Krista & Matthew’s Wedding at Woodlawn Plantation

I am so excited to be blogging about another amazing Spring wedding! I met Krista four years ago when she was the maid of honor at her sister, Beth’s Wedding. When  Krista introduced me to her boyfriend Matthew, I just knew that eventually they would be married too! So now, we fast forward  to their wedding at the Woodlawn Plantation in Guyton, GA which is just a hop, skip and a jump from Savannah. With its vintage inspired gardens and natural scenery, Woodlawn Plantation is charming in every way and perfect for anyone seeking a beautiful wedding in the country. Even though there had been significant rain in Savannah, the weather ended up improving  once we arrived to Guyton. met Krista, her sister Beth and bridesmaids at the plantation’s bridal room, while Jason met with Matthew and his groomsmen and began photographing them as they got ready in main house.  There was a light sprinkle of rain before the ceremony, but then it held off with only clouds for the rest of the day.  The couple was able to move forward as planned and said their vows at one of the most beautiful settings on the property.  After the ceremony, Krista and Matthew had group portraits, then photos alone. Later, they hosted an intimate cocktail hour, dinner and dessert of wedding cake for their guests in the glass gazebo, located to the side of the main house. During the wedding toasts,  Krista and Matthew explained to everyone that their wedding day was on their five year anniversary of dating.  After toasts commenced, everyone transitioned to the garden and outdoor bar area for drinks and dancing under the stars. We enjoyed spending time photographing Krista and Matthew and seeing their family again. We wish them the very best in their new life together!

Our Story: Matthew and I met in January of 2009.  After a few “Hi, Hellos, and Have a Good day,” Matthew messaged me on myspace and we began talking. It was an instant connection! We talked all day, everyday for a whole month, smiling at each other every time he came into my work. We decided to hang out, and really enjoyed each other’s company. In march of 2009, he asked me out, and we have been best friends ever since!

These song lyrics sum up our relationship: “How two souls could be miles from one another, but still you and me somehow found each other.” Matthew is from Birmingham, England and grew up in Ireland. He moved to America with his family in 2001. I was born and raised in Savannah, GA.  Our home is now in Pooler, GA.  Matthew works at Protile Renovations LTD, a company he started with with his parents in 2008. I’ve been employed at YMCA since 2006, starting off with the summer camp, then taking an opportunity to work at the front desk where I met Matthew. Now I work back with the one year olds as their teacher, which I am so blessed to be. I absolutely love my munchkins!

Matthew and I enjoy riding 4 wheelers and dirt bikes and taking our boat out during the summer! We also enjoy going to the movies, and driving in Matthew’s jeep with the top down. Whatever we do, we always enjoy each other’s company!

How did you choose Woodlawn Plantation as your Ceremony and Reception location? Matthew and I were looking for a laid back rustic theme. Something outdoors. We came across Woodlawn Plantation. The pictures online really intrigued us so we took a trip out. We absolutely loved it! After taking a tour, getting some info, and asking a few questions, we decided this was it. We had only looked at one other location, but nothing could compare to the positive vibe we were getting from this beautiful venue!

The Dress: The opportunity arose for my mom and I to go to New York. After trying on dresses locally, and not really liking any of the choices, we decided, why not try dresses on in New York?! I made the appointment to Kleinfeld, not even thinking I would find “the one” but just going for the once in a lifetime experience! When arriving at Kleinfeld’s, I felt like a princess, and I hadn’t even tried dresses on yet! I had an amazing consultant who made my experience priceless.

I showed her a few pictures of what I liked and my price range. She returned with about 3 dresses. The first one I saw, I thought looked funny but decided to try it on first. When I put it on, it actually was really nice, completely unexpected! I did a few twirls, then tried on the next dress. It was OKAY, so on to the third! I was just so indecisive, I tried all 3 on probably about 5 times. When the associate saw my frustration in not being noble to make a decision, she told me she would bring a dress completely out of my price range, but exactly what I was describing to her. I thought, “oh great. I’ll fall in love and won’t be able to get it..” WRONG! What I told her I wanted was something simple, no beading, sweetheart cut, ruffles, one shoulder and it was just awful. I thanked her for showing me that I actually didn’t want what I thought, and put that all aside while looking back at the 3 dresses she had chosen. I decided to try on the first one again before leaving. It was like a light had been lit in a dark hallway, I had instantly fallen in love. Having an open mind and looking back on the dress, I realized it was perfect and brought me to tears. It was the perfect experience, with the perfect dress that was UNDER my budget.

The Details:  I looked a lot online for ideas, mainly rustic. Pinterest was my best friend! I wanted things pretty simple, but to have that country/Southern feel. Everything was perfect! I couldn’t have planned a better feel, all thanks to my mom, my sister and our Photographer, Nikki.

The Cake: I wanted it to be fondant, I was just love how it looks. My friend Brittany made the cake and used a marshmallow fondant which was less sweet but still had the same texture. It was absolutely delicious! I wanted it to be simple, with a little but of color, and she captured that perfectly!

The Shoes: I used to wear the same pair of shoes all the time. When Matthew first asked me to hangout, neither of us knew that we liked each other. It was more of a getting to know a new friend thing. I wore my green rocket dogs of course! The next week, he decided to take a chance and ask me out! If course I said yes 🙂 we went to a movie and dinner and I wore those same green rocket dogs. I wore them for the majority of our first year of dating. After moving I lost one shoe to that pair. My mom had an identical pair that I took from her and wore them often. Those are the ones I wore on our wedding day. I have saved that one shoe from when we began dating and I just can’t part with it!

The Flowers:  ordered from Kroger Floral Department!  We wanted the flowers to be casual and fun and to fit with our theme. I selected tons of baby’s breath and a vintage, wildflower bouquet for myself. On Wedding day, my bridesmaids and I assembled the flowers ourselves! We also had baby’s breath at the reception along with fresh cut fuscia Camellia’s to match our Southern theme.

Tossing the Bouquet: I always loved bouquet tosses at weddings, but I never liked that only one person ended up with it. I know the feeling, the anticipation of wanting to catch that bouquet, thinking, “Just maybe if I can  jump a bit more to the left this time, maybe I’ll catch it” and also thinking of how special I would feel if I did catch it.  Why shouldn’t everyone feel this special? Then I thought, maybe everyone COULD catch it. Instead of having one bouquet, I decided to cut the band keeping them all bound, and have about 20 different flowers fly into the sky when I did the big throw. When the bouquet flew into the air, everyone was so surprised! I was so happy with my little surprise for all the lovely single ladies!

Approximate planning time: engaged for a year, started planning in July/August.–about 8 months / # of Guests: 50 /  Rehearsal Party: At our wedding venue the night before.  It was the first time the whole wedding party saw the venue, they absolutely loved it!  Hair: Marrisa Bryant, the braid is an Irish tradition on wedding day / Makeup: Brennan Sarver / Wedding Cake: Brittany Childers / Bride’s Jewelry: Necklace & earrings were from mother; Bracelet was a gift from Simon and Kay (in laws) /Caterer: Quantum/  Wedding Gown: from Kleinfeld in NYC (Designer: Maggie Sottero: Haute Couture / Bridesmaid’s Dresses: David’s Bridal/ Groom / Groomsmen Attire: Simons Formal / Officiant: Reverend Daryl Brown /  Guest Accommodations: De Soto Savannah & The Bohemian Hotel Savannah:  After our wedding, we celebrated and stayed in a suite at the Bohemian Hotel. We had a beautiful view of downtown Savannah and River Street / Transportation:  That evening we took  Matthew’s jeep to the hotel, his father tied the traditional cans and shoes to our jeep! So Fun!
