We have loved each and every wedding at Oldfield Plantation. Just had to share this gorgeous sunset wedding. The bride, Janel was radiant in her blush tone wedding gown. Janel & Austin said their wedding vows in a romantic ceremony as the sun set behind them. The backdrop and warm colors that we captured as the sun set were amazing and I loved the blue accents in the wedding party attire. The Oldfield Plantation River Club is a private location for weddings and its always a treat to go there!

On the blog today we have Tasha & Brandon’s beautiful Wedding. Both the bride and groom are from Minnesota and flew into Savannah along with their family and friends to celebrate their intimate destination wedding. The wedding ceremony which was officiated by Reverend Schulte, took place in the Forsyth Garden. Afterwards the ceremony, there was a champagne toast on the balcony of the charming Forsyth Inn, which overlooks Forsyth Park. The couple and their guests had rented the Inn for the wedding. We then took a group portrait and photos of the bride, groom, family and friends at the Forsyth Inn, The Forsyth Park Fountain and we also traveled to Monterey Square. After portraits commenced, the couple and their guests then took a carriage ride throughout historic Savannah before going to their wedding reception. They celebrated with a reception dinner at The Olde Pink House, located in Reynold’s Square.

Ima & Jason live in Atlanta and came to Savannah to wed at The Unitarian Church in Troup Square. Ima got ready at the Westin on Bay St and Jason got ready at The Hamilton-Turner House in Historic Savannah. We did Bridal Portraits for Ima in Lafayette Square and Portraits of Jason in the Hamliton-Turner House which is a local Inn on Lafayette Square that was recently renovated. It is a gorgeous space with vibrant colors and plenty of windows to let in natural light.  The couple then had a first look in Lafayette Square which was where we also decided to do some pre-wedding portraits with their immediate family. Afterwards, the couple walked to their church for their ceremony witnessed by their friends, family and bridal party. After the Ceremony, the couple took more photos with extended family in Troup Square. It was a beautiful day for a wedding in downtown Savannah for this couple who is so much in love. Ima is a make up artist and model in Atlanta where she and Jason live. Jason’s family has a home in Hilton Head, so many came from South Carolina and local areas to attend the wedding. Ima’s family lives in Atlanta and some members of her family even traveled from as far as Persia to attend the wedding weekend in Savannah and their wedding reception at The Westin.

Quinney Oaks Plantation in Millen, Georgia was the beautiful venue for the wedding of Elizabeth and Mark. The plantation itself is not very far from Savannah and is situated on a sprawling hillside, surrounded by an apple orchard and beautiful gardens. Elizabeth and Mark were an amazing couple to work with and are so perfect together. The entire month of March and April seems to have had so much more rain than usual and this wedding was almost delayed due to the weather. This decisive couple decided to move forward and the weather ended up cooperating. It turned out to be a wonderful day for a Southern Wedding! The outdoor garden ceremony was officiated by a close family friend and part of the ceremony included a bible signing. Afterwards, the couple celebrated their wedding day with over  300 guests. A cocktail hour was then followed by dinner, dancing with a live band and several toasts by family and members of the wedding party. It was truly an honor to meet and to work with this lovely local family from the Savannah-Pooler area!

I had gone to visit Mark for the weekend in Waynesboro, GA and it was a really cold weekend. They had called for snow, but we all thought there was no way that was going to happen in South Georgia. Little did we know that when we woke up the next morning we would wake up to snow covered all over the ground and cars. Mark surprised me by having his brother and sister in law run outside and write “Will you Marry me?” on the back windshield of my car. I was still inside trying to make coffee when Marks brother Chad came running in the house and said OMG Elizabeth a huge tree limb feel on your car and messed it up come outside and look. I was still not even thinking about what was going on…and when I walked outside there wasn’t a limb on top of my car instead there was Mark on one knee next to my car with my ring in one hand and a coffee cup that said Future Mrs. Smith on it. IT was a magical day that I will never forget.

What were the deciding factors for you Ceremony and reception location? I had never wanted to get married in a church and had always wanted an outside wedding.

Where did you get the inspiration/ideas for the details? I knew I did not want a white dress…I wanted an ivory dress. My dress actually is a Merlot color (according to the tag) I loved my dress. I purchased it from J ’adore Bridal in Brooklet, GA. I had seen on Pinterest a board of pinks and greens and feel in love with the color scheme so I decided to use that.Mr. Bill Lively is a close family friend of Mark’s family and we thought it was perfect asking him to marry us since he has seen mine and Marks relationship grow.

What made you select Quinney Oaks Plantation as your Venue? Quinney Oaks is actually owned by a friend of Mark’s from when he was growing up. Coincidentally, the owner is also a sorority sister of mine. She had advertised her parents home on Facebook and I fell in love with the plantation home and venue immediately. Mark had already been to the house several times growing up and loved it as well. It is also close Waynesboro, GA,  where Mark and I will be calling home.

Any advice to other couples who are in the process of planning their wedding? ALWAYS have a plan B if it calls for RAIN!!!

I just love the natural light at Wormsloe. Its an amazing experience every time I do photography there. Alexandra and I emailed for a while before the couple selected Wormsloe Plantation as the location for their Engagement Portraits.  Michael is an officer and is stationed at a nearby military base and Savannah is the perfect little getaway location for this engaged couple who lives miles apart for the time being. Alexandra and Michael are perfect together and  it was amazing to meet them and to spend this session capturing their love.

Tell us about yourselves. We met when I was a Freshman and Michael was a Sophomore at St. John’s University. We were both at the local college bar, Traditions, anden I went up to Michael and said, “You’re cute!” The rest is history and we’ve now been together for more than 5 years.

I am originally from Troy, NY and I now live in Queens, NY. I work in Human Resources at a financial company in Manhattan. Michael is originally from West Islip, NY and he now lives in Savannah, GA. He is an Infantry Officer in the United States Army. What Hobbies do you enjoy together?  Michael and I don’t get to spend a lot of time together, since I live in New York and he lives in Georgia, but when we are together we like to drink margaritas, go mini-golfing, and catch up on Impractical Jokers, our favorite tv show.

Plans for wedding location? We are planning on getting married in 2018, when Michael is out of the Army. We’d like to get married in Saratoga, NY, which is near my hometown.

What made you select Wormsloe as the location for your Engagement session? Our Engagement Photographer, Nikki, recommended Wormsloe as one possible location for engagement portraits. When we saw pictures, we absolutely fell in love. Our favorite thing about the location was all the trees with the Spanish moss. It was a perfect day to take pictures and we left feeling so happy that we chose Wormsloe.   What do you like most about Savannah? How does it compare to other places that you have lived/visited? The thing I love most about Savannah are the trees with the Spanish moss. They are so beautiful to me and when I first visited, I fell in love, so we had to have the pictures taken at Wormsloe!

What is your favorite place/activity here?  We’ve visited Savannah quite a lot since Michael has moved there, so we have done many things around town. Our favorite thing to do is go on the haunted tours. We also love learning about all of Savannah’s history. After our engagement portraits, we went to our favorite restaurant, Tequila Town. Two of my friends came to Savannah with me that weekend, so they met us there along with Michael’s roommates. It was a great last day in Savannah. It is one of our favorite places to dine in Savannah. Michael and I also really enjoy Savannah’s open container policy. Its very different from New York!

Favorite local places to dine or shop? We also love Clary’s Café for breakfast. That weekend we also went on a haunted pub crawl with our friends. Michael and I have done one before, so it was really fun to bring our friends this time!

We were delighted to be invited to be a part of the first Revolution Wedding Tours held here in Savannah!

Wedding tours are a hip new wedding show concept where engaged couples can go on a tour of four different Savannah Wedding Venues. Each wedding location showcases a different event planning-reception design concept. The tour gives guests a behind-the-scenes peek at their vendors and provides tons of fresh ideas for engaged couples to create the wedding day of their dreams.

In Savannah, the Wedding Tour stopped at four Savannah Venues: Red Gate Farms, The GingerBread House, Brockington Hall and then finished with a grand finale party at the Mackey House. We  were excited to be the wedding photographers at Red Gate Farms because we knew we would enjoy the majestic oak trees combined with the gorgeous barn and so many opportunities for artistic, natural light photography!

On the Revolution Wedding Tours, each wedding venue featured complimentary tastings with these wedding caterers in Vegas – award winning professionals, complete floral and tablescape designs, artistic photography, stunning wedding gowns and menswear, custom wedding cakes and fantastic entertainment. Guests had a chance to see, feel and taste the talent our vendors can provide through the presentation of four uniquely different wedding exhibits. It was extremely cold and windy ( and from the photos you can see that our models were huddling to stay warm ) but the day came still together perfectly!

Jake and I met 7 years ago at work in Boston (Pioneer Investments). It was our first job out of college and we were working in their customer service department, so we bonded over how awful our job was. We’re both from the Boston area and work in the financial services industry. We have a cat named Penny and we live together in Salem Mass. We enjoy going out to dinner, going to the movies, traveling, golfing and just relaxing at home.

Jake, tell us about your proposal: Casey’s family rented a house on Block Island for a week in July 2014. It was the two of us, Casey’s parents, and her two sisters with their (now) husbands. I was the last one to pop the question so it took some effort to make it a surprise. I was lucky enough to drive down with Casey’s parents and was able to ask both for their permission and have a good long talk about the importance of marriage and what they would do to me if I screwed it up (no pressure). I got the ring the night before and left it with Casey’s sister’s husband Mike to avoid getting discovered. I spent the first part of the week scouting out locations, and finally found the perfect secluded spot on the bluffs overlooking the ocean. Her whole family was a great help in disguising my plan, so I was able to get some champagne, orange juice and ice into the car and asked Casey if she wanted to go for an early morning drive to get breakfast. Before we got to breakfast I pulled over to the previously scouted spot on the side of the road and got out. I proposed to her at the top of the look point point at the bluffs and it was a really special moment. It was a great opportunity to get even closer as a family because everyone was involved, and I’ll forever be appreciative of everyone’s help in making that day so special.

What were the deciding factors for you Ceremony location of the Fountain? We wanted to be able to show our wedding guests all of the different aspects of what Savannah has to offer and we thought that the fountain would be such a beautiful backdrop for our ceremony. We also loved everything about the Mansion and having our reception in such close proximity made perfect sense.

Tell us about your Wedding official. Our wedding officiant’s name is Steve Clough and he is one of Jake’s cousins. When trying to find an officiant, we decided that we wanted to make the ceremony more personal by asking someone who knew us both well. Steve is very well spoken, has a great sense of humor and we thought he would be the perfect choice. Luckily, he made us look good!

Casey, Where did you get the inspiration/ideas for the details? Your colors, champagne tone for wedding gown? Accents, Decor, Details? My sisters Rory and Grace and my mom were all extremely helpful when I was planning my wedding so I really got most of my inspiration from them. My Dad also had a great idea to give out copies of Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil to the wedding guests as a memento of Savannah so the entire planning of the wedding was really a family effort. My mom specifically has an incredible eye for all of the small details that made the ballroom look so stunning, like chairs, uplighting, chargers and table cloths. With regard to the dress, my sister Rory actually found it hanging in the bridal salon and brought it over to me, and said I think that you should try this one on. Once I tried it on, we all thought that it was just so stunning and that it would look perfect in Savannah.

What made you select Savannah and the & Forsyth Mansion for your Venue? We had visited Savannah only once before we decided to get married there, but when we had travelled there, we really fell in love with the city. We loved how romantic it felt, how nice and authentic the people that live there are, and we thought it would be a really exciting place for our guests to travel to. Savannah is a place that everybody wants to go, but we were surprised at how few of our guests had ever been. Our guests had such a great time and were so appreciative of the experience.

Any advice to other couples who are in the process of planning their wedding? I would say that, although it’s easy for me to say this now, try not to sweat the small things. There are always things that aren’t going to go exactly as you’ve planned, but at the end of the day, all that matters is that you’re surrounded by people who love you and you will still have the best day of your life, regardless of whether things don’t work out perfectly.

