originally from? Wrightsville, Georgia. John is from Augusta, GA. We currently live in Columbia, SC where I’m a last year pharmacy student. John is a loss control consultant for Liberty Mutual Insurance. What we really enjoy the most is just the everyday activities, like cuddling while watching a movie or date night.

What made you select The Mackey House as your Ceremony and Reception location? We chose the Mackey House, because we both wanted a casual setting where our families could really get to know each other. Savannah was our wedding location because John’s family is in Augusta and most of mine is in Florida and middle GA…we just thought Savannah would be middle ground for everyone. Not to mention it is absolutely a beautiful city!  I have always loved fall and winter weddings and we got very lucky that my pharmacy school schedule allowed a long enough break for our winter wedding. John and I especially loved the fact that once we got back from our honeymoon we got to spend our 1st Christmas together married.

What inspired you to use the metallic accents for your wedding?  If you were to walk into my house you would see lots of metallic! I just really love to accent with golds, silvers and bronzes!! Now that I wrote that sounds like the Olympics! My Bridesmaids also wore metallic flats because their dresses were all long and there was no point in being uncomfortable in heels when no one would see them.

Approximate planning time for wedding: 1 year / # of Guests: 150 / Wedding Gown: Maggie Sottero /Seamstress: Elite Alterations /Shoes: Anne Klein /Hair: Studio 15 (Camron Roberts) /Makeup: Brooke Winkler (sister) / Bridesmaid’s Dresses: Dessy Gowns /Groom’s Attire: Vera Wang / Groomsmen’s attire: Vera Wang /Officiant: Reverend Henry Mayo / Florist: John Davis Florist / Cakes: Delectable Designs / Caterer: Magnolia Grill / Transportation: Luxury Limousine – 1949 Rolls Royce / Rehearsal Dinner: Pirates House /Guest Accommodations: Inn at Ellis Square /Honeymoon:Polynesian Resort at Disney World

Custom Items: All of the jewelry for the wedding Party was made by my Nana! John has lots of hobbies, for the Goom’s cake he chose his top 3 (Golfing, Fishing & Hunting) and then he actually designed the cake! My veil was actually from my mother’s wedding.

We had a wonderful time at Elandra & Peter’s wedding at Andaz Hotel. Andaz is a lovely and modern hotel located on Ellis Square in the heart of Savannah near City Market and River Street. The couples fondness of the area compelled them to marry in Savannah and to celebrate the occasion with numerous family members traveling from as far as the Commonwealth of Dominica located in the Caribbean. The day started with getting ready portraits in the hotel suites and quickly moved to more formal portraits in the city squares. A limousine first took the groomsmen to Madison and LaFayette Squares and then doubled back to escort the bridal party to Monterey Square for bridal portraits. Everyone gathered back at the Andaz roof deck courtyard to witness the beautiful ceremony as officiated by Reverend Steven Schulte. Upon conclusion the bridal party traveled to the majestic Forsyth Fountain and promenade for more photographs. The night ended with dinner, dancing and a wonderful time had by all. 1-Beautiful Savannah Wedding Flowers Bouquets Blush Photos Kato Florist-005 1-Award Winning Best Savannah Wedding Photographer The Knot WeddingWire Rated Beautiul Bride Portrait-002 01-Purple Bride Wedding Shoes Heels Savannah Boquet Kato Andaz Hotel 1-Wedding Monterey Square Forsyth Park Ogelthorpe Club Savannah Best Artisitc Photgrapher 1-Beautiful Bride and bridal Party Flower Girls Savannah Wedding Forsyth Park Monterey Square 05-Beautiful Violet Purple Satin Wedding Brides Shoes Forsyth Park Savannah GA Wedding Photographer-001 1-Groom Groomsmen Lafayette and Ellis Square Andaz Rooftop Wedding Ceremony Savannah Hilton HeadPhotographer 1-Kato Florist Wedding Flowers Savannah Andaz Photographer Mansion Mens Wearhouse Suit Groom 11-Wedding Photographer Andaz Hotel Savannah Ellis Square 1-Andaz Wedding Savannah Kato Flowers Florist 56-Andaz Rooftop Wedding Bohemian Hotel Savannah -001 13-IMG_9046-00212-Wedding Flowers Bouquet Kato Florist Savannah Andaz Hotel Beautiful Ceremony Reverand Schultet Artisitc and Candid Wedding Photographer Savannah GA1-Bride and Groom Kiss First Look Forsyth Park Savannah Wedding Photographer near 700 Drayton Ogelthorpe Club Gastonian Olde Pink House Forsyth Mansion Kehoe House 2-Wedding Photograhy Forsyth Park Fountan Savannah -001 1-Wedding Photograhy Forsyth Park Fountan Savannah 07-Wedding Ceremony Near Forsyth Park Mansion Inn Ogelthorpe Club Fountain Andaz Savannah Photographer 08-Bride and Groom Wedding Forsyth Fountain Mansion Inn Park Creative Savannah Photographer couple 1-Wedding Flowers Centerpiece Boquet Kato Florist Candy Buffet Andaz Reception 1-Savannah Candy Buffet Andaz Hotel Wedding Reception

