Keri and Stewart had a beautiful spring wedding at The Mackey House. The weather forecast called for rain and thunderstorms all week but their day turned out to be perfect. It was obvious that the couple loved the outdoors and we brought as much of that into the photos as possible. We began with getting ready photos and then proceeded to walk the grounds capturing shots of the wedding party. The ceremony followed on the lawn just before sunset under the arbor. Newly joined as husband and wife they proceeded to their first dance under the pavilion to kick of the reception. The band “Majic” provided amazing live entertainment to the energized guests. The night concluded with a sparkler send off leading the couple into the night and their new future together.
How did you meet? We met at a University of Georgia Football game in 2011, by some stroke of fate we ended up sitting next to each other for the game. During the second half, a lady told Stewart that one day he was going to marry “that girl.” He brushed it off and went on about his way. Six months later we had our first date and the rest was icing on the wedding cake.
Tell us about yourselves and any activities that you enjoy doing together…We are both from Southeast Georgia, Stewart is from Douglas, GA and I am from Baxley, GA. We currently live and work Baxley. I work as the Executive Director of the Baxley/Appling County Chamber of Commerce and Stewart works with AgSouth Farm Credit. We do a lot of different things together. We both enjoy the outdoors which we spend a lot of time in tending to our farms. We grow blueberries and pecans as well as manage timberlands. We both enjoy various sports from tennis to football to golf and snow skiing. In the summer we like to fish and ski in the Altamaha River. We also enjoy going to the beach on St. Simons Island and Jacksonville Beach. We have a 125 lbs Great Pyrenees Dog named “Castle;” he is basically our child for the time being and he is very upset that he was not included in the wedding, however he was very appreciative of getting to taste some of the left overs from the reception!
What made you decide to have your wedding at The Mackey House in Savannah? We have always loved Savannah and Stewarts family has roots there and The Mackey House was our choice for a venue for a several reasons. We loved the old plantation vibe that we got when we visited it for the first time. After we left, as we were reading about it, Stewart realized that the owners were actually distant relatives, so that sealed the deal!
Where did you get ideas for your wedding such as the the cake, centerpieces and the music? I am an extremely laid back person so I really had very little knowledge of what I wanted as far as colors and “themes”. We both enjoy wine and love the color blue so we decided to incorporate some blue wine bottles and the rest just kind of fell into place with the help of Michelle with Improvisions. We both enjoy dancing so we knew we wanted an oldies band, which we found with no problem in Savannah.
Did you have any advice to other couples who are in the process of planning a wedding? Advice…. hmmmm. I would say to enjoy it. Do not get too caught up in the minor details because honestly people do not notice all the things you think they do. Make it about you and your husband. Also, START EARLY…. there are many small things that you will have to do in the weeks before the wedding so do as much of the work as you can before those final few weeks. As far as obstacles we really didn’t have that many, we waited until the last minute to do some things, but it all worked out in the end. The wedding and reception was a dream come true. To have our closest friends and family there to be a part of our special day was unforgettable and we are so grateful for all of them.