Please List Any Activities or places your guests visited/enjoyed during the week of your event: Welcome Party the night before the wedding at B&D Burger, golfing at the Westin, Tybee Island, drinks on the roof deck at the Bohemian Hotel. We also had an ice cream truck at the end of the night which was a huge hit. We also scheduled trolley tours for the guests between the ceremony and cocktail hour so we didn’t have to miss the cocktail hour for pictures. After party at Casimir’s Lounge at the Mansion. Also, the glow sticks were a really big hit as well, people got very creative with how to wear them and even ended up using the longer sticks for limbo! Last detail, we had a cigar roller during the reception and people were able to smoke their hand rolled cigars in the marble courtyard.

It was an amazing day for Elizabeth & Alan’s Wedding at The Hilton Head Lakes. We first began with getting ready photos of the bridal party, then headed over to The Lord of Life Lutheran Church for their beautiful wedding ceremony. Afterwards, we then headed back to their reception at The Lakes Club which is a newer Wedding Venue located in the Hilton Head/Bluffton Area. Elizabeth and Alan kicked the evening off with cocktails then dinner, toasts and wedding cake followed by a Smore’s Bar and a Sparkler send off! We enjoyed our time with Elizabeth and Alan and were thrilled to be involved in their very happy occasion!Hilton Head Lakes Wedding Photographer Savannah-11

How did you meet?In 2006, I wrote a random late night email on Myspace to a boy who looked like no one I had seen or met in Savannah. I didn’t know what to expect. A few days later, he replied. We exchanged a few emails and it took off from there. What would you like to share about yourselves? We are so happy to call Savannah our home. Ogun is originally from the island of Cyprus and I was born and raised in Rochester, NY. Nothing makes us happier than to eat exotic food, enjoy a craft beer, and explore new places. Savannah is so picturesque and makes it a perfect place to enjoy these simple pleasures. We both work from home and are developing businesses on the side so we are fortunate enough to have the flexibility to explore and enjoy Savannah daily.
Tell us about your proposal: Ogun was living in Atlanta and I was living in Savannah when he proposed. I got home one night and was greeted by my sister who was behaving strangely. Soon after, she opened the door and there was Ogun with a guitar and he started singing to me. After, he got on one knee and proposed. He later told me the adventure he experienced to get to Savannah on time. He literally ran through the Atlanta airport to catch his flight and had help from a local friend to buy the perfect ring and the guitar. It was very surreal and so sweet and sincere.

What were the deciding factors for your Ceremony location? I have always loved historic buildings so having the ceremony in historic place was a natural choice. The Kennedy Pharmacy was perfect choice for an intimate ceremony.

Where did you get the inspiration/ideas for the details? Your colors, wedding gown? Accents, Decor, Details? The colors and the theme were inspired by an Alphonse Mucha painting. It was a perfect blend of colors and had small touches of the Mediterranean. I chose salmon, aqua, gold as my main colors and balanced them with greenery and brown from the grave vines. I also wanted to incorporate the Mediterranean theme with my wedding dress. I chose to have a simple gown with intricate details on the bodice and a drop veil and hair piece to tie in the Mediterranean theme.

What made you select Savannah and & The Distillery for your Venue? We both love craft beer and Ogun is a home brewer so we wanted a place with great beer! We also wanted an intimate setting and a place that had all of the beautiful historic features like exposed bricks and wood floors. Ogun and I were also big fans of their southern wings and burgers! We also wanted a space where we could have a DJ and dance area. Dancing is huge in both our cultures and is a major part of our celebrations.

Any advice to other couples who are in the process of planning their wedding? My main goal was to make sure that everyone enjoyed themselves. Always consider your guests but don’t obsess. The best part of getting married is being able to tell your story and show your personalities. The personalized details make it a special and memorable experience for guests. If you are able hire an event planner, do it. It is worth the expense to be able to enjoy the special moments.

I enjoyed meeting Tonya & TJ for their intimate wedding at the Kehoe House of Savannah. We began with getting ready photos at the mansion and then the ceremony was held on the balcony.  Afterwards, we went into the lush gardens of Columbia Square and then took photos overlooking the fountain and The Davenport House. I just loved their bright pops of color and the navy accents that they chose to mix in.  It was an amazing day for and perfect in every way for this perfect couple!

How did you and TJ meet? Destiny..our paths had crossed for many years, but we never were introduced. Last year, TJ created a facebook account solely for outreach in the Christian community. He added some friends where he had trained at for his schooling. Those friends of his were also mutual friends of mine because I worked at one of the hospitals he trained at. I sent a friend request and he accepted. When I posted a picture of my youngest daughter being baptized he “liked” it, and a few days later sent a message asking about work at the hospital, and it was a whirlwind romance from there. Neither one of us were looking for a relationship, but God knew what we needed in life, and from a partner. Once he met my children, and we realized how God was working for us to become a family, we prayed for His guidance and let Him lead our next steps. I am a Registered Nurse in a small Western North Carolina Community. Once TJ and I were engaged we decided to stay in the small town, and he would commute for work as a Nurse Anesthetist. A couple months later, God opened the door at the small hospital I work in, for a CRNA position. Neither one of us saw that coming, but God knows what He is doing. He accepted the position after our praying for guidance, and he is also now employed at the same hospital as I. Most of our activities are family oriented and centered around home life. We enjoy attending church, going for walks, traveling, spending time with family, attending my oldest daughter’s sports (she’s a baller), and while I am not doing school work ( finishing my BSN (May 2016 pending graduation)), just enjoying downtime with one another. We love just hanging out with one another. Simple as that. We enjoy the mountains of NC. The Blue Ridge Parkway is one of our favorite places to be. Beautiful views with God-made scenery.

Tell us about your proposal: Tj had made several attempts to get back to the Parkway to ask, being this is where we spent most of our time getting to know one another, but timing never played out. Finally, one Sunday afternoon, TJ took me back to where we first met. He wanted me to get out of the vehicle, but I insisted that I would melt, and my hair would get frizzy because it was starting to drizzle outside. He knew that I was not going to get out of the vehicle so, he went ahead with his plan. He started reading scripture from the bible about love and devotion, and proceeded to get ring from his pocket. Simple, but the happiest moment of my life..of course, I said yes!!

What were the deciding factors for your Ceremony location? After researching many places to have our ceremony, we finally decided on Savannah. This was an area neither of us had ever visited, but the pictures of Savannah were gorgeous. We wanted to make new memories for us. We looked at many places in the area for the ceremony, and finally settled on The Kehoe House. We loved the fact we could get married on the veranda at the Kehoe House.

Where did you get the inspiration/ideas for the details? Your colors, wedding gown? I wanted a gown that was simple, yet took his breath away. I found accenting with the coral and pink bouquet made by Julie from “Garden on the Square” was perfect. We decided on a classic look for TJ with a navy suit and tie, and a pop of color from an orange ranunculus boutonniere. Every time I tell Tj I love him, he always says, “more”. So when I saw the cake topper I knew we had to have it. We also had the WillowTree Promise Cake Topper. This was to signify holding dear the promise of love. Any advice to other couples who are in the process of planning their wedding? Take your time planning, but do not become stressed over things. Things on “your” day are for sure not to go as planned, but do not lose focus of the bigger picture of what is about to transpire. Make sure your day is what makes you happy together as a couple. For TJ and I, it was eloping in a small, quaint ceremony, where we promised our love to one another. Just follow your own heart and dreams, and not what everyone else’s ideas of what would be wonderful. Make sure your day is stress free and full of lots of love, laughter, and happiness. Also, making sure to have a wonderful photographer to capture those moments to share your memories with others

Approximate # of Guests: Guests were my best friend from nursing school and her fiancé, Wedding Gown: ivory satin strapless trumpet dress with an ivory beaded sash – simple, yet elegant, and I felt like princess!! Shoes: Badgely Mischka Jazmin / Hair: /Makeup: Hair and makeup was by Royal Makeup & Hair; Michelle Royal Wedding Official: Darrin Dodd Handwritten vows Florist: Julie Driscoll – Garden on the Square

Anything else you would like to add? You should always allow God to direct your steps. He can allow beautiful things to come to fruition when you are least expecting it. TJ and I both feel God took His time before he introduced us to one another. He knew what place we both had to be in to be able to appreciate the love that we have for one another. We truly feel we have met our “destined” life partner. When God is in the middle of it, there is nothing that could be more beautiful.

How did you and Corbin meet? What would you like to share about yourselves? Corbin and I (are both teachers. He teaches high school special education and I teach elementary school. Our careers are a huge part of our lives, so we really connected over that commonality. In our limited free time, we enjoy exploring the Hilton Head and Bluffton area, refinishing furniture, and renovating our new house!
Tell us about your proposal: Corbin proposed in Savannah, Georgia. We took a beautiful carriage ride through the historic district and he proposed in Orleans Square. As he tells the story, “It was perfect October evening in the beautiful city of Savannah, Georgia. There was a light breeze in the air, and not a cloud in sight. It was the perfect evening for a carriage ride through the city. We arrived at our carriage at about 6 o’clock, and I immediately thought that Alissa had it all figured out. The carriage had white flowers all over it, and the driver handed Alissa roses when we boarded. She looked at me and simply asked, ” Did you do this?” I replied with a smile and a “Yes”, and we were on our way. As the carriage lazily meandered through the streets, I thought the ring was going to burn a hole in my pocket. Finally, we arrived at Orleans Square. The driver stopped the carriage, told us a brief love story about the fountain. Legend has it that the fountain was a spot where two lovers could make a wish, and have it come true by tossing a coin into the fountain. The driver then invited us to make a wish in the fountain.
We hopped out of the carriage and walked to the fountain. I pulled a coin out of my pocket, and gave it to Alissa to make a wish. After some resistance and a little persuasion, she agreed to do so. After she tossed her coin in, I pulled the ring from my pocket and took a knee. I told her, “I only have one wish in this world, and this fountain can’t give it to me. Alissa Kozulis will you marry me?” To which she replied with a look of shock and surprise, three “Shut-Ups!”, and an eventual “Yes!” It was one of the best days of my life.

What were the deciding factors for your Ceremony and Venue location? I tried to go into searching for a venue with an open mind. But, the Westin was what I really had my heart set on before we even began! My family had vacationed at the resort a handful of times and really enjoyed it. Additionally, when I moved to the Hilton Head area a couple years ago, my mom and I had stayed at the Westin as I was looking for an apartment and beginning my first year of teaching. I had a special connection to the hotel, and couldn’t imagine getting married anywhere else!

Additionally, the event planners at The Westin Resort and Spa Hilton Head Island were excellent! Throughout the entire process, they were easy to communicate with, did a great job handling the vendors, and set up the ceremony and reception beautifully!

Where did you get the inspiration/ideas for your wedding details? Inspiration for the details came from many different wedding magazines and blogs. The “colors” were chosen with the ocean backdrop in mind. I knew that pictures would be taken on the beach, and the reception location overlooked the ocean, so I wanted the wedding colors to complement the natural beauty of the water. I was looking for something rustic with elegant details. We used burlap, lace and wooden elements, complemented by rich metallic accents and candle light. Full flower arrangements with flowers that were different shades of pinks and corals really pulled the entire look together!

Tell us about yourselves. How did you meet? We met in college. Both of us came from out of state to Austin, Texas for school. Rayce was a music major and played at almost every school function. I probably got caught starring at him a few too many times and one night he approached me after playing.

How did you choose your dress for the session? My gold dress is by Gianni Bini which I bought at Dillard’s totally as a last minute outfit for pictures. Neither of us actually knew what to wear and Rayce forgot his belt and tie that he was suppose to wear for those photos. But I couldn’t be more happy with the way they all turned out.

Tell us about your ring!!! SO unique and pretty!  My ring is so special and I had no idea Rayce was going to do the sapphire. I had mentioned to him before that I had wanted a unique ring and I’m so glad he remembered. The sapphire represents both of our birthstones and its also the month that we met. It probably would have been the month he proposed but being military we never really know till the last minute when we will get to see each other again ( and August was close enough).

Plans for wedding location? Our wedding is in May and will be in New York. We could not be more excited!

What made you select the Northern end of Tybee Beach as the location for your Engagement session? What did you like the most about the location?  I chose the north side mostly because of the lighthouse. Once there I was so excited at all the possiblities and the rather empty beaches. It was completely perfect.