I had been in close contact with Whitney and Claiborne for quite some time before their wedding and was beyond excited when their wedding day finally arrived. They were very hands on with the planning process and did a fantastic job working together to make everything happen—both Whitney and Claiborne are beautiful people as individuals and even better as a couple. We thoroughly enjoyed our time with them, their family and their awesome wedding party! From the view of the ocean  to the live band it was unique and a magnificent celebration and I have no doubt that everyone involved made some great memories.

For instance how did you meet? Claiborne and I met at my sister’s wedding 6 years ago! We have been together ever since 🙂

Where do you currently live? We live in Richmond, Virginia

What activities do you enjoy doing together? Claiborne and I love to travel, try new restaurants, cook, and entertain at our home.

What made you choose the Westin Resort and Spa of Hilton Head Island as your Reception location? We loved the covered pavilion and the beautiful ocean view.

What made you decide to have your wedding in Hilton Head? Claiborne and I are both from Georgia but have lived and gone to school all over the southeast. We both grew up going to Hilton Head Island for vacation and decided that HHI would be the best central location for all our guests.. not to mention it is a beautiful vacation spot!

What do you like most about the Hilton Head area? I love the shopping, the restaurants, and the beautiful sunsets! It really is one of the best beaches! Claiborne loves the golf!

Do you visit here often? Whenever we can! We will be back this summer, I’m sure!

Where did you get the inspiration/ideas for the details? Honestly, I got most of my ideas from Pinterest and Etsy. I knew I wanted to play on the beach theme and Pinterest and Etsy helped me bring all the ideas to life.

The colors? I wanted navy and coral because I love the way they compliment each other. They are very beachy colors too!

The lighting and the Band? The band was suggested to me by our friend, Lizzie Baker. We loved Two 3 Ways! I had seen a wedding at the Westin with the cafe lighting all over the dance floor and decided I think it would look best with the lighting covering the pavilion. I’m glad we did! I think it looked amazing.

Dylan and including him in photos? We love our Miniature Australian Shepherd, Dylan. He is so well behaved(for the most part), loving, and photogenic!! We knew we couldn’t get married without him!

Approximate planning time for wedding: 10 months

Any planning obstacles with this being a long distance wedding? Not really. We took a week in July for our meetings and decision making. That seemed to be enough time with the vendors and of course, there was plenty of email correspondence!

We photographed Michelle & Mark’s beach wedding at The Palmetto Dune’s House. We began with getting ready photos of the bride at The Marriot Resort of Hilton Head while the groom, best man and family awaited Michelle’s arrival at the beach. Mark’s father officiated a touching ceremony that was followed by sunset photos on the beach while the guests enjoyed a cocktail hour. Michelle has a great sense of style and created many of the items with the help of family and friends. The customized accessories made for a relaxed and interesting reception for guests who mingled  as they reminisced about carefully placed photos, signs and poems. The Dunes House is a perfect location for anyone considering a wedding reception that overlooks the beach. The marquis style lighting combined with the paper lanterns that Michelle and Mark chose created an ambiance that was wonderful for evening photos. We had a fantastic time photographing this gorgeous couple.

Ceremony Music, DJ: Brides First Dance (Bill West)

Wedding Gown:  100% silk, Anjolique gown. It was purchased from a Brides Against Breast Cancer event where all dresses are donated and 70% of the proceeds go towards cancer research.

Shoes: Coral wedges were a must once we decided on a beach wedding! Bought the wedges before I bought my dress.

Hair (amazing) LOVED that you had an elegant updo with the accent flowers! Hair was done by Fifth Avenue Salon of Hilton Head Island. I knew I needed my hair pulled back and secure since the beach would be a little windy. My florist picked the ivory and coral tea roses for my hair.

Makeup: Fifth Avenue Salon

Bride’s Jewelry: I picked out pearl jewelry I liked online and Mark bought it for me as a gift.

Bridesmaid’s Dresses: Bright coral dresses from David’s Bridal…. One sister is pregnant. She opted for a Halter A-line dress.

Bridesmaid’s Dresses/Accessories/Jewelry: I gave each of my sisters a silver bracelet with Austrian crystal beads as a bridesmaid gift. They both wore it on the day of the wedding. We also all have matching rings that read: Always sisters, Forever Friends

Groom’s attire: Light grey linen pants, ivory linen shirts and rainbow flip flopsThe groom prefers to be causal and comfy no matter the occasion. Keeping him cool and comfortable on our wedding day was important; my only request was that he didn’t wear his Jordan sandals to the wedding. The rainbow flip flops were my favorite part of his attire. .
Groomsmen’s attire:
The Best Man wore the same outfit as the groom. They’ve been best friends since they were 5 and still talk to each other almost every day.

