Victoria & Will’s Wedding at The Mackey House of Savannah

We met Victoria and Will for their wedding at The Mackey House. We began with getting ready photos, then took wedding party photos around the property. It began to rain as guests were arriving for the ceremony so we moved indoors for additional photos.  The couple had not planned to see each other until the ceremony and they stuck to their original plan and waited for the storm to clear. (Amazing!) Everyone was incredibly supportive of their decision and full of optimism that the ceremony would be outdoors as planned. As soon as the rain ended, the sun emerged and they had their wedding ceremony. One neat aspect of the couple’s wedding ceremony was that Victoria’s family brought sand from Chile and then the couple combined it with sand from Will’s family farm in Georgia. Victoria and Will are an awesome couple and they have a special way of making life so fun for everyone around them. Their wedding was a fantastic celebration for everyone involved!  They’re getting ready to relocate to London and we are so excited for them to begin their new adventure!

About Us: Will and I met at the University of Georgia while both pledging for AKPsi Sorority/Fraternity during the Spring of 2010. It was not until one of our final pledging events that we got to know each other better.  I’m originally from Chile, but grew up here in the South, and Will was born in Tennessee but grew up here in Georgia as well. Oddly enough, the high schools we attended were very big rivalries! Who knows, maybe our paths crossed during a football game or the local hangout at the movies! I’m currently a project manager at a market research firm, PVR Research, in Atlanta, and Will is a business analyst for a software company, ClickFox. We were originally going to move to Colorado soon after getting married, but a curveball has been thrown at us; we are now moving to London! We are both very excited and in awe to start our new married life in a different country.

What made you select The Mackey House as your Ceremony and Reception location? Will proposed on my birthday and that weekend we headed to Athens, GA to celebrate with friends. On the ride down, I began to Google locations in Savannah; I came across the Mackey House and fell in love with the venue.  Many of our friends and family were worried that we had selected a venue without seeing it, but it turned out pretty darn well!

Where did you get the inspiration/ideas for the details? Inspiration came from my crazy ideas as well as my best friend who texted me a thousand ideas as soon as I told her I was getting married. I wanted a fun and colorful wedding, and thought a fun, yet a classy carnival theme would be perfect. Our wedding cake was a 3-tier ice cream cake from Cold Stone Creamery, and in addition I had ice cream cupcakes and sandwiches for the guests. Of course Pinterest and Instagram helped too!

Advice for other couples who are in the process of planning their wedding? We used  theknot.com to keep up with RSVP and they have a great wedding checklist too! We planned our wedding within 4 months and I would recommend that to anyone – get the planning over with as fast as possible! I can’t imagine planning for the entiree year – seems so long!   Many of our accessories came from Etsy.com— This is your best friend for everything! I bought almost anything and everything from Etsy including cake toppers, garter belt, monogrammed shirts for my bridesmaids, flower girl basket, and much more! We opted to use the trolley cars to transport our guests to and from the Mackey House. So much fun! We recommend using wedding trolleys to anyone who gets married in Savannah and had our rehearsal party on the Savannah River Queen Boat– best time ever!

Honeymoon: We had the most amazing time ever in Costa Rica! We opted to stay away from resorts, because we wanted to venture out on our own.