We could not have had a more beautiful day for Emma & Joe’s Elopement. I’m so excited to share their wedding ceremony which was in front of the Forsyth Fountain. Joe wore his grandfather’s suit and Emma wore a cicada barrette which was her mother’s along with antique wedding rings from Joe’s Grandmother. It was an amazing, bright spring day for photos.  This couple has such vintage style and we had a wonderful time just enjoying the weather and taking photos all around Forsyth Park.

I enjoy covering intimate weddings just as much as larger weddings. At the end of the day its all about two people coming together and private elopement ceremonies are so special! Diana & Jim are both chefs from North Carolina who selected Savannah as their wedding ceremony location. They had a romantic fireside ceremony in the main parlor of The Gastonian. This Inn is one of my favorite places and its so charming in the evening. We began with photos around the inn, followed by the couple’s wedding ceremony, officiated by Reverend Schulte. We then took a few more photos around the premises and then the couple even went outside for some night time photography in Gastonian’s garden. After photos, the went for a celebration dinner at Local 11 Ten, which is always an amazing, fine dining experience.

I had such a fun time with Zana & Denis at the Gastonian. They eloped to Savannah!!! Their ceremony with Reverend Schulte was romantic in every way. The day was sunny and warm for their beautiful winter wedding. We began with photos in the courtyard area of the Gastonian, then worked our way around the property, taking portraits of the couple at various locations at the Gastonian. I always recommend staying at the Historic Inns of Savannah.  Each time I am in one, its like stepping back in time and I always find myself in awe and trying to imagine what it must have been like to live in Savannah so long ago.  The grand porches, gardens and balconies are simply amazing and provided so many wonderful back drops for their wedding photos. Zana and Denis especially loved the front of the historic mansion and their view of Gaston Street. The street is lined with live oaks that are draped in Spanish moss and it was so charming for portraits. After their photos, the bride and groom enjoyed a celebration dinner at Garbaldi’s, located in City Market. They spent time the rest of the week in Savannah, then traveled to New Orleans before returning their home in Raleigh, North Carolina. Congratulations to this beautiful couple!

How did you meet?  About 6 years ago, we met through my friend who was sitting next to Denis during a flight to Yugoslavia.  Just knowing that we are from the same country helped us feel instantly connected. We had some tough time when Denis’s job moved to Boston area, but obviously, we managed to get over that obstacle. We fly alot for now, but we hope to live in one house very soon.

What activities do you enjoy doing together? Denis loves road biking, and Zana is all about tennis.

What made you decide to have your wedding ceremony at The Gastonian? Initially we planed to get married in Charlston, but thanks to Google, The Gastonian won and the rest is history. The team at the Gastonian was extremelly helpful and proffesional from the first day and we are actually very happy we chose them to be part of our special day!

Where did you get the inspiration/ideas for the details? Red is my favorite color and it just fit so well into Christmas time!

Any planning obstacles? Just one, we had to drive from Raleigh to Savanah in one day so that we could obtain our marriage licence on time
Shoes: I actually had them had them in my closet..they were waiting the perfect moment!

Heather and David had a beautiful Winter Wedding in Lafyette Square. I met the bride and her bridesmaids over at JW salon then we walked over to the Marshall House for additional getting ready photos. After getting dressed, Heather and David had a first look on the amazing balcony of the Marshall House which overlooks Broughton Street. The Bride and her father then went over to Lafayette Square by horse and carriage and the couple was married in front of the Lafayette Fountain. The Square is important to them because it was also were they were engaged the year before. Afterwards,  guests made well wishes for the couple and tossed pennies into the fountain. Everyone then headed back to the Marshall House for cocktails, dinner, dessert and celebration. Best wishes to this amazing  couple!

We then headed over to their lovely wedding ceremony in Orleans Square.  The bride arrived by horse and carriage and the bridesmaids were transported by pedicabs. After the wedding, the couple shared a scenic ride through Jones Street, Forsyth Park and the Historic Squares of Savannah..  It allowed them some time to relax and created many unique photo opportunities! This thoughtful couple’s attention to detail and focus on their guests made this event even more special.  We loved  everything about this wedding and were so excited to be one of the first photographers to be invited to work at the Cotton Sail Hotel, which is one of Savannah’s newest wedding venues. Above all, we were  most delighted to meet and work with Julia and Chad! Congratulations to this happy couple!

We began with Madison and Mike’s getting ready photos then photographed the garden ceremony which was overlooking the golf course. Afterwards, there were family and group photos, then a bit of alone time with the couple at sunset before returning to the reception. The reception was such a happy occasion filled with celebration and beautiful toasts to the newlyweds. The evening was kicked off with a cocktail hour followed by appetizers, dinner and dessert. All the while the Blush Photo Booth entertained guests with fun props! At the end of the night guests gathered to bid farewell to the couple with a sparkler send off.  We really enjoyed our time with this group and we are so happy for Madison & Mike!

We love how one weekend we can be covering a destination wedding and making new friends and then the next weekend we are covering the wedding of families that we have worked with before!  Sophie & Colby are from the Savannah area and we first met them last spring at Sophie’s brother’s wedding. We were so excited when they told us they were getting married!  We began with the bride’s getting ready photos, then a first look shoot for the couple, as well as one for Sophie and her father Simon. This was  followed by the wedding ceremony under the old tree overlooking the pasture that symbloizes Woodlawn Plantation. Sophie & Colby’s adorable son, Reid, was the best man in the wedding. Afterwards we took group photos and family portraits, then together portraits of Sophie & Colby at sunset. They had a perfect day and were all so excited to be the first wedding to use the newly constructed barn structure for the reception. The soft blue color palette with pops of bright green as an accent color combined with the hanging mason jar lights were a fantastic compliment to the rustic barnyard setting. Last week, Jason and I were so delighted to find out that Sophie and Colby bought a home in Guyton! I know Reid is going to love living in the country! Sophie and Colby are the sweetest couple and  we wish them a lifetime of Happily Ever Afters!!!

Nancy and I had been speaking back and forth before the wedding and  and I was so excited to finally meet her! We met at Sea Pines and began with getting ready photographs at the home where Nancy and her family were getting ready. Everyone then went Alder Lane for their beach ceremony.  Afterwards there  was a garden reception at The Sea Pines Golf Resort. As guests dined they had the most scenic view of the golf course and a lagoon. The weather was perfect for the entire day  and guests watched a sunset and even saw one very inquisitive (baby) alligator swimming around in the lagoon. Nancy & Josh are so happy and definitely enjoyed spending time with their close knit group of family and friends who came from near and far to celebrate! Congratulations to this  wonderful couple!

Samantha and Jason had an extraordinary wedding day. Belfair has the most amazing live oak entrance and so we opted to photograph the wedding party there. Afterwards, we spent alone time with the bride and groom and did together wedding portraits at sunset. This couple’s wedding at Belfair was lovely in every way! They are so beautiful together and it was wonderful to meet both families. About us: We met in college at UNC Charlotte. I’m from Maryland and Jason is from Rochester, NY. We live in Charlotte, NC. Jason is the east coast sales manager for a small winery out of Napa, B Cellars and I am in Real Estate. We love to stay active, spend time with family and friends, travel, ect. We look forward to buying our first home next year

What were the deciding factors for your Ceremony and Venue location? We chose First Presbyterian Church of Beaufort because of the old southern feel of the town and church. I love spanish moss and rustic looking buildings, decor, ect. I always wanted to get married in a church, although our ceremony was short and sweet I think getting married in front of God in addition to your loved ones is very important. We chose Belfair Plantation at first because of the entrance, the Avenue of the Oaks. It was like a real life fairytale and the perfect place for a party and amazing photos.

Where did you get the inspiration/ideas for the details? The cake color? The accents and decor? Also the blush curtains at the entrance to the reception… I am a girly girl at heart and wanted to keep our wedding as neutral as possible. Our colors were ivory and blush with the exception of the magenta bridesmaid dresses. I wanted their dresses to be a pop of color against the groomsmen in black and white. Most of all, I wanted to look back at these photos in 30 years and not to be out of date. I wanted to stick to the classics and not be too trendy. The blush drapery that I had installed just screamed romance to me. It was a sign that something big was going on in the room and that it was a special gathering.

Any advice to other couples who are in the process of planning their wedding? Always be gracious and thankful. People will remember how gracious you were and will be happy to have been a part of your day.

It was another beautiful morning here in Savannah. For this engagement session, I met Meaghan and Chris on Jones Street. August can be so hot and humid here. It was definitely warm, but we were so lucky that there was a nice breeze which made it another amazing day for portraits!  We spent the entire morning just walking around, taking photos and enjoying Jones Street. The street is in the heart of Savannah’s historic district and is filled charming homes, lush city gardens and boutiques. It was great to spend time getting to know Meaghan and Chris and to photo journal their trip to Savannah and the beginning of their life together. They had so much fun exploring the area, taking in the scenery and mostly just spending time together and being in love.  I’m so excited for them and know they are going to have so much fun planning their wedding! Congratulations!!!

Meaghan is originally from a suburb of Charlotte, NC but grew up in Bucks County, PA. Chris is a Raleigh native. Growing up, I was always counting down the days until I could get back to the south, and I ended up at Clemson for college. Chris attended UNC Charlotte, and we crossed paths during my freshman and his junior year of college. He’s an engineer, and I have a degree in Equine Business. After Chris graduated and moved to St. Louis for his job, we were long distance for almost 2 years while I finished school and had several internships in Dallas. It was hard, but so worth it! He proposed in the most incredible, special way this past June at a Thoroughbred horse farm in Kentucky. We celebrated with my family at Churchill Downs the next day! In his own words, he wanted to surround me with my first love when he asked to be my second. We’ll call it a tie!

We enjoy exploring River Street and City Market in Savannah. We never pass up the peach sangria from the Cafe and Byrd’s cookies always find their way back home! Chris’s favorite is the Georgia peach, but I love the benne wafers and red velvet. A friend recently introduced us to Rocks on the Roof, a fun rooftop bar in the Bohemian Hotel with amazing views of the harbor. In Hilton Head, we’re pretty much beach bums and stay by the water for the most part. Coligny Plaza and Harbour Town are fun for shopping and have great ice cream! We also love the Skull Creek Boathouse for dinner. Anything outside with live music and delicious seafood is perfect for us!

For our outfits, we just wanted to feel like ourselves, as if we were going to any party. We would totally wear something like that on a regular basis. And, of course, it had to be cool enough for humid August weather. In my opinion, my seersucker dress was the perfect choice because it’s so light and breathable. As far as colors, we wanted to coordinate but not match too extensively. My dress had blue and pink in it, so I just told Chris to pick a shirt in one of those colors! Chris wore Southern Tide and Sperrys. My dress was from Lilly Pulitzer, and my shoes were from DSW. They’re my favorites! My amazing earrings were a gift from my mom.

We LOVE the Lowcountry! This was our second time visiting Savannah and Hilton Head together, but my family has been many times over the years. We took a day trip to Savannah with my sister last year, so when my family decided to come back to the beach at Hilton Head this summer, we figured it was the perfect spot for engagement photos! For us, there’s nothing more perfect and comforting than the history, Southern hospitality, and beauty of the area.

I am so excited to share this Wedding! I’ve known Watseka and Elmer for about a year. We first met last Fall for their engagement portraits and ever since then I’ve been looking forward to their wedding day. They are the sweetest couple and just so fun to be around! They chose the Mackey House as their wedding venue and the weather was perfect. There was even a breeze which made it ideal weather for celebrating and taking photos.  We began at The Mackey House with getting ready photos in the bridal room and then the couple decided to have a first look at the entrance to the Mackey House Property. They chose their meeting place under a magnificent live oak tree that was at least 100 years old. Their first look and wedding ceremony were beautiful. I am sure they will reflect on this day with the happiest of memories. We were so honored to be involved in their day–Congratulations and best of wishes to them!Mackey House Savannah Wedding Photographer_-18 Mackey House Savannah Wedding Photographer_-31

About Us: Elmer and I had been together for 7 years before we got married. We met online and we were friends for a couple of years before we met in person. We were in a long distance relationship for a year while I finished school in Kentucky before moving Augusta, GA in 2008. We are both in the medical field. Elmer is currently working on his second bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences, and I have a bachelor’s degree in Health Science with a certificate in MRI.