Florist:  The Flower Shop – Bluffton;  The florist Lauri wrapped my bouquet with burlap and lace her grandmother made.

Cake/Caterer The Dunes House

Was there a Rehearsal Dinner? Where? The rehearsal dinner took place the home my parents rented in Palmetto Dunes. It had a large deck overlooking a lagoon. My Dad, older sister and brother in law prepared ribs, corn on the cob and cheesey potatoes for 30 guests.

Guest Accommodations: Our friends and family rented homes in Palmetto Dunes.

We met at a Mega 80’s Concert in Grand Rapids, MI in November of 2008.  Somehow I managed to captivate Mark’s attention; he actually put his phone down to engage in conversation! After a few months of dating on and off, we realized we were better together than apart and decided to make our relationship official.  At that time, I was in grad school at Grand Valley State and Mark was working for Stryker in Grand Rapids. After graduating in April 2009, I moved to North Carolina an began my career as a school counselor. Shortly thereafter, Mark packed up his life in Michigan and headed down south to be with his sweetheart. Since living in North Carolina, we’ve lived in Greenville, Knightdale and now currently reside in Raleigh with our 3 cats (Bellagio, Peaches and Ivey) and Boston Terrier (Zee).

Mark proposed on March 10, 2013 while holding Peaches (our smooshed face cat) under his arm. Even though Peaches scurried away after Mark got down on one knee, she was thrilled to be part of the proposal. Mark is a medical device salesman with North Carolina and Kentucky as his territory. I’m a high school counselor in Raleigh. We love living in North Carolina and being able go and explore the fun areas along the coast (the Outer Banks, Wilmington, Atlantic Beach, Myrtle Beach, Charleston and Hilton Head).

Mark worried we would end up having a large wedding if we got married back home in Michigan which is why we decided to get married near where we live. We had visited the Hilton Head area a few times after my brother had moved to Bluffton last year. We fell in love with Hilton Head’s beauty and tranquility. We agreed it would be an ideal location for our “someday” wedding. It wasn’t too far from where we live and it would provide our traveling guests a vacation destination. After researching different wedding locations in Hilton Head, the Dunes House met the requirements we were looking for. It’s a great location right on the beach and affordable as long as we kept our wedding guest list small. We made the decision to get married at the Dunes House before seeing it in person, viewed it over FaceTime when the Dunes House deck was undergoing construction. After seeing the Dunes House in person for the first time in April, I knew I made the right choice. It was the perfect size for a small wedding and I loved the bar area! I knew my guests would love it too.

While visiting a hotel, I saw a wedding picture on display in the lobby with the bridesmaids on a beach wearing coral dresses; I loved how the color of their dresses popped against the sand. I knew if I got married on a beach, I wanted to have my bridesmaids wear coral. Once we decided to have a beach wedding, I had to find a more neutral color to help balance the bright coral color. Light grey was a perfect match!

I did a TON of pinning on pinterest to come up with wedding crafting ideas. With having a small wedding, I knew I could handle making all the invites, programs and decorations. Once I started crafting, I couldn’t stop. I created a list of crafts I wanted to do so I made sure I had enough time to get them done before the wedding. My sister, Laurel, my Grandma T and my best friend Michelle helped me tackle all the crafting. From chalk boards, to burlap banners…. My wedding crafts quickly took over what used to be the cats’ room in our house.

Mark does not like desserts and had no interest in having an expensive cake made. Luckily, the food package we selected at the Dunes House included chocolate cake and Key Lime Pie (my favorite!). I wanted our wedding favors to tie in with our beach wedding which is how I came up with having Salt Water Taffy.  My brother and I went to Hilton Head Candy Company and tried all their flavors to decide on what ones to have as my wedding favors. So many delicious flavors but was able to narrow my decision down to 5 – Key Lime Pie, Chocolate Chip Cookie, Frosted Cupcake, Peaches and Cream and Chocolate.

Mark was taking a long time to propose (but I knew it was coming) so I started planning our wedding in February giving me 7 months to plan. Once he proposed in March, the save-the-dates were already ready to go. I was afraid everything would be booked if I waited on Mark. Starting to plan and book things early kept me from getting caught up in the stress of wedding planning. Using wedding websites and reviews to make decisions on photography, music, salons, etc…. made planning from afar very easy. All the reviews I had read held up to be true!

