We began Kathleen and Ryan’s Wedding with getting ready photos. I met Kathleen and her bridesmaids at her parent’s home on Wilmington Island while Jason met up with Ryan and his groomsmen over at the Savannah Westin. Before the Ceremony, Kathleen and Ryan had a very romantic first look in the bottom area of the garden. After group photos, the ceremony took place on the Bluff at Trustees’ Garden. It has an amazing view overlooking the beginning of River Street and the water and is located where Savannah River meets the ocean. Kathleen wore a gorgeous Mikaella lace wedding gown and chose gray, lace bridesmaid’s dresses with vibrant yellow bouquets, baby’s breath accent flowers with burlap and natural papers which complimented everything perfectly. To kick off the night, the couple had a fantastic cocktail hour complete with musical entertainment and gourmet appetizers from Creative Catering. Cocktail hour was followed by dinner, dancing, music by the Traveling Riverside Band, Photo Booth and several toasts by the wedding party and family members. We enjoyed out time photographing Kathleen and Ryan. It was a spectacular event on the bluff for this radiant New York City couple!
Tell us a bit about yourself: We met in business school at Columbia in New York City and still live nearby. Kathleen works in Marketing for a large consumer products good company and Ryan is a banking operations consultant for a Big 4 accounting firm. While we live in the city, we enjoy escaping the hustle and bustle to visit family and friends (and to shop at normal grocery stores)!
What made you decide to have your wedding in Savannah? What made you choose the Trustees Garden/Charles Morris Center as your Reception location? My parents moved to Savannah 14 years ago (the same year I went to college), so Savannah has been my home away from home for summers and holidays since then. Once Ryan and I met, he started coming down with me often, and when we got engaged it was an easy decision to plan our wedding in a city we both love.
What do you like most about the Savannah area? Do you visit here often? What are some of your favorite local places that you recommend to others? We usually make it back twice per year to visit family. We love the relaxed nature of the city and walking around the historic downtown area. Some of our favorite restaurants include Green Truck Pub, B. Matthews, and the Distillery.
Where did you get the inspiration/ideas for the details? The colors? The Band? We wanted something that was low-key and simple, but that still incorporated many traditional wedding elements in a classically beautiful setting. The Trustee’s Garden was the perfect venue for us because it offered a location for the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception (as well as options in case of rain). We love the history of the building, its location downtown, and the aesthetic of its exposed brick event space. Most of our guests were from out-of-town, and for many it was their first time in Savannah, so we wanted to make sure that the location was in the heart of the historic downtown so that they could have a unique Savannah experience.
Approximate planning time for wedding: 1 year
Any planning obstacles with this being a long distance wedding? None, though we definitely could not have done this in the pre-internet age. Kathleen’s parents were able to scout out the locations and provide us with “first hand” reviews before we made any decisions. Our vendors were great to work with via phone and we met most everyone in-person while visiting Savannah for the holidays.