What made you select Savannah and The Mackey House as your Ceremony & Reception location? Savannah was the first trip we took together as a couple and I immediately fell in love with the beauty and history of the town. I have a thing for old trees and the spanish moss drifting from the oaks that line the streets and squares of Savannah is just so romantic and peaceful to me. It’s one of our favorite places to visit. The Mackey House appealed to me because it was an all-inclusive venue. I never wanted to sit and plan out every single little detail of the wedding so a place that could do it all for you is what I was after. I found them online through savannahido.com and set up an appointment to tour the place in September of 2013. We fell in love with the venue the second we saw the house appear from the long driveway. It is beautifully manicured and landscaped and the staff is amazingly helpful.

What are some of your favorite local Savannah places that you recommend? When we visit Savannah we always take a day and walk the beautiful streets and squares downtown. It’s always full of locals and tourists, but there are so many little shops and cafe’s hiding in the corners that I feel like I find a new place to love every time we visit. This time around we found a cute and cozy cafe called the Firefly Café off of Troup square – we enjoyed everything we ordered from their small, but carefully selected menu. We also visited the Pirates House for the first time. Their pecan-crusted chicken is famous for a reason! And we also found a new lunch favorite called Zunzi’s, a South African themed restaurant. (Their boerewors on a roll is amazing). Lastly, the ghost tours are always fun and Tybee Island beach is just a short drive away.

Where did you get the inspiration/ideas for the details? After we got engaged I started spending most of my spare time browsing sites like Pinterest and Etsy. I wanted to keep my wedding colors simple and elegant so I went with pewter gray and yellow. When I found my dress it had light peach accents on the embroidered flowers so we decided to add peach to my wedding colors as well. Most of my ideas stemmed from something I saw on those sites with a few modifications to add our own personal touches.

Do you have any advice to other couples who are in the process of planning their wedding? What was your favorite resource for planning? My favorite resource was definitely Etsy first and Pinterest second. There are so many unique little items that I found for just about every aspect of the wedding. My advice to those planning would be to decide on what aspects of your wedding are most important to you as a couple. For us it was location and photography, so we made sure to put those things first. We weren’t extravagant with anything else, but we didn’t compromise either. Also, find yourselves a good wedding timeline (I knew we were going to take at least a year) and stick to it. It helped guide me through everything. And keep lists! I’m pretty organized so I kept a list of everything I could think of that I needed to do or buy and just crossed off things as I progressed. I can honestly say it was fun for me, not stressful!

Approximate planning time for wedding: About a year
Approximate # of Guests: 90-95
Wedding Gown: The designer is Elynore Paige, it was bought at a consignment shop in Cincinnati, OH.
Shoes: The Dessy Group (online)
Hair: Heather Ferguson, www.beyondbeautifulbyheather.com She was so amazing! I highly recommend her for any bridal party!
Makeup: Heather Ferguson, www.beyondbeautifulbyheather.com
Bride’s Jewelry: Earrings from Etsy, Pearl Necklace: something borrowed, they belong to my Aunt Rita
Bridesmaid’s Dresses: David’s Bridal
Bridesmaid’s Dresses/Accessories/Jewelry: Jewelry sets came from Etsy
Groom’s attire: David’s Bridal
Ties: Canary Yellow, David’s Bridal
Groomsmen’s attire: David’s Bridal
Officiant: Robert Poston, from the Mackey House
Ceremony Music: 1000 Years Instrumental Version (Christina Perri)

Cocktail Hour Music: Mix of songs provided by DJ – DJ or Band: Dave Gibson, from the Mackey House. He was so amazing, we cannot recommend him enough!

Florist: David Jackson (Carpe Diem) as recommended by the Mackey House. I showed David pictures of what I liked and he was able to create flower arrangements that were perfect and beautiful. I didn’t even have a specific type of flower I wanted so he had full creative-reign and I loved what he did!

Caterer: Magnolia Grill Catering, as recommended by the Mackey House. Mark and Corie are so laid-back and love what they do! They were willing to create anything we wanted, but we just chose one of their menus from their suggestions (with a few modifications) and everything was so delicious! We highly recommend the flaming doughnuts for dessert! Elmer opted for those instead of a groom’s cake! We received so many compliments on the food.

Wedding Cake: Baker’s Pride, Savannah, Ga. We ended up having two taste testings and the staff was so nice and helpful. I had specific ideas for the cake, I wanted the piping detail to match the vine-detailing on my dress and Trisha, the owner, was more than willing to create whatever I had in mind. We also chose three different flavors for the tiers because everything was so good it was hard to choose just one! Our cake topper was custom made from a shop on Etsy. It had all of our wedding details and specific details about our four-legged children! It all came out perfect!

Transportation/Trolley/Pedicab/ Limousine: We left in a classic Rolls Royce Bentley! It was a service the Mackey House offered and it felt so fancy!

Rehearsal Dinner: Our rehearsal was downtown at the Moon River Brewing Company. They have a downstairs cellar that accommodated about 35-40 in our party. The cellar area was beautifully decorated and the food was perfectly delicious.

I met Jasna and Craig at The Mansion on Forsyth Park for their Wedding Portraits. We began with getting ready photos and then photos near the Mansion on Forsyth Hotel and 700 Drayton. After the ceremony, we went in and around Forsyth Park, Gaston Street and then in Monterey Square. We then returned to take photos at the Forsyth Fountain. The main promenade to the Forsyth Fountain was bustling with activity,  so we decided to photograph in a more secluded area which has a more intimate view of the fountain. As we approached the area, Craig dipped Jasna right in front of the fountain. (So romantic!)   Savannah is full of special memories for this beautiful couple. Craig proposed in Lafayette Square during a trip to Savannah, when the couple had been vacationing at the Hamilton-Turner House. Later, they returned to Savannah for their wedding reception at The Mansion overlooking Forsyth Park. I hope they  continue to return to Savannah to enjoy our beautiful city for many years to come. This couple was so fun to photograph and its completely evident that no matter where they go in life that they will always have the most magnificent of adventures together. Best Wishes to you both!

I was traveling (my occupation is in sales for military connectors) and he was working (he’s a C-130 Aircraft Electrician). I was conducting training at the Warner Robins Air Force Base  for the machinery we sell and he was attending the training. We began talking after the session he asked if we could go out the next time I was in town. At the time I was living in Charlotte, NC and he was in Warner Robins, GA. We talked for about a month and met in Atlanta for a weekend to see each other. From that weekend, we saw each other as much as we could and here we are today (3 years later). Adam is from Warner Robins, and I’m originally from Pennsylvania. I moved down to Warner Robins right after we got engaged (1.5 years) and had 1.5 years engagement. We love doing things together, and actually do almost everything together. We both enjoy staying active and he is very into mixed martial arts-Jiu Jitsu. How did  you select Sea Palms as your Ceremony and Reception location? We had no idea where to do our wedding. For us, it was the hardest decision to make. My family lives in PA and Adam’s family lives in GA. We discovered Sea Palms at a wedding show in Savannah. A few weeks later, we toured Sea Palms Resort and fell in love with St. Simon Island and the atmosphere of the resort. What are some of your favorite local places in St. Simons that you recommend to others?  The downtown area near the pier and lighthouse is great! There’s shopping and places to eat and drink. We love renting bikes and riding all over the island. Where did you get the inspiration/ideas for the details?  All my ideas and inspiration came from Pinterest, it gave me ideas for decorating. My friends and family also helped me along the way, as most of my friends/sister are all married, so it helped out alot. I love the bashful pink and grey look. And I thought it would go great with the environment at the Sea Palms. Since we were having our ceremony outside, I wanted a color that wouldn’t be too distracting so I selected soft tones that would also look good on our wedding party. Do you have any advice to other couples who are in the process of planning their wedding? My advice to other couples, is to take your time, don’t rush and have fun with it!   DJ: Island Sound /Wedding Cake: Betty Zeigler Cakes /Ceremony music: pianist: HeartWORKS Studio / Officiant: Rv. Planning:  Nicole said “I had so much fun planning all of the details of the wedding. I am a really creative person so it was fun to do something that I liked and use my creativity for the details.  I liked it so much that I want to get into wedding planning and am already planning a friends wedding in February! For my bridesmaids, I encouraged them to choose their own dresses because everyone’s body is different and I wanted them to feel comfortable.  I gave them three rules:  The dress had  to be within the color scheme, it had to be something that they loved, and something that they would wear again!  For the guys, we didn’t care for the selections offered at rental shops. It actually worked out to be less money to buy them than to rent them! It was an added bonus that the guys may even wear parts of their outfits again. Zach and the groomsmen opted not to wear jackets because its just too hot in Savannah for all of that fabric! Zach really wanted to give his groomsmen watches. We selected watches with a leather bands and dark gray faces to compliment their attire.”

It was a gorgeous, sunny day for the wedding of Brittany and Austin. We met on Fripp Island for getting ready photos then a fist look. We then went to Hunting Island. Afterwards,  the couple had their ceremony on the beach followed by an intimate dinner with guests, cake cutting and a sparkler send off. The entire Fripp lsland area  is natural, scenic, and was a perfect setting for this couple’s sunset wedding. We has such a great time getting to know Brittany & Austin and wish them many happy years together!

Austin and I are from Ohio and we met after college through a mutual friend. We maintained a long distance relationship for 4 years, then eventually found ourselves in the same city. We enjoy camping, boating, and being active! Austin proposed at one of our favorite camping/hiking spots just southeast of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. We decided to do a destination wedding at Fripp Island because Austin had camped on Hunting Island the previous year and thought it would be a great location for a small intimate wedding.

There were many small and sentimental touches that made our day amazing: We had our minister, Dr. Lentz, travel to Fripp Island from Cleveland to perform the ceremony. Austin’s sister gave us a beautiful locket, a handkerchief with part of his mother’s wedding dress sewn in, and his mother’s garter. We also lit a candle in memory of her during the ceremony. My sisters created t-shirts for our guests. The front of the shirt says LOVE with an outline of Ohio representing the letter V. The back of the shirts have our names and the wedding date and location.

Local Places We Suggest: Sweetgrass has a beautiful view and Plum’s in Beaufort is delightful! We also recommend Beaufort Kayak Tours for tours on the Beaufort River. We saw a variety of animals including dolphins and a shark!

We met Victoria and Will for their wedding at The Mackey House. We began with getting ready photos, then took wedding party photos around the property. It began to rain as guests were arriving for the ceremony so we moved indoors for additional photos.  The couple had not planned to see each other until the ceremony and they stuck to their original plan and waited for the storm to clear. (Amazing!) Everyone was incredibly supportive of their decision and full of optimism that the ceremony would be outdoors as planned. As soon as the rain ended, the sun emerged and they had their wedding ceremony. One neat aspect of the couple’s wedding ceremony was that Victoria’s family brought sand from Chile and then the couple combined it with sand from Will’s family farm in Georgia. Victoria and Will are an awesome couple and they have a special way of making life so fun for everyone around them. Their wedding was a fantastic celebration for everyone involved!  They’re getting ready to relocate to London and we are so excited for them to begin their new adventure!

About Us: Will and I met at the University of Georgia while both pledging for AKPsi Sorority/Fraternity during the Spring of 2010. It was not until one of our final pledging events that we got to know each other better.  I’m originally from Chile, but grew up here in the South, and Will was born in Tennessee but grew up here in Georgia as well. Oddly enough, the high schools we attended were very big rivalries! Who knows, maybe our paths crossed during a football game or the local hangout at the movies! I’m currently a project manager at a market research firm, PVR Research, in Atlanta, and Will is a business analyst for a software company, ClickFox. We were originally going to move to Colorado soon after getting married, but a curveball has been thrown at us; we are now moving to London! We are both very excited and in awe to start our new married life in a different country.

What made you select The Mackey House as your Ceremony and Reception location? Will proposed on my birthday and that weekend we headed to Athens, GA to celebrate with friends. On the ride down, I began to Google locations in Savannah; I came across the Mackey House and fell in love with the venue.  Many of our friends and family were worried that we had selected a venue without seeing it, but it turned out pretty darn well!