Both of my Grandpa’s passed away recently, so we included photos of them at the ceremony. They were a big part of my life and Mark’s as he had spent holidays with them over the last 5 years. The last time I had talked to my Grandpas, they both had asked “How’s Mark doing?” Even though they weren’t physically there for our wedding, I know they were smiling from above because they approved. My Grandpa Nuyen passed away in December. He always wore his Mickey Mouse watch, he even wore it when the battery was dead because he never went anywhere without it on. I knew when I got married, I wanted a part of him to be with me the entire night so I asked my Grandma if I could wear his watch for my “something borrowed.” Once she found the watch, she told me I could have because she knew how much he meant to me

Mark, what was it like to have your father presiding over your ceremony?  It was awesome having my Dad play such a big role for the most intimate part of our wedding. Having him unite us as man and wife made the moment even more meaningful.

We met Sarah and Jon at 17 West Park Avenue which is a charming historic rental property that overlooks Forsyth Park. We did their individual getting ready portraits at the home, then continued on with Sara’s bridal portraits in Chatham Square. While Sara was having her bridal portraits,  Jon went over to the Railroad Museum and took photos with friends and family. He then enjoyed some cordials in the vintage dining car which the couple had rented for the day. They then met for a first look in the Roundhouse building and had portraits taken. Their intimate wedding ceremony followed in the side courtyard of the railroad museum as the sun set.  Afterwards, immediate family remained in the courtyard for photos and the entire group enjoyed a cocktail hour into the twilight hours. The weather was perfect as guests sipped on mint juleps and basil gimlets while some enjoyed cigars from the Savannah Cigar Bar, all of which which were wonderful custom touches. Cocktail hour was followed by a catered reception at The Blacksmith’s Shop which was decorated with vintage lighting, books and natural plants (a tip: things to consider when hiring a wedding caterer). Dessert of wedding cake and Georgia Peach Cobbler with ice cream were served. Nine members of the group then toasted the couple.  Each guest spoke about the couple from very different perspectives and reminisced about various stages of their lives as individuals and then as a couple. The entire event was gracefully arranged by two wonderful people that we really enjoyed getting to know!   S&J's Wedding-697

About Us: The short version is that I’m an editor originally from Massachusetts and Jon’s a scientist originally from California. Jon and I have lived outside Philadelphia for the past two years, though we have a history of cross-country moves. We spent the two years prior to that near Pasadena, in southern California, and before that, we were in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where Jon was in grad school (that’s where we met; I had moved to Boston after college). Moving is part of being attached to an academic. Jon is currently a biology professor, but his background is in geology–if you want to get specific, he’s a paleobotanist, like Laura Dern’s character in Jurassic Park. We have fossil plants all over the apartment, he has a great collection of crazy near-death fieldwork stories, and he’s really fun to camp with. Fortunately, what I do is pretty portable. I’m an editor. My background is mainly in K–12 educational publishing, which is what I did in the Boston area, but I worked in university communications while we lived in California. When we moved to Pennsylvania, I decided to try freelance copyediting full-time, which has been working out well. It also means that my work schedule is very flexible, so I come down to Savannah as often as possible!

What made you decide to have your wedding in Historic Savannah? This was an easy choice: my parents live in Savannah now. They fell in love with the city when my brother started studying film at SCAD in 2005, visited as often as they could, and moved here full-time in 2011, so for the past eight years, this area has been the backdrop for many family memories. It made perfect sense for the wedding. Jon and I are originally from opposite coasts, our family members are scattered around the country, and we’ve moved as a couple several times during our six years together, so there was no other place that had the same clear draw–a place that had personal meaning to us, was fun and accessible for our guests, would keep the planning process simple, and would make for an unusual and memorable setting. We loved the idea of introducing so many of our guests to Savannah, too.

What do you like most about the Savannah area? What are some of your favorite places to visit while you are here? It’s remarkable how quickly Jon and I relax whenever we come to Savannah. That calm–a combination of the slower pace and the striking friendliness–is one of our favorite parts of the place. We also love its quirkiness and lushness and air of perpetual celebration. Over the years, we’ve accumulated some favorite spots to eat and hang out, but we’re always discovering new ones. We used AppyCouple, a new wedding website option that creates a corresponding smartphone app for guests, to make a simple website filled with recommendations for the weekend–especially for food. This helped us tell guests about our favorite places and keep that information accessible on the go. The list included the Distillery–where we had a casual and delightful rehearsal dinner followed by a sprawling “welcome gathering” the night before the wedding–as well as Rancho Alegre, Crystal Beer Parlor, B. Matthews, J. Christopher’s, Fire, Goose Feathers, Gallery Espresso, and Sentient Bean.

