It was another beautiful morning here in Savannah. For this engagement session, I met Meaghan and Chris on Jones Street. August can be so hot and humid here. It was definitely warm, but we were so lucky that there was a nice breeze which made it another amazing day for portraits! We spent the entire morning just walking around, taking photos and enjoying Jones Street. The street is in the heart of Savannah’s historic district and is filled charming homes, lush city gardens and boutiques. It was great to spend time getting to know Meaghan and Chris and to photo journal their trip to Savannah and the beginning of their life together. They had so much fun exploring the area, taking in the scenery and mostly just spending time together and being in love. I’m so excited for them and know they are going to have so much fun planning their wedding! Congratulations!!!
Meaghan is originally from a suburb of Charlotte, NC but grew up in Bucks County, PA. Chris is a Raleigh native. Growing up, I was always counting down the days until I could get back to the south, and I ended up at Clemson for college. Chris attended UNC Charlotte, and we crossed paths during my freshman and his junior year of college. He’s an engineer, and I have a degree in Equine Business. After Chris graduated and moved to St. Louis for his job, we were long distance for almost 2 years while I finished school and had several internships in Dallas. It was hard, but so worth it! He proposed in the most incredible, special way this past June at a Thoroughbred horse farm in Kentucky. We celebrated with my family at Churchill Downs the next day! In his own words, he wanted to surround me with my first love when he asked to be my second. We’ll call it a tie!
We enjoy exploring River Street and City Market in Savannah. We never pass up the peach sangria from the Cafe and Byrd’s cookies always find their way back home! Chris’s favorite is the Georgia peach, but I love the benne wafers and red velvet. A friend recently introduced us to Rocks on the Roof, a fun rooftop bar in the Bohemian Hotel with amazing views of the harbor. In Hilton Head, we’re pretty much beach bums and stay by the water for the most part. Coligny Plaza and Harbour Town are fun for shopping and have great ice cream! We also love the Skull Creek Boathouse for dinner. Anything outside with live music and delicious seafood is perfect for us!
For our outfits, we just wanted to feel like ourselves, as if we were going to any party. We would totally wear something like that on a regular basis. And, of course, it had to be cool enough for humid August weather. In my opinion, my seersucker dress was the perfect choice because it’s so light and breathable. As far as colors, we wanted to coordinate but not match too extensively. My dress had blue and pink in it, so I just told Chris to pick a shirt in one of those colors! Chris wore Southern Tide and Sperrys. My dress was from Lilly Pulitzer, and my shoes were from DSW. They’re my favorites! My amazing earrings were a gift from my mom.
We LOVE the Lowcountry! This was our second time visiting Savannah and Hilton Head together, but my family has been many times over the years. We took a day trip to Savannah with my sister last year, so when my family decided to come back to the beach at Hilton Head this summer, we figured it was the perfect spot for engagement photos! For us, there’s nothing more perfect and comforting than the history, Southern hospitality, and beauty of the area.