Where did you get the inspiration/ideas for the details? Inspiration came from my crazy ideas as well as my best friend who texted me a thousand ideas as soon as I told her I was getting married. I wanted a fun and colorful wedding, and thought a fun, yet a classy carnival theme would be perfect. Our wedding cake was a 3-tier ice cream cake from Cold Stone Creamery, and in addition I had ice cream cupcakes and sandwiches for the guests. Of course Pinterest and Instagram helped too!

Advice for other couples who are in the process of planning their wedding? We used  theknot.com to keep up with RSVP and they have a great wedding checklist too! We planned our wedding within 4 months and I would recommend that to anyone – get the planning over with as fast as possible! I can’t imagine planning for the entiree year – seems so long!   Many of our accessories came from Etsy.com— This is your best friend for everything! I bought almost anything and everything from Etsy including cake toppers, garter belt, monogrammed shirts for my bridesmaids, flower girl basket, and much more! We opted to use the trolley cars to transport our guests to and from the Mackey House. So much fun! We recommend using wedding trolleys to anyone who gets married in Savannah and had our rehearsal party on the Savannah River Queen Boat– best time ever!

Honeymoon: We had the most amazing time ever in Costa Rica! We opted to stay away from resorts, because we wanted to venture out on our own.

I met Codee & Nigel for their Engagement Session at Wormsloe. Nigel is the Army and stationed in the Savannah area and Codee was visiting, so they decided to have their engagement session here, before she returned  to Colorado. This couple sought very natural settings for their photos so we spent the morning hiking on the Wormsloe Plantation trails and just exploring the property together. We had a fun time and discovered several new areas of the park for portrait locations! I’m thankful for my time with all of our military couples. Many of them don’t get to see each other every day, or they’re taking the photos knowing that they are going to be separated for a long duration, so the photo sessions are always an extra special time. After their Fall wedding in Colorado, Codee will relocate to Savannah. They’re looking forward to making a home here  in Savannah and I could not be happier for them!

About Codee & Nigel:

I was born and raised in a small town called Wiggins in Colorado.  Nigel is from Columbus Kansas. We met at college at the small campus located in Rangely, Colorado. Its so small, the closest Walmart was an hour away! I attended there for the dental hygiene program and Nigel was there for Aviation. I became friends with most of the students in his class and I met him through them. The funny thing is we didn’t really hang out much until that summer. There were maybe 10 students total on campus taking classes and because of that, we all became friends.

We are both really outdoorsy. We like camping, hiking, fishing and shooting. We like trying out new restaurant s too!

Our wedding is going to be in Colorado and laid back. I’m planning on wearing boots with my dress! It will be an intimate get together at my home town church. My future hubby, family, friends…. what more could we need! I’m excited to move into the warmth and the rain in Savannah. Its definitely going to be a change from Colorado. I wont miss snow but I will miss my family, the small town atmosphere, wide open skies, and going to the mountains. I cannot wait to start out life in Savannah with the man I love. It will be an amazing experience for us both!

Patricia & John selected the historic Hamilton Turner Inn as the location for their wedding ceremony. We began with getting ready photos of the couple together in the Noble Jones Room. It was great to photograph this sweet couple as they interacted with Patricia straightening John’s tie and the couple shared a few moments of alone time before guest began to arrive to help them with their finishing touches. After the ceremony everyone enjoyed champagne then ventured out into Lafayette Square which was full of life with all types of flowers in bloom. Patricia and John took photos with friends and family and had together portraits at The Lafayette Fountain and  near The Andrew Lowe House. The group spent the afternoon mingling in the historic square before everyone headed off by via carriage to a wonderful celebration dinner at Vic’s on the River. It was a lovely day for this spectacular couple.

I really enjoyed my evening with Leonardo & Catherine! Their wedding ceremony took place at the Tybee Island Beach Inlet. Its a more secluded part of the island and was a very natural setting.  They had the most beautiful ceremony near the ocean and said their vows as the tide drifted inland for the evening. After the ceremony, we took group photos with their guests, then together portraits near the Inlet’s pier and in various places around the beach. We all agreed it was the most romantic sunset and so fitting for this couple who is so in love!  After portraits, the newlyweds joined guests for a lovely dinner and live entertainment at the Soho South Cafe on West Liberty. Leonardo is from New York and Catherine is from the UK and they now reside in the historic district of Savannah.  I welcome both of them to our beautiful city and wish them a lifetime of happiness!

We met in November 2012 during a trip to Argentina and Chile. We spent two weeks together exploring Patagonia; hiking, kayaking and meeting penguins. Leonardo is from New York City and Catherine is from the United Kingdom. We now live together in Savannah where Leonardo is currently stationed.

We decided to have our wedding on Tybee Island because we walked there together when Catherine first came to visit the US and loved it ever since! It was the perfect location for a sunset wedding. We would recommend this location to anyone wanting a quiet, secluded area for photographs.

We chose to have a small wedding with only a few friends present as we plan to celebrate with our friends and family later this year in New York City. As the wedding in September will be our main celebration, we decided to keep our wedding on Tybee more informal. I chose a white dress with bold blue flowers on it. This was matched with a bouquet of blue wildflowers. The teapot attached to the bouquet was my “something borrowed” from one of my bridesmaids for our September celebration and symbolises my very British love of tea. It was also a great reminder of friends back “across the pond” on our special day. My fun “something blue” accent was my manicure from La Belle Nail Salon. After our ceremony and photos we enjoyed an intimate dinner with friends at one of our favourite restaurants in Savannah, Soho, where they had a live pianist playing.

I met Heather & Ryan at the Kehoe house for their ceremony with Reverend Schulte on the mansion’s winding side porch. Afterwards we decided to take photos moved to Columbia square which is located right in front of the home. We then took photos in the lovely adjacent garden area which was blooming with every imaginable shade of hydrangeas. Heather decided to take off her shoes since she was recovering from a recent foot surgery. She has such natural beauty and I think it suited her well!  We took additional photos by the Davenport house and garden then moved back to the porch area of The Kehoe house where the couple had their cake cutting and champagne. It was a beautiful, intimate wedding. Congratulations to this amazing couple!

Jeremy is one of the sweetest guys. When we first began talking, I immediately knew he was head over heels in love with Kylie! He planned  the most amazing wedding proposal in one of the most romantic locations in Savannah. I should first explain that Kylie and Jeremy live four hours away in Columbus, GA. Kylie had actually planned a surprise birthday weekend for Jeremy in Savannah, but unbeknownst to her, he found out about her plans! He had been planning to propose anyways and since she was distracted planning for his birthday,  he felt that it would be the perfect opportunity to catch her completely off guard. On the day of the proposal, Jeremy told Kylie that he just wanted to take a quick drive out to Wormsloe to drive to see the  famous live oak promenade. They arrived to Wormsloe and everything went just as planned; everyone is always taking photos there, so Kylie didn’t even suspect a thing when she saw me at the designated propose sight taking photos of the trees! He proposed, and she immediately exclaimed “Yes!”  It was fantastic to be a part of this! Congrats and best wishes!

How did you meet?

Kylie: We met through mutual friends while living in Germany about 3 years ago. Neither one of us was in a place to start a relationship, but we remained friends online and over the phone until we found ourselves back in the states. He was living in Tennessee and I was in Columbus, Georgia. He ended up finding his way to my city while looking for a job. He just came down and never left. Just when it seemed like we were headed in different directions fate brought us to the same spot in the world. We decided to give dating a try and here we are 2 years later!

Where are your home cities?
Jeremy: I grew up in Ripley, TN. Its a small farm town that fames itself for growing the best tomatoes. I grew up in the fields and joined the military when I was 22. I’ve never looked back. I still love going back to see where I began my life and remember how much I’ve grown and achieved.

Kylie: My father was in the military, so I had the privilege of living all over the place, but Columbus, Georgia is where I been the majority of my life and where I consider home.

Jeremy,What made you select the Wormsloe as a location for you engagement session? Kylie loves live oak trees with Spanish Moss. For the last two years, every time she would see one she would say “Baby, look! Those are my favorite trees! Aren’t they SO beautiful?” So when I found out she was surprising me with a trip to Savannah, I remembered the road from the Forrest Gump scene was filmed there. I thought that it would be the perfect place to propose. It was beautiful and secluded. I wanted it to be a private moment that we could share. It had to be something that shed never forget!

Kylie, Where you shocked? I could not have been more blown away. I thought I was planning a surprise weekend getaway for us and for Jeremy’s 33rd birthday. What a thoughtful girlfriend, right? Well little did I know he and my two best friends had been scheming behind my back to make this the proposal city. Neither one of us had ever been to Savannah and I was looking forward to having a new place to consider “ours”. Both being married previously it made it difficult to find vacation spots neither of us had ever been to. I was planning dinner reservations, historic sightings, and even a ghost tour. Jeremy is a lover of history and battle locations given that he is prior military, so when he told me he wanted to check out a historic site I was not at all suspicious. He had gotten me dressed up under the rouse that we had brunch reservations at a pretty fancy place. I love getting dolled up and who doesn’t love brunch? so I did not fight him on that one bit. He said the historic site was en route to brunch and he wanted to go ahead and stop before all the tourists got there and out of convenience of having to come back that direction since we were spending most of our time in downtown Savannah. Again, not suspicious at all. We got to Wormsloe and it is just absolutely stunning. The row of live oaks can only be described as breathtaking. We parked and began walking down the road under the canopy of trees, me assuming we are just exploring the plantation, but he with grander plans. We approached the white picket fence and he began telling me all sorts of sweet things, which is not out of the ordinary, he’s just a sweet guy all the time. When he took my hand and proceeded down on one knee I felt so overwhelmed with emotion. I couldn’t even process what was happening so my natural instinct was to just cry! When I saw he hired a photographer per my specific instructions from our discussion of engagement a long long time ago it made me cry even harder. (I guess he does pay attention to me when I talk about girly stuff!) I hope Nikki was able to salvage anything from the ugly cry face I had to have been doing! I was so overjoyed and I still feel butterflies just telling the story. It was so romantic and spontaneous. It could not have been a more perfect day.

What do you like most about Savannah? How does it compare to other places that you have lived?

Kylie: I love everything about Savannah. I love the beautiful live oak trees, the architecture of the homes, the haunted history, and the not so haunted history. I love the river street scene and all the fun restaurants. I love the carriage rides around the squares and the hilarious tour guide we had on the Old Savannah Tours. I loved the hospitality of all the people and the Pink Lady cocktail at the Olde Pink House. I have live in Georgia most of my life and just 4 hours down the street. I cannot believe it has taken me this long to come down and experience all Savannah has to offer. What I love most about Savannah is this is now our tradition and a new place to make memories for many years to come.

Jeremy: I love the history and architecture of the city. It feels like I’m taking a step back a few hundred years. I am a world traveler. I have seen places that most people only dream about. I have to say that Savannah is the most beautiful city I’ve ever been to. It’s my new favorite place. I see us retiring there when we grow old.

It rained the day before Giselle & Matt’s Session and it was supposed to rain the entire day of their portrait session. On the morning of the session,  we agreed to chance it and met anyways because Giselle was scheduled to fly back home to Chicago the next day. Sometimes the weather isn’t perfect and may not cooperate the the day of a session but I don’t mind  a bit of rain as long as my clients are comfortable with it. I’m so happy they were, because the rain was very minor and I just love how the photos turned out for this session! The couple was just happy to enjoy the day together, rain or shine.  I know these photos will be a wonderful reminder of time well spent in Savannah.

About Us: Matt is from a small town: Towanda, Pennsylvania. I grew up on right outside of Chicago; in Cicero, Illinois. We met through a dating website. Two different sites somehow connected us. We started emailing back and forth and before my trip to London, we exchanged numbers and began talking. We had a few Skype dates before officially meeting 4 months after connecting online. While home on leave, Matt and I took a trip up to Pennsylvania to visit his family. We both love going to wine tastings! So we decided to go to the wineries on Seneca Lake…while there we noticed that a lot of the wineries had restricted access. This didn’t bother me, but it bothered Matt because he had planned to propose in an area that was marked restricted. We finished up our trip and headed back to Chicago. A few days later it was Christmas morning. As we exchanged gifts, he handed me a small box. I opened it and there was the prettiest diamond ring sitting inside. Shocked, I looked over at him and he asked me to spend the rest of my life with him (of course I said Yes!). I couldn’t have asked for a better proposal! If you would have asked me a few years ago what I would have pictured as far as being engaged, I would not have said living in two separate states! With Matt being active military in Georgia and me having my teaching career in Chicago, we rely on technology to keep in contact. We only get to see each other twice a year, which makes those times extra special to us. Not being able to see him on a daily basis is extremely hard. We miss each other a great deal… which makes us love each other that much more. His recent deployment made me realize just how lucky I am to have found such an amazing, caring, and protective man.