Where did you get the inspiration and ideas for your details such as the vintage items and accessories? We adore the railroad museum and wanted to play up its look, tone, and vintage feel while keeping things pretty natural, so we stuck with shades of green, white, and the muted colors in air plants and succulents to accent the beautiful whitewashed brick and wood surfaces and grassy spaces. Keeping the look plant-based rather than floral felt right to us. Our Florist did an incredible job with the ceremony centerpieces, table arrangements, bouquet, and boutonniere, incorporating quirky things like green trick and purple fiddleheads. Beyond that, we just loosely embraced the vintage travel theme of the museum and then we added things like the vintage suitcases and ink jars. I customized a HelloLucky design to print menus that mimicked the look of those you’d find on old rail lines. The vintage geology books were already decorating our apartment, so I had to incorporate those as a finishing touch. Much of the ambience came from gorgeous cafe lighting–Edison bulbs strung in rows along the rafters–in the blacksmith shop, which is a space that has a lot of rustic elegance to begin with.

What gave you the idea to have the mint juleps and the basil gimlets? It was a very nice touch!  We liked the idea of offering a specific cocktail or two, and the mint juleps were a nod to the Southern backdrop. The basil gimlets were more personal. There was a restaurant in Cambridge called Casablanca that had been a fixture in Harvard Square for generations, and Jon and I used to frequent its bar, a hidden, coolly romantic space with an old-world vibe where we had our epic first date–and, years later, where he proposed. The drink to get was the basil gimlet, fresh and bright and a little dangerous. It was the taste of our early days together, just as the jukebox’s nostalgic offerings were a large part of our soundtrack. Casablanca recently closed, which saddened us both, and some of our guests were also very attached to the place, so including that cocktail at the wedding was a given.

How would you sum up your wedding experience? One of our priorities was to have a wedding that was guest-centric and intimate, where everyone felt included. We also wanted to avoid a stressful planning process, at least as much as possible, and to keep things simple. To that end, we dispensed with a bridal party, minimized the number of vendors we used and kept with local small businesses, managed music ourselves with playlists we created, wrote our short civil ceremony with our officiant (a close friend), and made use of the talent and generosity of friends and family members. We ended up with an amazing group of people whose joy just spilled over into every aspect of the wedding weekend. It was smooth and happy and full of love, start to finish–and to top things off, we couldn’t have dreamed up better weather!

It was an amazing day and Hilton Head offers many  opportunities for photos. The guys got ready over at the Marriot where the group had rented a spacious suiteand enjoyed casual photos around the lush property. After group photos, Shannon and Taha met in a secluded area of Palmetto Dunes for a private first look Then Shannon’s parents joined them for a few family photos. We then headed over to the Marriot Resort for their outdoor wedding ceremony overlooking the ocean. When we arrived to the ceremony site the wind had picked up and the temperature also seemed to drop. Taha and Shannon decided to go on with their plans. They immediately worked together on making a few quick decisions and decided to move forth with photos. Seeing them tackle these obstacles immediately made me think that if they could handle this so well, that anything else that comes there way will be handled with just as much ease and teamwork. They are awesome together and WOW, the entire group really knew how to celebrate. It was an evening of  dinner, drinks, The Blush Photo Booth, incredible toasts AND of course — Moroccan Music and dancing until late into the night! A special thanks to all the wonderful vendors that worked together on this event.

How did you meet? We met working together in a restaurant in DC and currently livethere. I’m returning to school in the fall after being in the hospitality management industry for 10 yrs. Taha is the Beverage Manager for Mike Isabella Concepts.

What made you decide to have your wedding in Hilton Head overlooking the beach? We knew we wanted the wedding outdoors and we both love the beach. Growing up in NJ, we vacationed in the Carolinas, Myrtle beach and HHI and my parents retired down in Bluffton, SC, which is why we ultimately picked HHI for the destination wedding.

What do you like most about the Hilton Head area? What are some of your favorite places to visit while you are here? The natural beauty of the area, the huge trees, Spanish moss, the beaches… Every time we visit we hit Mrs. Wilkes in Savannah for the amazing family style southern food.

Any planning obstacles with this being a destination wedding? Definitely,  our first florist didn’t work out, however, our deposit was returned and we found Maria at Kato Florist in Savannah who created the romantic atmosphere we were looking for. She did an amazing job, I was literally dancing around my mother’s kitchen when the delivery came, I couldn’t believe how beautiful they all looked, especially my bouquet with my grandmother’s cameo broach affixed to front.

Where did you get the inspiration/ideas for the details such as the color purple as an accent and the wedding sign?  I love the color purple. I wanted all ivory flowers for my bridesmaids so there was a nice contrast against the dark purple. I picked mostly ivory flowers with soft pink and green accents for flowers for my bouquets for a romantic, yet classic look.  My 17 yr old nephew Andrew made our wedding sign. We had talked a little about it, but ultimately left it up to him and his creative devices.

For Groom’s Attire, Taha has a lot of style and wanted to stand out. His groomsmen all wore the usual/traditional rented tuxes w/ white shirts for ease and convenience instead of buying suits.  Taha had his suit tailored to him at Suit Supply and instead of wearing a traditional white shirt he wore a shirt and tie with lavender and blue-grey tones.

Bride’s Moroccan clothes, shoes, purse and bracelet were all gifts from Taha’s family, especially his grandmother. Henna is common in a lot of cultures, Muslim, Hindu etc. Henna application is a celebratory tradition the night before the wedding. The night before the wedding the bride is adorned with henna, as well as the groom and any other women attending.

The 2 hairstyles, was that planned or due to weather? It was Planned. My sister Victoria owns “La Dolce V Salon” in New Jersey, so we knew there would be a hair change. I am really happy we went with up and then down, instead of vice-versa  with all the wind.

Accomodations:  Our Guests traveled in from: DC, New Jersey, Brooklyn, Mass, Casablanca, Morocco, Palm Beach, Fl, Ohio…We rented a beach condo for the week, since it was more affordable for our family than for everyone to stay  long term at a hotel.  We are planning another family celebration in Morocco next summer. For that, most of the planning will be done by mother in law, which is okay by me.  For a honeymoon we’re  plan to do a Greece-Turkey trip.

He learned songs we(my sister and I) requested and agreed to share the spotlight and sing with my sister Mary /DJ: James from All About You and our good friend Souheil brought the Moroccan music : ) All about You was super accommodating with requests, esp to allow a guest Dj – very cool!  /Wedding Gown: Vera Wang for DB Chantilly lace strapless column gown with train /shoes: Nia wedges/Hair/makeup: Wedding Planner: me, my mom and my sisters!Veil: Vera  Accessories: David’s Bridal / Bride’s Jewelry : bride’s earrings from RueLala /Bridesmaid’s dresses: JerseyMaid convertible dresses on Esty for around $80 ea / Bridesmaid’s Jewelry: Gave them free reign /Florist: Kato Floral Design in Savannah /Chairs/Chair Covers/Sashes: rented from Marriott /Cake: Delectable Designs in Savannah by Michelle Still /Video: “Life in Rewind” Pj Brown

Niki & Jon had a beautiful Spring Wedding in Pulaski Square. Wedding day coverage began over at The Ogelthorpe Lodge on Bay Street. The group rented the entire three story building and courtyard for their wedding party and guests also stayed at the adjacent hotel. We began with getting ready photos of the group then walked over to Reynold’s Square where the couple had a first look and spent a few moments alone taking photos before their ceremony. The wedding party had portraits and then took Ogelthorpe Trolleys over to Pulaski Square. Once again, it had been raining the day before but it ended up being the most perfect day for a wedding and everything was spectacular.  After the ceremony, we did family photos and bridal portraits in Pulaski Square then the entire group, including wedding guests then boarded the trolleys to go to the reception at Vic’s on The River.  Before entering the Reception, the wedding party  had additional photos on Factor’s walk. Once at Vic’s on The River, the night was kicked off with a Cocktail hour followed by  appetizers, dinner and dancing. After dinner, guests enjoyed The Blush Photo Booth, an ice cream bar from Leopold’s, line dancing lessons and a candy buffet. The night ended with a sparkler send off on Factor’s Walk.

Their Story: Jon and are high school sweethearts! We currently live in Fayetteville, NC. We both grew up in Hollywood, FL. Jon is an Airborne Infantry Sniper for the United States Army and I’m an Emergency Room Nurse. Jon has been in the Army for over three years. He has never been stationed in Savannah, but I always have my fingers crossed!  I fell in love with Savannah the first time we visited. It is just so beautiful! We chose Pulaski Square because I had always envisioned our wedding under giant oak trees, Pulaski square is filled with magnificent trees and surrounded by historic homes.

What do you like most about Savannah? Aside from the beauty of it, we love that you can walk around with a drink in your hand! Vic’s on the River is definitely my favorite place to eat. We love Moon River Brewing Co. and Churchill’s Pub as well.
Details & Inspiration:  Honestly, the majority of my inspiration came from Pinterest! I found a picture of a beautiful green and purple bouquet on Pinterest and used it for my color scheme. I even sent the photo to the florist and asked him to make my bridal bouquet identical to the photo. The burlap and lace was my idea 🙂 I thought it was a great way to combine country and classy. As for the cowboy boots, my parents got married in cowboy boots and I always knew I would!  The style of the  guys outfits were also a Pinterest inspiration. The signs were all made by my Aunt Lori, she is so unbelievably talented!
What made you want to have ice cream, the photo booth and line dancing as entertainment for your guests? My focus for this wedding was to make it a night nobody would forget. I knew the photo booth would be a hit! Regarding the ice cream, I feel a lot of cake gets wasted at weddings because people tend to be very picky abut what kind of cake they like…but everyone likes ice cream! We chose various flavors and toppings for the guests to choose from. I think the guests loved every flavor because we ran out of ice cream!  The Line dance instructor was sort of a last minute idea and it was a great one!
Any planning obstacles with this being a destination wedding? A few older family members were unable to make the long trip to the wedding but other than that we didn’t run into many obstacles. Everyone that we worked with in Savannah was so helpful!
Approximate planning time for wedding: A long time! About 18 months from start to finish.