How did you select Wormsloe as a location for your engagement session? We both chose Wormsloe because it seemed like it would be a nice quiet place. Neither of us like big crowds! We also saw pictures and loved the tree lined street and how the trees seemed to provide a sense of privacy and secrecy… Since Matt left for his deployment a few weeks after we were engaged, we were not able to have engagement pictures taken. Matt and I decided that since I had a week off for Spring Break, I should spend it in Georgia. I had the idea to have pictures taken while I was there. We were hoping for clear weather… of course that meant pouring rain. I was really nervous that our session would have to be cancelled! Luckily, Nikki suggested we try and we gladly agreed! The rain held off long enough to get our session done and I really think the overall weather was a reflection of what we have been through as a couple. To us, the overall weather was perfect… not too sunny and not too cloudy!

We originally met in the 8th grade, I asked Lisa out to a school dance and we dated for about  5 months. We got back together about two years ago after Lisa messaged me over Facebook, after 5 years of living separate lives and having no contact. During that time, we had no other relationships, we are both really shy people. In addition, we are each other’s first and only love, firs kiss, and a bunch of, other things! We texted and talked over Facebook everyday, using up all our free time to do so, 12+ hours sometimes, and we slowly fell in love. After 7 months, we finally decided to meet in person in our hometown of Cerritos on Christmas Day 2012. I drove six hours from my parents home to see he again. We spent almost two months together there, then she flew out to Fort Stewart for a month, and we fell even more in love. I have been stationed at Fort Stewart for over 2 years. The distance is difficult, but we both Skype, every day, using up all of our free time to do so. We still do go out to do errands or spend time with family/friends, albeit not a lot, as we’d rather spend time with each other! We’re pretty attached! I fly her to GA frequently and we spend as many holidays as we can together. The hardest part of our relationship was in 2013, when I was deployed for 8 months in Afghanistan. We stayed strong, and talked over Skype as much as possible. This January, I proposed to Lisa at the beach at Saint Augustine, Florida as the sun was setting. She loves the beach, and it and the sky were beautiful that day, but not as beautiful as her! Our wedding will take place in late June, 2014 at a hotel right next to California’s Disneyland. We  like the Savannah Botanical Gardens because of its natural setting, and all the flowers. I think Savannah is a nice quaint town, and appreciate the fact that its not as crowded as Southern California. Also, the people are nicer. We will be living at Fort Stewart for at least half a year before we do move back to California. Once my time in the Army is up, we are going back home. When I think about it, our relationship seems like dream come true. I love Lisa so much, and I’m so glad she stalked my Facebook for months before she finally messaged me after all those years. I can’t wait to start the adventure of marriage. We’ll be together, Always and Forever. ((:

We met Robbi and Sean and began with getting ready photos at the Tybee Island Wedding Chapel. After a quick first look we took family portraits inside the chapel followed by  candid wedding party photos outdoors. Robbi and Sean were one of the first weddings to host their reception in the chapel’s new main ball room which is beautiful and versatile. Robbi and Sean were so fun to work with as individuals and were radiant when we photographed them together! We enjoyed every aspect of their event and just loved being involved in their wedding day. About us: We were introduced by  a mutual friend Ann Marie (she was one of our bridesmaids) at a sporting event. Sean and I became friends very quickly. Robbi is originally from Savannah, GA, but raised in Virginia for many years. Sean was raised in Budd Lake, NJ, and came to Savannah to attend Savannah College of Art and Design. We currently live on Wilmington Island. Sean works as a project director for Gonzalez Architects and he’s also works at Creative Catering. Robbi works for Qualified Plans, which is a Third Party Administrator (TPA) firm in Thunderbolt. Our favorite activities together are watching Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears games, watching movies, playing golf, darts, cooking and  playing with our dog, Aedan.

How did you select Tybee Wedding Chapel as your Ceremony and Reception location? You were one of the first couples to have a wedding at their  newly renovated reception location. We began by narrowing our choices down to 2 options. Our  final deciding factors were based on convenience for guests, rental of extra equipment and the size of the venue. The Tybee Wedding Chapel was the best fit for us as a couple all of the details worked perfectly with our wedding plans.

What are some of your favorite local places that you recommend to others? Ele’ Restaurant, The Crab Shack, Huey’s, Henry’s Downtown, Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse, Vinnie Van Gogo’s, Screamin’ Mimi’s

Where did you get the inspiration/ideas for the details? Our idea to use red accents came from Bride’s Magazine. For our wedding cake, we came across a photo of a wedding in North Carolina that had red accents. Our local bakery was able to re-create it for our wedding day. We immediately  knew we really wanted to use Creative Catering for our Wedding Reception. Sean has worked for the company for several years , since age 19, when he first moved to Savannah to attend college at SCAD.

Do you have any advice to other couples who are in the process of planning their wedding? Do not stress about the little things! The day will happen whether or not everything is perfect according to the original plans. My matron of honor  and sister,Rebecca was enormously helpful and supportive.

This winter has been especially harsh in Michigan so just being in the sunshine and feeling the warm sun on our skin was a treat.  The girls love love love playing in the sand so hitting up the beach on Hilton Head is always a must. On this trip, we also made our way to Florida for a couple of days to visit Disney World and go on a swamp tour.  The swamp tour was a great time.  The highlight was a gigantic 14 foot alligator.  With an estimated 7,000 alligators in the swamp, let’s just say I’m thankful that the boat didn’t sink:) Disney was memorable with the girls getting to hug and talk to their current obsession, Mickey Mouse.

April and Jason had an intimate wedding ceremony at The Kehoe House, located on Columbia Square in the Historic District of Savannah. When I was speaking with Jason and his mother before the ceremony, I was quite amazed to find out that Jason is an accomplished nature photographer. (J.Litton Nature Photography)  The couple resides in Florida and even though they travel often for photography, they enjoy frequent trips to Savannah.  Considering all of the places they’ve traveled, it is really quite and honor to have them choose our little city for their destination wedding! They could not have chosen a better time for their day—EVERY tree and Azalea in Columbia Square was in full bloom and the sky was the most vibrant shade of blue; as if Nature was celebrating their wedding day. The couple spent the rest of the week enjoying Savannah and then has plans to honeymoon in Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Park. I enjoyed spending time with this couple and their family and being involved in this lovely wedding!

I am so excited to be blogging about another amazing Spring wedding! I met Krista four years ago when she was the maid of honor at her sister, Beth’s Wedding. When  Krista introduced me to her boyfriend Matthew, I just knew that eventually they would be married too! So now, we fast forward  to their wedding at the Woodlawn Plantation in Guyton, GA which is just a hop, skip and a jump from Savannah. With its vintage inspired gardens and natural scenery, Woodlawn Plantation is charming in every way and perfect for anyone seeking a beautiful wedding in the country. Even though there had been significant rain in Savannah, the weather ended up improving  once we arrived to Guyton. met Krista, her sister Beth and bridesmaids at the plantation’s bridal room, while Jason met with Matthew and his groomsmen and began photographing them as they got ready in main house.  There was a light sprinkle of rain before the ceremony, but then it held off with only clouds for the rest of the day.  The couple was able to move forward as planned and said their vows at one of the most beautiful settings on the property.  After the ceremony, Krista and Matthew had group portraits, then photos alone. Later, they hosted an intimate cocktail hour, dinner and dessert of wedding cake for their guests in the glass gazebo, located to the side of the main house. During the wedding toasts,  Krista and Matthew explained to everyone that their wedding day was on their five year anniversary of dating.  After toasts commenced, everyone transitioned to the garden and outdoor bar area for drinks and dancing under the stars. We enjoyed spending time photographing Krista and Matthew and seeing their family again. We wish them the very best in their new life together!

Our Story: Matthew and I met in January of 2009.  After a few “Hi, Hellos, and Have a Good day,” Matthew messaged me on myspace and we began talking. It was an instant connection! We talked all day, everyday for a whole month, smiling at each other every time he came into my work. We decided to hang out, and really enjoyed each other’s company. In march of 2009, he asked me out, and we have been best friends ever since!

These song lyrics sum up our relationship: “How two souls could be miles from one another, but still you and me somehow found each other.” Matthew is from Birmingham, England and grew up in Ireland. He moved to America with his family in 2001. I was born and raised in Savannah, GA.  Our home is now in Pooler, GA.  Matthew works at Protile Renovations LTD, a company he started with with his parents in 2008. I’ve been employed at YMCA since 2006, starting off with the summer camp, then taking an opportunity to work at the front desk where I met Matthew. Now I work back with the one year olds as their teacher, which I am so blessed to be. I absolutely love my munchkins!

Matthew and I enjoy riding 4 wheelers and dirt bikes and taking our boat out during the summer! We also enjoy going to the movies, and driving in Matthew’s jeep with the top down. Whatever we do, we always enjoy each other’s company!

How did you choose Woodlawn Plantation as your Ceremony and Reception location? Matthew and I were looking for a laid back rustic theme. Something outdoors. We came across Woodlawn Plantation. The pictures online really intrigued us so we took a trip out. We absolutely loved it! After taking a tour, getting some info, and asking a few questions, we decided this was it. We had only looked at one other location, but nothing could compare to the positive vibe we were getting from this beautiful venue!

The Dress: The opportunity arose for my mom and I to go to New York. After trying on dresses locally, and not really liking any of the choices, we decided, why not try dresses on in New York?! I made the appointment to Kleinfeld, not even thinking I would find “the one” but just going for the once in a lifetime experience! When arriving at Kleinfeld’s, I felt like a princess, and I hadn’t even tried dresses on yet! I had an amazing consultant who made my experience priceless.

I showed her a few pictures of what I liked and my price range. She returned with about 3 dresses. The first one I saw, I thought looked funny but decided to try it on first. When I put it on, it actually was really nice, completely unexpected! I did a few twirls, then tried on the next dress. It was OKAY, so on to the third! I was just so indecisive, I tried all 3 on probably about 5 times. When the associate saw my frustration in not being noble to make a decision, she told me she would bring a dress completely out of my price range, but exactly what I was describing to her. I thought, “oh great. I’ll fall in love and won’t be able to get it..” WRONG! What I told her I wanted was something simple, no beading, sweetheart cut, ruffles, one shoulder and it was just awful. I thanked her for showing me that I actually didn’t want what I thought, and put that all aside while looking back at the 3 dresses she had chosen. I decided to try on the first one again before leaving. It was like a light had been lit in a dark hallway, I had instantly fallen in love. Having an open mind and looking back on the dress, I realized it was perfect and brought me to tears. It was the perfect experience, with the perfect dress that was UNDER my budget.

The Details:  I looked a lot online for ideas, mainly rustic. Pinterest was my best friend! I wanted things pretty simple, but to have that country/Southern feel. Everything was perfect! I couldn’t have planned a better feel, all thanks to my mom, my sister and our Photographer, Nikki.

The Cake: I wanted it to be fondant, I was just love how it looks. My friend Brittany made the cake and used a marshmallow fondant which was less sweet but still had the same texture. It was absolutely delicious! I wanted it to be simple, with a little but of color, and she captured that perfectly!

The Shoes: I used to wear the same pair of shoes all the time. When Matthew first asked me to hangout, neither of us knew that we liked each other. It was more of a getting to know a new friend thing. I wore my green rocket dogs of course! The next week, he decided to take a chance and ask me out! If course I said yes 🙂 we went to a movie and dinner and I wore those same green rocket dogs. I wore them for the majority of our first year of dating. After moving I lost one shoe to that pair. My mom had an identical pair that I took from her and wore them often. Those are the ones I wore on our wedding day. I have saved that one shoe from when we began dating and I just can’t part with it!