Hillary and Will were married at the Savannah Roundhouse Railroad Museum. We began with photos of the bride getting ready and then moved into the garden area for the ceremony. Afterwards we took photos around the museum and then moved into the main area of the Roundhouse for the Reception. The entire venue offers open spaces with plenty of natural light. When I was posting these photos, it occurred to me that I always forget to post dance shots, its always so fun to take them, but always such a challenge to pick favorites for the blog, that I never get around to it! A special thanks to Hillary’s Father, Ron Caird and Tom Hamlin for their Guest Appearance and some incredible music! The wedding couple had a spectacular send off.  Cheerful guests escorted them to the entrance of the Museum where a Savannah Pedi Cab then whisked them away.

How did you meet? Will and I met while working together about eight years ago. We started out as friends and turned into a couple a little bit later.

What made you decide on the Rail Road Museum for your wedding? We wanted somewhere uniquely Savannah. The Railroad Museum was the perfect mixture of charm and history. We love the architecture and didn’t have to do much to jazz it up, as the space is beautiful!

Where did you get inspiration/ideas for the colors and unique accessories? Thank goodness for Pinterest!  We got a lot of inspiration and ideas from there. I am a big fan of crafting so we wanted to include a lot of personal touches like the banner and  the candy bar and our close friend Madeline was the officiant. My bridesmaids are all so different and have their own style, so they chose their own attire. I wanted to them to feel comfortable and love the dresses they were wearing. I loved that their dresses reflected their personalities! The boots (centerpieces) are a long running joke with Will’s family. There is an old expression “put your boots on” in times of stress or struggle- so there they were- our boots!

Approximate Planning Time: 13 months /# of Guests: 100+ /Officiant: Madeline Stanford /Ceremony Music: Vanessa Carlton, Home- processional  Swinging Medallions, Double Shot of My Baby’s Love- recessional /Band/DJ: Jeff Kaar, First City Events, Guest Appearances by Tom Hamlin / Ron Caird, The Elderly Brothers /Hair:  Hair- August Alderman, Color Geek Salon /Make-up: Angela Auito /Jewelry/ Bridal Accessories: all bridal accessories from Etsy. Hillary’s necklace was from Paganucci Designs by Cat Paganucci. Earrings were made from her grandmother’s diamond ring /Bridesmaid Dresses: Various /Florist: Two Sassy Ladies (Will’s Mother, Cheryl Bradbury and friend Vicki Doss) /Cake/Cupcakes: Carrie Briscoe at Two Fabulous Cakes- red velvet and cream cheese pound cakes /Transportation: Savannah Pedi-cab /Caterer: Creative Catering
Rentals: In Any Event /Guest Hotel Accommodations: Doubletree Historic District, Courtyard Marriott Historic District / Honeymoon: Punta Cana, Dominican Republic.
What do you like most about Savannah? We knew we wanted to get married here since this is where we met, fell in love and started our life together. Savannah is such a charming city, full of great people and great memories for us.
What are some local activities you recommend to guests/others? We had a karaoke after party at a favorite dive bar, Bay Street Blues. We also recommended our guests out Tybee Island, J. Christopher’s for brunch and grab some candy from River Street Sweets!

We began the day by meeting Yuliya and Angel along with their wedding party at The Ogelthorpe Lodge. The couple reserved the first and second floor of the lodges which are historic cottages that have a perfect location downtown, facing Factor’s Walk and Bay Street. We then went to St. Paul’s Greek Orthodox Church for the couple’s candlelight ceremony.  After grouup photos in Reynold’s Square, we then took additional photos at The Olde Pink House which was the Reception Venue for this wedding.  For many couples Savannah is a destination, but for Yuliya and Angel, Savannah is home, so they will get reflect on their wedding day whenever they drive by their locations. Angel is a Detective for Savannah Chatham Metro Police and Yuliya is originally from Belarus. Yuliya’s family members in Belarus were able to view the wedding as it unfolded via live feed organized by Yuliya’s mother. It was a wonderful to photograph this couple as they enjoyed their special day. Best wishes to them!

Olde Pink House wedding-004

What made you choose The Old Pink House and Savannah as the location for your wedding? We fell in love with the building and the ballroom. It was romantic and so beautiful, that we no longer wanted to look for anything else and the food is absolutely phenomenal.

Any planning advice for future brides?  Do all of the planning well in advance because times passes quickly. The internet has an amazing variety for accesories and details. And etsy.com is awesome. For our rehearsal dinner we kept everything simple. We had pizza and wine and it was perfect! The last thing you want to do is stress before the wedding day. We were so happy on our wedding day and everything was perfect we just want to thank everyone that made the details come to life.