The Flowers:  ordered from Kroger Floral Department!  We wanted the flowers to be casual and fun and to fit with our theme. I selected tons of baby’s breath and a vintage, wildflower bouquet for myself. On Wedding day, my bridesmaids and I assembled the flowers ourselves! We also had baby’s breath at the reception along with fresh cut fuscia Camellia’s to match our Southern theme.

Tossing the Bouquet: I always loved bouquet tosses at weddings, but I never liked that only one person ended up with it. I know the feeling, the anticipation of wanting to catch that bouquet, thinking, “Just maybe if I can  jump a bit more to the left this time, maybe I’ll catch it” and also thinking of how special I would feel if I did catch it.  Why shouldn’t everyone feel this special? Then I thought, maybe everyone COULD catch it. Instead of having one bouquet, I decided to cut the band keeping them all bound, and have about 20 different flowers fly into the sky when I did the big throw. When the bouquet flew into the air, everyone was so surprised! I was so happy with my little surprise for all the lovely single ladies!

Approximate planning time: engaged for a year, started planning in July/August.–about 8 months / # of Guests: 50 /  Rehearsal Party: At our wedding venue the night before.  It was the first time the whole wedding party saw the venue, they absolutely loved it!  Hair: Marrisa Bryant, the braid is an Irish tradition on wedding day / Makeup: Brennan Sarver / Wedding Cake: Brittany Childers / Bride’s Jewelry: Necklace & earrings were from mother; Bracelet was a gift from Simon and Kay (in laws) /Caterer: Quantum/  Wedding Gown: from Kleinfeld in NYC (Designer: Maggie Sottero: Haute Couture / Bridesmaid’s Dresses: David’s Bridal/ Groom / Groomsmen Attire: Simons Formal / Officiant: Reverend Daryl Brown /  Guest Accommodations: De Soto Savannah & The Bohemian Hotel Savannah:  After our wedding, we celebrated and stayed in a suite at the Bohemian Hotel. We had a beautiful view of downtown Savannah and River Street / Transportation:  That evening we took  Matthew’s jeep to the hotel, his father tied the traditional cans and shoes to our jeep! So Fun!

Kim and Rashad had a  wonderful sunset ceremony on the roof top of Andaz Hotel located in Historic Savannah near City Market and overlooking Ellis Square. I met with Rashad for portraits before the ceremony and then headed over to the couple’s amazing hotel suite for bridal portraits with Kim.  After the ceremony the couple rented pedicabs to take us over to  Telfair Square. It was a great idea and so fun to be driving right beside the couple taking photos as they shared some alone time together while many vacationers, already in Savannah celebrating St. Patrick’s Day,  stopped what they were doing to yell “Congratulations!!!” The squares are just beginning to turn green and Telfair square was vivid and alive with blooms.  There were many  trees full of blossoms combined with beautiful buildings which made it the perfect atmosphere for photos. After we finished up wedding photographs in the square,  the couple requested that the pedicab drivers take us over to nearby rustic brick structures for more casual photos. The couple had a fantastic fun time just enjoying each other’s company while taking photos. They’ve been together for over twelve years and were so excited to finally be married. It was wonderful to meet and photograph this couple who is also originally from Western NY area and now call Savannah their home too.

Our Story:  We met each other in high school in Rochester, NY.  We hung out in the same social circle but we didn’t know each other that well.  After high school, Rashad joined the Army and I went to college.  While he was away from home, he remembered to call each year on my birthday.  When his 4 years were up, he returned to Rochester and we began spending more time together (thanks to our mutual friend Douglas).  As I was able to get to know him, I developed a crush.  One night while we were out dancing I decided to kiss him.  And the rest is history. (I found out after we started dating that even throughout high school, he always thought I was cute.)

We decided to leave Rochester and come to Savannah because Rashad loved the area so much when he was stationed at Ft. Stewart.  I was also having a hard time finding a teaching position in NY.  We came here for a St. Patrick’s Day vacation, and while I was here I was offered a teaching position.  The next August we packed up and said good bye to the cold weather forever.  He transferred from his position with  the Department of Homeland Security and I have taught second grade since we moved.  Rashad planned a surprise proposal at a wonderful restaurant in Hilton Head, Michael Anthony’s.  On his signal, one of the staff presented the ring on a plate with a single red rose.  He got down on one knee and of course I said yes.   We love living in Savannah!  We enjoy going for walks to take in the beautiful scenery and eating in the many wonderful restaurants.  Many of our family and friends from Rochester like to visit us here.

What made you decide to have your wedding in Savannah? What made you select Andaz for your location? We chose the Andaz because it allowed us to have our intimate wedding, yet still still offered the elegance we were looking for.

Where did you get the inspiration/ideas for the details? Once we decided on our color scheme (champagne and slate blue) I found a lot of my ideas through Pinterest.  I have to give much of the credit for our beautiful wedding to our planners, Jessica and Ivelisse.

Any Advice to other couples who are in the process of planning a wedding? We wanted an intimate wedding because that just fits both of our personalities. It turned out beautifully thanks to our planners and the staff at Andaz.   I think that each couple has to do what works for them.

Keri and Stewart had a beautiful spring wedding at The Mackey House. The weather forecast called for rain and thunderstorms all week but their day turned out to be perfect. It was obvious that the couple loved the outdoors and we brought as much of that into the photos as possible. We began with getting ready photos and then proceeded to walk the grounds capturing shots of the wedding party. The ceremony followed on the lawn just before sunset under the arbor. Newly joined as husband and wife they proceeded to their first dance under the pavilion to kick of the reception. The band “Majic” provided amazing live entertainment to the energized guests. The night concluded with a sparkler send off  leading the couple into the night and their new future together.

How did you meet? We met at a University of Georgia Football game in 2011, by some stroke of fate we ended up sitting next to each other for the game. During the second half, a lady told Stewart that one day he was going to marry “that girl.” He brushed it off and went on about his way. Six months later we had our first date and the rest was icing on the wedding cake.

Tell us about yourselves and any activities that you enjoy doing together…We are both from Southeast Georgia, Stewart is from Douglas, GA and I am from Baxley, GA. We currently live and work Baxley. I work as the Executive Director of the Baxley/Appling County Chamber of Commerce and Stewart works with AgSouth Farm Credit. We do a lot of different things together. We both enjoy the outdoors which we spend a lot of time in tending to our farms. We grow blueberries and pecans as well as manage timberlands. We both enjoy various sports from tennis to football to golf and snow skiing.  In the summer we like to fish and ski in the Altamaha River. We also enjoy going to the beach on St. Simons Island and Jacksonville Beach. We have a 125 lbs Great Pyrenees Dog named “Castle;” he is basically our child for the time being and he is very upset that he was not included in the wedding, however he was very appreciative of getting to taste some of the left overs from the reception!

What made you decide to have your wedding at The Mackey House in Savannah?  We have always loved Savannah and Stewarts family has roots there and The Mackey House was our choice for a venue for a several reasons. We loved the old plantation vibe that we got when we visited it for the first time. After we left, as we were reading about it, Stewart realized that the owners were actually distant relatives, so that sealed the deal!

Where did you get  ideas for your wedding such as the the cake, centerpieces and the music?  I am an extremely laid back person so I really had very little knowledge of what I wanted as far as colors and “themes”. We both enjoy wine and love the color blue so we decided to incorporate some blue wine bottles and the rest just kind of fell into place with the help of Michelle with Improvisions. We both enjoy dancing so we knew we wanted an oldies band, which we found with no problem in Savannah.

Did you have any advice to other couples who are in the process of planning a wedding? Advice…. hmmmm. I would say to enjoy it. Do not get too caught up in the minor details because honestly people do not notice all the things you think they do. Make it about you and your husband. Also, START EARLY…. there are many small things that you will have to do in the weeks before the wedding so do as much of the work as you can before those final few weeks. As far as obstacles we really didn’t have that many, we waited until the last minute to do some things, but it all worked out in the end. The wedding and reception was a dream come true. To have our closest friends and family there to be a part of our special day was unforgettable and we are so grateful for all of them.

We met Tommy, Stevie and their wedding party at The Mackey House on a georgeous Saturday afternoon in February . We began with getting ready photos in the Bridal Suite and then strolled the grounds capturing stunning Bridal Portraits culminating in the couple’s “first look.” Vows followed by a warm glowing fire in the covered pavilion situated behind the Mackey House. Guests then proceeded to the garden area to enjoy the cocktail hour with h’ourderves followed by a wonderful group photo and finally the first dance at the arbor. The group then moved to the upper deck for dinner, several toasts, followed by dessert. The love the families shared for one another was obvious as they danced the night away backlit by fireworks set off against the night sky.

What made you decide to have your wedding in Savannah and how did you select The  Mackey House as your Ceremony and Reception location? We wanted a destination wedding thought it was a beautiful area.  It was a beautiful location and they offer  everything to make it as stress free as possible for destination weddings.

Do you visit the Savannah area often? We have been in Savannah quite a few times since deciding to have our wedding here.
What are some of your favorite local places that you recommend to others? Wet Willies, Moon River Brewery, River Street is great for anything and a “must do” is a Ghost Tour with Peg Leg Ron!

You were both very active in the planning process, could you describe how you decided who would handle each task?   We both took part in the planning. I chose to have the wedding in Savannah and Tommy found The Mackey House venue to host it and from there we both just split up duties of the planning. Tommy took on more of the work of dealing with all of the vendors and I dealt with the details of the decor, cake, wedding party attire, etc. It ended up being a good fit.

Loren and John were married at the Mackey House in Savannah GA. The Mackey House is a beautiful place to be during the holidays and we were happy to cover a winter wedding there. Rain threatened to dampen the event but held off long enough for the guests to arrive and get situated and for the groomsmen to have photographs taken outdoors. Rain started to fall during the ceremony but added to the romance and ambiance of the ceremony. As rain fell on the roof of the open pavilion the couple exchanged vows in front of a warm crackling fire. Afterwards, everyone adjourned into the main house for cocktails and group photos followed by a reception that offered a myriad of entrees and then two beautiful cakes that were enjoyed by all. As the night danced in the covered deck area enjoyed the Blush photo booth on the Mackey House’s spacious wraparound porch. The rain ended in time for the couple to have a fun sparkler send off and then depart in a 1949 Rolls Royce.

Tell us about yourself: We met during undergrad at Augusta State University. I was studying with a friend and she asked if it was ok if her friend came and sat with us while he ate lunch. I agreed, he showed up and we became really good friends. We actually didn’t start dating until a year later. I’m originally from? Wrightsville, Georgia. John is from Augusta, GA. We currently live in Columbia, SC where I’m a last year pharmacy student. John is a loss control consultant for Liberty Mutual Insurance. What we really enjoy the most is just the everyday activities, like cuddling while watching a movie or date night.

What made you select The Mackey House as your Ceremony and Reception location? We chose the Mackey House, because we both wanted a casual setting where our families could really get to know each other. Savannah was our wedding location because John’s family is in Augusta and most of mine is in Florida and middle GA…we just thought Savannah would be middle ground for everyone. Not to mention it is absolutely a beautiful city!  I have always loved fall and winter weddings and we got very lucky that my pharmacy school schedule allowed a long enough break for our winter wedding. John and I especially loved the fact that once we got back from our honeymoon we got to spend our 1st Christmas together married.

What inspired you to use the metallic accents for your wedding?  If you were to walk into my house you would see lots of metallic! I just really love to accent with golds, silvers and bronzes!! Now that I wrote that sounds like the Olympics! My Bridesmaids also wore metallic flats because their dresses were all long and there was no point in being uncomfortable in heels when no one would see them.

Approximate planning time for wedding: 1 year / # of Guests: 150 / Wedding Gown: Maggie Sottero /Seamstress: Elite Alterations /Shoes: Anne Klein /Hair: Studio 15 (Camron Roberts) /Makeup: Brooke Winkler (sister) / Bridesmaid’s Dresses: Dessy Gowns /Groom’s Attire: Vera Wang / Groomsmen’s attire: Vera Wang /Officiant: Reverend Henry Mayo / Florist: John Davis Florist / Cakes: Delectable Designs / Caterer: Magnolia Grill / Transportation: Luxury Limousine – 1949 Rolls Royce / Rehearsal Dinner: Pirates House /Guest Accommodations: Inn at Ellis Square /Honeymoon:Polynesian Resort at Disney World

Custom Items: All of the jewelry for the wedding Party was made by my Nana! John has lots of hobbies, for the Goom’s cake he chose his top 3 (Golfing, Fishing & Hunting) and then he actually designed the cake! My veil was actually from my mother’s wedding.

I met up with Stevie in the Fall for their engagement Session at Wormsloe Plantation which is located about 20 minutes from Historic Savannah.  I just love how Wormsloe changes with each season. It was a beautiful Fall day right before Thanksgiving. The muted colors of gold, gray and green are amazing and the sunlight was perfect for natural light photos.  Tommy and Stevie are a fantastic couple and were so fun to photograph.  I’m really looking forward working with them again at their Spring wedding at The Mackey House.

We had a wonderful time at Elandra & Peter’s wedding at Andaz Hotel. Andaz is a lovely and modern hotel located on Ellis Square in the heart of Savannah near City Market and River Street. The couples fondness of the area compelled them to marry in Savannah and to celebrate the occasion with numerous family members traveling from as far as the Commonwealth of Dominica located in the Caribbean. The day started with getting ready portraits in the hotel suites and quickly moved to more formal portraits in the city squares. A limousine first took the groomsmen to Madison and LaFayette Squares and then doubled back to escort the bridal party to Monterey Square for bridal portraits. Everyone gathered back at the Andaz roof deck courtyard to witness the beautiful ceremony as officiated by Reverend Steven Schulte. Upon conclusion the bridal party traveled to the majestic Forsyth Fountain and promenade for more photographs. The night ended with dinner, dancing and a wonderful time had by all. 1-Beautiful Savannah Wedding Flowers Bouquets Blush Photos Kato Florist-005 1-Award Winning Best Savannah Wedding Photographer The Knot WeddingWire Rated Beautiul Bride Portrait-002 01-Purple Bride Wedding Shoes Heels Savannah Boquet Kato Andaz Hotel 1-Wedding Monterey Square Forsyth Park Ogelthorpe Club Savannah Best Artisitc Photgrapher 1-Beautiful Bride and bridal Party Flower Girls Savannah Wedding Forsyth Park Monterey Square 05-Beautiful Violet Purple Satin Wedding Brides Shoes Forsyth Park Savannah GA Wedding Photographer-001 1-Groom Groomsmen Lafayette and Ellis Square Andaz Rooftop Wedding Ceremony Savannah Hilton HeadPhotographer 1-Kato Florist Wedding Flowers Savannah Andaz Photographer Mansion Mens Wearhouse Suit Groom 11-Wedding Photographer Andaz Hotel Savannah Ellis Square 1-Andaz Wedding Savannah Kato Flowers Florist 56-Andaz Rooftop Wedding Bohemian Hotel Savannah -001 13-IMG_9046-00212-Wedding Flowers Bouquet Kato Florist Savannah Andaz Hotel Beautiful Ceremony Reverand Schultet Artisitc and Candid Wedding Photographer Savannah GA1-Bride and Groom Kiss First Look Forsyth Park Savannah Wedding Photographer near 700 Drayton Ogelthorpe Club Gastonian Olde Pink House Forsyth Mansion Kehoe House 2-Wedding Photograhy Forsyth Park Fountan Savannah -001 1-Wedding Photograhy Forsyth Park Fountan Savannah 07-Wedding Ceremony Near Forsyth Park Mansion Inn Ogelthorpe Club Fountain Andaz Savannah Photographer 08-Bride and Groom Wedding Forsyth Fountain Mansion Inn Park Creative Savannah Photographer couple 1-Wedding Flowers Centerpiece Boquet Kato Florist Candy Buffet Andaz Reception 1-Savannah Candy Buffet Andaz Hotel Wedding Reception

We met Carrie and her sister Colleen, also her matron of honor, at a beautiful historic home on East St. Julian Street. John and his best man, James, got ready at the Marmaduke House which is another gorgeous Savannah home nestled among the row houses on Oglethorpe Ave. The ladies took Pedi Cabs to the wedding ceremony in Ogelthorpe Square while the gentlemen enjoyed a brisk walk to meet them for the event. After the ceremony guests convened at the Marshall House and enjoyed a cocktail hour followed by a fine evening of dinner and dancing. Both families share a deep connection with the City of Savannah. Carrie and John met in the fall of 1990 while in high school. They became friends but parted ways three years later when John moved to St. Louis. Life brought them back together again 15 years later when John moved back to the Chicago area. John took a chance and contacted Carrie and the two discovered they only lived three blocks from each other. They met for cocktails after work one day and the two have been inseparable ever since. That Thanksgiving they took their first of many trips to Savannah together. Years later they returned to Forsyth Park and John asked Carrie to marry him. Carrie, of course, said “Yes”. When John informed his father of the good news he discovered that his grandparents were also engaged in Forsyth Park 60 years earlier! Carrie’s sister was also engaged in Savannah in 2003.

What do you like most about the Savannah area? Do you visit here often? What are some of your favorite local places that you recommend to others?  It’s hard to say what we like most about Savannah.  There are so many wonderful things:  the people, the squares, and the food are all at the top of the list.  It just feels like people enjoy life in Savannah and it is a great way for us to take a step back from our fast paced lives in Chicago.  Our favorite places are 45 Bistro, the tavern downstairs at the Olde Pink House, Alligator Soul, McDonough’s, Owens-Thomas house, and of course we love the ghost tours.

Where did you get the inspiration/ideas for your wedding details? The Asian influence?  The Music? Also, the idea to go to the Olde Pink House to have drinks after the ceremony with your Best Man and Matron of Honor.   John and I have always gravitated to Asian inspired things so we knew that we wanted to incorporate touches of this into our wedding.  We wanted our guests to see our touch in everything from the parasols to the flowers.  The colors were a bit out of the ordinary for us since I generally shy away from pink.  However, I love pink orchids and cherry blossoms which is what drove the color choice.  Plus I knew my nieces were going to want to wear pink dresses.  Fuchsia and Navy just happened after that.  I do love those colors together. We had a great time picking out the music for the wedding.  We found out about a group, The Vitamin String Quartet, that covers just about any song you can imagine.  We just bought the songs from iTunes and played them on wireless speakers at the ceremony.  We thought it would be fun to see which guests would be able to figure out the songs while they were waiting for the wedding to get started.  We chose songs from Phish, Pink Floyd, Queen, and Incubus.  These choices are a bit out of the ordinary but sounded great translated to string music.  Every time we visit Savannah, we eat downstairs at the Pink House.  During our last visit, one of the bartenders suggested that we come down for pictures in the wine cellar.  We didn’t know they would let us do that and were happy that they would be so accommodating.  We loved taking pictures there.  It shielded us from the rain plus allowed us to have a more relaxed time together.  It calmed my nerves before the whirlwind of the reception started.  John and I love art photography so we wanted to primarily focus on getting some artsy photos for our walls rather than tons of group shots. When John and I started planning the wedding and reception, we knew that we had to have these things: great food, cocktails, and music.   After all these are some of the things we  love to do together, cook and listen to music.  We wanted our guests to feel like they were going out for dinner and cocktails rather than going to a wedding reception.  This is why we had a plated seating and didn’t go for a big cake.  I wanted people to sit and eat there dessert with the meal like they would do at any restaurant.  I feel sometimes people forget to eat the cake at receptions.  We also cut out the bouquet toss, garter, the entrance, and formal greeting line.  All of that seemed a bit forced and would take away from the restaurant experience.  John and I also wanted to shy away from the traditional wedding band and find something that reflected our music taste.  We love blues music, especially live.  One of our favorite blues bands is local to Savannah, Jubal Kane.  Which is why we were overjoyed when they agreed to play our wedding.

Approximate planning time for wedding: 1  1/2  years
Any planning obstacles with this being a long distance wedding?  I actually thought it made planning easier.  I had to limit my choices and just stick to them.  If the wedding was in Chicago, I would probably overthink everything.  We also had a day of planner.  I would recommend this to anyone but it was more important to us since we are not from Savannah.  It took a lot of pressure off my back on the wedding day.  I can’t imagine what it would have been like to try and organize the ceremony and get ready.  We also had a bit of a set back with the first date we chose which ended up being the Rock N Roll Marathon.  Thank goodness we changed the date.
Approximate # of Guests: 70

Caterer: 45 Bistro
Transportation/Trolley/Pedicab/ Limousine: Pedicab.  We got this at the last minute through PHX Limo Service because our planner said there was no parking by Oglethorpe Square.  Thank goodness—another save from our planner.  Plus, the ring bearer and flower girl had a blast on the pedicab.

Was there a Rehearsal Dinner? Where? B & D Burger
Guest Accommodations: made recommendations to Savannahgetaways.net and Marshall House
Honeymoon Plans? Costa Rica in February

We began Kathleen and Ryan’s Wedding with getting ready photos. I met Kathleen and her bridesmaids at her parent’s home on Wilmington Island while Jason met up with Ryan and his groomsmen over at the Savannah Westin. Before the Ceremony, Kathleen and Ryan had a very romantic  first look in the bottom area of the garden. After group photos, the ceremony took place on the Bluff at Trustees’ Garden. It has an amazing view overlooking the beginning of River Street and the water and is located where Savannah River meets the ocean. Kathleen wore a gorgeous Mikaella lace wedding gown and chose gray, lace  bridesmaid’s dresses with vibrant yellow bouquets, baby’s breath accent flowers with burlap and natural papers which complimented everything perfectly. To kick off the night, the couple had a fantastic cocktail hour complete with musical entertainment and gourmet appetizers from Creative Catering. Cocktail hour was followed by dinner, dancing, music by the Traveling Riverside Band, Photo Booth and several toasts by the wedding party and family members. We enjoyed out time photographing Kathleen and Ryan. It was a spectacular event on the bluff for this radiant New York City couple!

Tell us a bit about yourself: We met in business school at Columbia in New York City and still live nearby. Kathleen works in Marketing for a large consumer products good company and Ryan is a banking operations consultant for a Big 4 accounting firm. While we live in the city, we enjoy escaping the hustle and bustle to visit family and friends (and to shop at normal grocery stores)!

What made you decide to have your wedding in Savannah? What made you choose the Trustees Garden/Charles Morris Center as your Reception location? My parents moved to Savannah 14 years ago (the same year I went to college), so Savannah has been my home away from home for summers and holidays since then. Once Ryan and I met, he started coming down with me often, and when we got engaged it was an easy decision to plan our wedding in a city we both love.

What do you like most about the Savannah area? Do you visit here often? What are some of your favorite local places that you recommend to others? We usually make it back twice per year to visit family. We love the relaxed nature of the city and walking around the historic downtown area. Some of our favorite restaurants include Green Truck Pub, B. Matthews, and the Distillery.

Where did you get the inspiration/ideas for the details? The colors? The Band? We wanted something that was low-key and simple, but that still incorporated many traditional wedding elements in a classically beautiful setting. The Trustee’s Garden was the perfect venue for us because it offered a location for the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception (as well as options in case of rain). We love the history of the building, its location downtown, and the aesthetic of its exposed brick event space. Most of our guests were from out-of-town, and for many it was their first time in Savannah, so we wanted to make sure that the location was in the heart of the historic downtown so that they could have a unique Savannah experience.

Approximate planning time for wedding: 1 year

Any planning obstacles with this being a long distance wedding? None, though we definitely could not have done this in the pre-internet age. Kathleen’s parents were able to scout out the locations and provide us with “first hand” reviews before we made any decisions.  Our vendors were great to work with via phone and we met most everyone in-person while visiting Savannah for the holidays.

I had been in close contact with Whitney and Claiborne for quite some time before their wedding and was beyond excited when their wedding day finally arrived. They were very hands on with the planning process and did a fantastic job working together to make everything happen—both Whitney and Claiborne are beautiful people as individuals and even better as a couple. We thoroughly enjoyed our time with them, their family and their awesome wedding party! From the view of the ocean  to the live band it was unique and a magnificent celebration and I have no doubt that everyone involved made some great memories.