Upon completing photos around Factor’s Walk and the Bay street area, the couple then joined their friends and family for a reception at Vic’s on The River. What made you choose Savannah as the location for your wedding?
I visited Savannah with my parents and fell in love with the charm, quaintness, and beauty of the southern city. My husband loved the open container law and the fun the historic city had to offer, so it was an easy choice!

Where did you find inspiration and ideas for your colors and accessories?
Pinterest, Martha Stewart, the knot, and other wedding websites and magazines
Any planning advice for future brides?
Organization is absolutley key, as well as getting as many things done ahead of time as humanly possible. You can never spend enough time with your family the weekend of your wedding, so talk to all of your vendors ahead of time, print email conversations, and have all of their contact information on hand.

Were there any other activities that you planned for guests that you recommend?
Our Rehearsal Dinner at Belfords was excellent!

Deborah and Sean had a romantic and secluded outdoor ceremony at the Savannah Botanical Gardens. The bridal party got ready at the Reinhard Farmhouse, situated at the front entrance to the garden. The farmhouse was actually built in 1840 and then relocated to the property. The home is charming and the upstairs rooms have wood plank walls and dark hardwood floors that combined with natural sunlight to create a wonderful backdrop for bridal portraits. The couple then wed at the fountain in the center of the rose garden which was in full bloom. Sean’s father played acoustic guitar and Deborah’s grandfather, Dell performed the ceremony. Sean is from Dublin, Ireland and his friends and family along with several members of the wedding party traveled to Savannah for the wedding. Deborah’s family traveled from Tennessee and Minnesota. The couple celebrated with a Reception at Cha Bella and received a sparkler send off. Afterwards, they honeymooned in the Dominican Republic.

How were you able to make your wedding  come together so flawlessly in such a short time?

I am a procrastinator, however, I did start with booking the three most important parts that I thought intricate to the wedding: ceremony site, photographer and reception location. I bought my dress around that time as well. I was the wedding coordinator & loved it!”  My inspirations came from pinterest, Etsy & DIY Wedding Magazines.  A lot of my stuff was DIY.  I started with making my own Save-the-Dates to invites & expanded from there.  I enjoy creative and the process of design. For instance my wishing tree came about by using a vase I owned, finding a limb off the ground & hot glueing butterflies. -it was fun.”

I am clearly obsessed with ruffles. My dress had ruffles along with the bridesmaids’ dresses & the cake. She found a picture of the cake on pinterest. I was so in love that I had Michelle Still copy it – exactly!  The first tier had a banana cake with caramel buttercream filling & the second tier had chocolate cake with orange creme filling. My veil was my “something borrowed” and I made the headband sash. “The favor boxes were my creation too. I wanted to assign seats, but I didn’t have enough time while trying to keep a budget to make a separate seating chart.” She decided to incorporate seating into the favor boxes by adding guests’ names to them. Deborah bought black boxes, ribbon and decor which she stamped on cross stitch fabric. Each box contained pecan pralines.

The rest of my planning fell into place the last 3-4 months, some things even came together at the last minute. We didn’t book our DJ until a month out (Jeff Brown at All About you Entertainment) and he was so patient with us. We  didn’t even give him our music list until 2 days prior and everyone loved the selections! ” Everything for their special day came together perfectly. Deborah added, “The Blush Photography Booth was BRILLIANT!! All of my guests enjoyed laughing and dressing up in props!”

 Any advice for future brides?
“To have the perfect wedding-Be Nice! Service industries are just that, performing a service, so people involved are helping you & no one wants to help someone throwing a tantrum or being a “Bridezilla.” Deborah added, ” I know I had the perfect wedding, which was hands down owed to attitude internally and towards others!”

I am excited to share the wedding day of Kim and Randy. Their day began at the Marmaduke House on Ogelthorpe Avenue. This spacious period home provided plenty of natural light for the couple’s getting ready photos. Kim and Randy chose the Whitefield Chapel at the Bethesda School for Boys as their ceremony location. Perfectly situated near The Moon River, the property is known for its historic chapel and majestic tree lined entrance. The Chapel is timeless and can be easily personalized. Kim and Randy had a double ring ceremony with Reverend Steven Schulte and Randy now wears  his grandfather’s wedding ring as his own. The Reception at 10 Downing was decorated with family photos that were placed on one of the mantels.  Kim’s grandparents were avid gardeners, so she used their canning jars at the reception to hold adorable wildflower bouquets. Kim and Randy are two of the nicest people we have ever met and we were so honored to spend the day with  them and their family.  The rain even held off so we were able to take scenic shots at Bethesda and then guests were able to use the new Blush photo booth out on Churchill’s roof terrace.
